On 118 tree-lined acres, Albright is a place that connects people in an open, down-to-earth, collaborative community. With 1,650 undergraduate students, Albright’s small size ensures a 13:1 student/faculty ratio, close student/faculty relationships and an emphasis on the whole individual. Collaboration both in and outside of the classroom means students have extraordinary opportunities to work with, communicate with, and learn -- not only from faculty but many others with different perspectives and experiences. At Albright, students have the ability to connect fields of study to create an individualized education. Today’s complex world demands the special perspective gained from an education that crosses boundaries to link knowledge, ideas, people and possibilities. Flexible thinkers, open to new ideas and able to commu- nicate are in demand in the job market. Connecting your interests and fields of learning can lead to new career possibilities. At Albright, half of all students opt for combined or interdisciplinary major -- and still graduate in four years. Last year, students created more than 200 different combinations of majors - from art/biology to psychology/business and sociology/Latin American studies. But whether you select a single major or combine fields of study, you will find that Albright faculty works closely with every student to create an individualized education that reflects individual talents, interests and career goals. Albright offers more than 50 areas of study, a broad range of interdisciplinary programs including digital media, information systems, optics, Latin American studies, psychobiology, biochemistry, and environmental studies, and combined concentrations such as music/business for those interested in careers in the music industry. Albright’s long tradition of excellence in the natural sciences and pre-professional programs continues to prepare graduates for medical, dental, and veterinary school. Undecided about a major? The unique Alpha Program is a structured program that allows students to explore different fields of interest and assess interests and talents before selecting a major (or majors.) Alpha provides academic guidance, activities, evens, peer support, career counseling and coursework in a wide variety of disciplines to help students make an informed choice when the time comes. Shirk Stadium Shirk Stadium, dedicated in 1925 and home to the Albright Lions for over 80 years, underwent major renovations in 2005, turning it into one of the top Division III football stadiums in the nation. The original home grandstand, built nearly a century ago, was replaced with a new building that seats 3,000 spectators while providing locker rooms, train- ing facilities, and a laundry room for the Lion football, men’s and women’s soccer, and field hockey teams. A state-of-the-art press box sits atop the home grandstand, giving both visiting media and VIP’s a first-class place to watch the game. The natural-grass playing surface was replaced with A-tuf, an artifical turf surface that will allow multi-sport play in the new stadium. The stadium also features top of the line lighting that will allow for night games to be played throughout the year. A new grandstand on the visitors’ side seats 2,000 spectators, giving Shirk Stadium a total seating capacity of 5,000. Standing room for spectators is also available at either end zone. A new main entrance, concession stands, and restroom areas sit at the south end of the stadium. ALBRIGHTATHLETICS.COM 4 Season Preview The 2010 Albright men’s soccer season will truly mark a new chapter in the program’s history. With a talented group of freshmen as well as a solid group of returners, Albright should truly shake things up in Chris Tadley the conference standings this fall. Head coach Pat Stanco, now in his sixth season, has seen a tremen- dous difference in the playing abilities of both the newcomers and the veterans. This year the Lions will look to sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Barr to be the foundation in the backfield. A Commonwealth Conference goalkeeper of the week, Barr had a tremendous freshman season that was highlighted by 35 saves in 13 games played. Also in goal this fall will be junior Billy Howard and sopho- more Steve Pyle.
