Welcome back to our 2021 Visitor Guide. As we know 2020 was struck by a pandemic that heightened uncertainty throughout the world, it has meant that we have not been able to welcome as many visitors to Doncaster as we would have liked to and it has generally resulted in us all having to adapt to a new way of living. The history of the town dates back as far as 71AD when it was founded by the Romans. Today, traces of the town’s rich history can still be seen in and around the town. Doncaster is home to a number of historical monuments and sites that are well worth a visit. It is home to the Mansion House which is only one of three in the country and it is truly a vision of beauty. The afternoon tea days and open days are great opportunities to explore the inside of the stunning building. If you are more of an outdoor type, then a visit to our beautiful stately homes and gardens, Brodsworth Hall and Gardens and Cusworth Hall are a must. They both make for perfect family days out. Make sure you squeeze in time for a visit to one of Doncaster’s most recognisable buildings, Doncaster Minster. The building runs weekly open days so you can have a look around and appreciate its grandeur. You can learn a lot about the building’s fascinating history from the passionate volunteers. The Normans built fine castles, two of which survive in Doncaster - Conisbrough and Tickhill. Conisbrough Castle is open to visitors all year round, so do make sure you pay it a visit whereas Tickhill Castle is open one day a year. We can’t talk about Doncaster’s history and not mention the St Leger, the World’s oldest classic horse race which runs annually in September. A real highlight of the year, which sees thousands of visitors flood toDoncaster Racecourse from all over the country. A visit to Doncaster would be incomplete without a visit to Doncaster Markets. The market which dates back over 2000 years is one of the finest traditional markets in the north and has a number of highlights including the International Food Hall, Fish Market, Corn Exchange and the Wool Market where you can eat, be entertained and buy clothing, unique gifts, arts and crafts. 6 visitdoncaster.com A Rich Seam This year, 2021, Doncaster saw the completion of an exciting and ambitious project to create an iconic piece of art to commemorate Doncaster’s Credit: Ben Harrison Photography proud mining heritage right in the very heart of the town centre. Keep your eyes peeled for the statue which can be found at the bottom of Printing Office Street. Due to the uncertain climate that we find ourselves in, please be aware that all activities/buildings are subject to change/closure at any time. Please check with the venue before setting off on your journey that activities are still going ahead as planned. 7 #RediscoverDoncaster Food Glorious Food. • Price Discrimination Strategy of Low-Cost Airlines
1 Jelena Petrović JEL: D4, L11, C53. 2 Nikola Petrović DOI: 10.5937/industrija43-6578 UDC: 658.8.031:656.7 Original Scientific Paper Price Discrimination Strategy of Low-Cost Airlines Article history: Received: 8 November 2014 Sent for revision:20 November 2014 Received in revised form:18 February 2015 Accepted: 16 March 2015 Available online:1 April 2015 Abstract: The main objective of this research was to determine whether the prices of airline tickets increase monotonically over time. The authors analyzed the market share of low-cost airlines during the period after the Serbian air transport deregulation of the lines connecting Belgrade to other worldwide destinations. In the observed period, Wizz Air achieved the highest increase in market share. This airline held a monopoly over all lines except the Belgrade-Rome line in the observed period. Based on the theorem on monotonic function, Spearman`s coefficient, and data on Wizz Air’s airfare changes for the Belgrade-Rome line, the results indicate a correlation between the time of ticket purchase and its price, but the prices of low-cost airline tickets do not monotonically increase over time. Keywords: low-cost airlines, price, price discrimination, monotonicity.
