WWW...HARDROCKHIDEOUT...COM American Speedway - Ship of Fools (Release Year - 2008) If Lemmy Kilmeister from Motorhead sang for AC/DC , it would have to sound some like Philadelphia’s, American Speedway . Singer Michael Thursby Speedway has the same style of hard edged course vocals as Lemmy. The one difference I have found on this rocking set of tunes, is that punk vibe that they give off. American Speedway seems to have one foot in hard rock, and the other in the punk world. Either way, it seems to work for them. Speedway’s coarse voice may not be for everyone, but if you like Motorhead , chances are you will probably like American Speedway as well. Ship of Fools is a short set (less than 30 minutes in length) of high energy, bar room rock. It isn’t original, but it definitely rocks. This is the kind of music, that no matter how hard you resist you will find yourself tapping your foot, and ready to crack open a cold one. Brown, Advisor Between 1984 and 1991, heavy metal became one of the most publicly popular and commercially successful rock music subgenres. The focus of this dissertation is to explore the following research questions: How did the subculture of heavy metal music between 1984 and 1991 evolve and what meanings can be derived from this ongoing process? How did the contextual circumstances surrounding heavy metal music during this period impact the performative choices exhibited by artists, and from a position of retrospection, what lasting significance does this particular era of heavy metal merit today? A textual analysis of metal- related materials fostered the development of themes relating to the selective choices made and performances enacted by metal artists. These themes were then considered in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and age constructions as well as the ongoing negotiations of the metal artist within multiple performative realms. Occurring at the juncture of art and commerce, heavy metal music is a purposeful construction. Metal musicians made performative choices for serving particular aims, be it fame, wealth, or art. These same individuals worked within a greater system of influence. Metal bands were the contracted employees of record labels whose own corporate aims needed to be recognized.

A corpus study shows that a particular riff-based version of compound AABA, with a specific style of buildup intro (Aas 2015) and other characteristic features, is normative in mainstream styles of the metal genre. Within this norm, individual artists have their own strategies (Meyer 1989) for manifesting compound AABA form. These strategies afford stylistic distinctions between bands, so that differences in form can be said to signify aesthetic posing or social positioning—a different kind of signification than the programmatic or semantic communication that has been the focus of most existing music theory research in areas like topic theory or musical semiotics. This article concludes with an exploration of how these different formal strategies embody different qualities of physical movement or feelings of motion, arguing that in making stylistic distinctions and identifying with a particular subgenre or style, we imagine that these distinct ways of moving correlate with (sub)genre rhetoric and the physical stances of imagined communities of fans (Anderson 1983, Hill 2016).     Band: Project Arcadia (BG) Genre: Heavy Metal / Power Metal Label: Nightmare Records Album Titel: A Time Of Changes Spielzeit: 45:53 VÖ: 09.09.2014 Project Arcadia haben ihr erstes Album "From The Desert Of Desire" vor fünf Jahren veröffentlicht. Seither hat sich einiges bei den Bulgaren verändert. Besetzungswechsel gab es an einer Gitarre und den Drums. Mit dem schwedischen, derzeit in den USA lebenden, Sänger Urban Breed (ex-Tad Morose, ex-Bloodbound, Trail Of Murder) wurde auch der Posten am Mikrophon neu besetzt. Das neue Album beinhaltet sauber auf den Punkt gespielten Heavy Metal, welcher leidenschaftlich und mit viel Melodie dargeboten wird. Satte, authentisch klingende Drums und ein stets präsenter, aber nicht zu aufdringlicher Bass, sorgen für eine sichere Rhythmus Sektion. Mal schnelle Double Bass Figuren, mal ein stampfend, mit viel Power gespieltes Schlagzeug, hin und wieder aber auch mal zurückhaltend, dem jeweiligen Themen der Songs angemessen bedienend. Schön zu hören in der Ballade "I Am Alive" oder dem gefühlvollem "The Ungrateful Child". Frische knackige Riffs, klasse Solis, die in ihrer Länge genau dosiert sind, geben jedem Song seinen ganz eigenen Charakter. Schöne einprägsame Refrains, prägnante Melodien und kurze Bridges, die prima arrangiert sind, ohne dabei den Spielfluss aus den Augen zu verlieren. Zum Glück wurde hier auf unnötig lange Zockerei verzichtet. Hier muss man sich nichts mehr beweisen und man scheint zu wissen was man kann. Dass die Herren ihre Hausaufgaben gemacht haben, steht außer Frage. Urban Breed liefert einen Gesang, der viel Volumen in sich trägt, gleichzeitig aber auch sehr gefühlvoll sein kann und auch in höheren Tonlagen besteht.
