  • SATURDAY 31St OCTOBER Buildbase FA Trophy Rushall Olympic (A)
Good evening and a very warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters of Rushall Olympic, we do hope you enjoy your short stay with us before having a safe journey home. Rushall have made a solid start to this season’s campaign suffering only one defeat in their first 7 league games. A competitive club that are always in and around the playoffs, they will be looking to continue that form. Managed by former Barwell players, Liam Macdonald and Nick Green, they will have done their homework on us, so as ever we will be expecting a tough encounter. A well run club from top to bottom and in their second year with an artificial pitch the club is a good role model for non-league football. Both clubs know that this encounter between us will take place again at Rushall on Saturday in the Buildbase FA Trophy, it’s ironic how these consecutive fixtures seem to happen. We finally got our first win against Nuneaton Borough, which has brought a lot of relief to all connected with the club. I’m sure that will bring a lot of confidence, let’s hope we can kick on from here and get back into the mix on the league front. Finally for tonight, I’m pleased to announce that Jason Ashby owner of UK Flooring Direct has agreed to extend his sponsorship for a further 3 years with the club. He has also made a five figure donation to our fundraising effort for our 3G pitch project. If you read this Jason, all of us at Barwell thank you for your commitment once again and wish you, your family and your business all the best for the future.

The Talk of the Town Volume #15, Saturday 23rd November Tickets: £6 Adults, £3 Concessions, £1 Under 16s vs Harefield United Bell Close, LU7 1RX SSML Premier Division People at the Club First Team Managers: Joe Sweeney and Paul Copson. Physio Team: John Rutherford and Lorraine Smith. Chairman: Alan Penman Vice Chairman: Steve Harris Director of Football: Sean Downey Secretary: Roy Parker Treasurer: Steve Harris Match Photos: Andrew Parker Reports, Programmes, Kitman, Media: Kieran Carvell Hall Hire: Pauline Parker Groundsman: Bruce Warner A word from the Press Box Welcome to Bell Close, for this afternoon's SSML Premier Division game against Harefield United. A warm welcome to our visitors. We have already faced up against Harefield this season, a 3-1 defeat at Preston Park, which saw both teams reduced to 10 men and ourselves going down to 9 at one point. This afternoon, we hope for better, with ourselves being unbeaten in 7 in the league and having lost just once in 12 games (all comps). On Tuesday, we played out a 2-2 draw against Eynesbury Rovers. Another point gained as we climb to 11th in the league, despite us being 2-0 up courtesy of a Danny Webb brace. What a season that man is having. Bleacher Report and ESPN shared his goal against Tring on their social media accounts. A massive feet for us, with the total view count of that goal at around 500,000. For context, that is 5 and a half Wembley Stadium's. Crazy numbers. Coming up this week, we travel to Shefford & Campton on Tuesday in the league challenge trophy.

With a completely new management structure for all of the senior teams in place since the season ended suddenly in March, we embark on a new era and direction for the club. Darren and Chris have been a breath of fresh air with their clear ambition to develop young players. The oldest player in the starting line up v. Rushall on Saturday was just 24 years old, which clearly shows the direction they intend for the club to move in the coming seasons. The Reserves, under Ryan Honeyman and George Club Officials: Dean, will continue to provide a route for the U18 players to progress, but have also retained players who are under 22, but have experience of playing Step 6 football. I have personally relinquished the reins for the A team, having achieved the goal of establishing that team last season, and we are very pleased to have Stuart Reavell and Anthony Brooks at the helm this season. Stuart and Anthony will assist Matt Morling with the Under 18s this season, which provides continuity between the different teams. I would like to record my thanks to Roger Hitchman, who was my Assistant Manager for the A team last season, for the tremendous hard work and dedication he brought to the role.
