Examensarbete i sexologi 30 högskolepoäng. Degree project in sexology 30 högskolepoäng. Malmö University: Faculty of Health and Society, Department of Social Work, 2021. Abstract The aim of the study was to shed light on experiences of using a sex doll, as they appeared in a Swedish internet forum. The debate that is taking place in the media about sex dolls tends to revive polarized standpoints which surround gender, sexuality, pornography and commercialism. At the same time, sex dolls are not a new phenomenon since the use goes a long way back in history and erotic images for sexual purpose are incorporated into the art and mythology. However, research that focuses on the users of sex dolls is lacking. The empirical material is based on posts from a Swedish internet forum, where the authors of the posts discussed the topic of sex dolls with each other. To gain a deeper understanding of the use of sex dolls, a hermeneutic approach was used. The material was then analyzed with queer phenomenological theory. The results show that there are several, widely different experiences and motives of persons using sex dolls. A part of the use is linked to difficulties with relationships and sex dolls are in these cases used to substitute relationships. Experiences of poor relationships were described, as well as experiences of involuntary being single. The study also confirms previous research regarding the use of sex dolls for purposes other than intercourse. A kind of care-taking of the sex doll was described in terms of handling, hygiene and making the doll pretty and attractive to the eye. The stigma and taboo surrounding the use of sex dolls is also addressed and discussed in the forum. Finally, there is a discussion about a story of a sex doll being a story about lust and desires but also about the norms and life paths which surround relationships and sexuality.

Second wave feminism made great inroads into legislation, but widespread cultural change remained elusive— particularly in regards to female sexuality. This dissertation is a study of representations of female sexuality in post-growth neoliberal Japan. Based on more than two years of fieldwork conducted in the Tokyo area and discourse analysis of various media I question why feminist conceptualizations of women’s right to pleasure have failed to make inroads in a Japan that clings to a pronatalist, pro-growth ideology as the result of growing anxiety over the country’s economy and future. I examine women’s magazine anan, alternative sex education providers, and the growing number of female-friendly pleasure product companies who are working to change perceptions of female sexuality and contemplate whether their work can be considered feminist. This sector—an example of what Andi Zeisler (2016) has termed “marketplace feminism” may be thoroughly commercialized, yet it also offers a space in which women may explore discourses of sex and pleasure that were not previously available. In Chapter 1, I examine the social conditions of contemporary Japan that deny female pleasure and explain how second wave feminism failed to address desire.

Abstract In order to describe pornography’s harms in the twenty-first century, an age of un- precedented access to Internet technology, some advocates—including activists, re- ligious leaders, politicians, and scientists—use a medical/scientific framework to claim that pornography is biologically addictive. This article examines public dis- course on “pornography addiction” to extend theories of sociology of science and sociology of sexualities about scientific knowledge and the biomedicalization of sex and sexuality. Using content analysis of over 600 documents, including scientific studies, newspaper articles, and state government resolutions, we show how ref- erences to pornography as addictive emerged in the twenty-first century and grew most substantially in the last decade.

  • Usos De Sex Toys: a Circulação Erótica Entre Objetos E Pessoas

Some of us, she laments, “may not ever be able to return there.” Note the temporality of her “there.” According to Lesperance, we have “bioaccumulated the trauma that was and wasn’t ours” such that the body itself is like a prison, a kind of carceral architecture that not only restricts the ontological becomings that indigeneity as such can launch, but also points to renderings of ‘the body’ – a body to be dispossessed of sovereignty, studied, experimented with, abused, raped, incarcerated, and sometimes even murdered – is not always ours to inhabit. Lesperance gets at a uniQuely colonial affect, one whose expressivities almost escape language’s representational form – that is, a state of non-being where the fact-ness of the body itself apportions specific forms of structural withering in the battlefields of settler states.

The Organ of Tactility: Fantasy, Image and Male Masturbation Jaco J. Hamman1 Abstract This article explores the interplay of fantasy and image in male solitary masturbation in the virtual age. Online pornography drastically changed the intimate relationship between the hand and the penis. The case of a seventeen-year-old boy and his excessive use of Internet pornography is used to highlight pornography’s impact on a person’s well-being and neurology. A brief exploration of three histories of masturbation shows how discussion of masturbation often serves political agendas and the central role of sexual fantasy in the practice. Sexual fantasy is explored through the research of British psychoanalyst Brett Kahr. To examine the prevalence of the eye in pornography, philosopher Michael Taussig’s concept of “the eye as the organ of tactility” is discussed. The essay concludes by offering a framework to discern whether masturbating to images might be disordered or not. Fantasy, as nonvisual sexual arousal, with mindfulness can relieve a person from the tyranny of the eye and compulsive masturbation. However, female masturbation is symbolically powerful because it signifies a female sexuality that is not dependent on male presence. This thesis seeks to explore depictions of female masturbation, specifically looking at how female characters who engage in autoeroticism are stigmatized, controlled or silenced. This thesis will also explore the minority of depictions that show the act as liberating in films like Pleasantville (1998) and Better than Chocolate (1999). iv DOING IT FOR THEMSELVES: SEXUAL SUBJECTIVITY IN CINEMATIC DEPICTIONS OF FEMALE AUTOEROTICISM INTRODUCTION .......................................................................................................... 1 The History
