Two wins in September lifted Norway into the automatic qualifying places in UEFA EURO 2016 Group H and they will confirm their participation at the final tournament in France if they defeat Malta and Croatia fail to overcome Bulgaria. • Norway are currently second in the section, two points clear of Croatia. They are guaranteed at least a play-off spot – via third position – even if they fail to win both their remaining games. Croatia have a superior head-to-head record in the event that the two sides finish level on points. Section leaders Italy hold a two-point cushion over the Nordic country. • Malta can no longer qualify for the finals. Previous meetings • Joshua King set up the first and scored the other two as Norway won 3-0 in Malta in the teams' Group H encounter last October. • Norway's record in nine matches against Malta is W7 D2 L0 (W3 D0 L0 at home). They have never conceded a goal at home to Malta, and have come out on top in all five previous competitive fixtures against the Mediterranean nation. • Malta have twice held Norway to 1-1 draws – at the old Empire Stadium in Gzira on 5 November 1961 and at National Stadium Ta' Qali on 7 February 1990. However, they are now on a six-game losing streak against the Scandinavians. Form guide • Norway have not conceded a goal in their last three Group H outings (W2 D1), and are unbeaten in their last three competitive home matches (also W2 D1). • Malta are without a win in 12 competitive fixtures (D2 L10) since a 1-0 FIFA World Cup qualifying victory in on 7 June 2013. Disciplinary • Vegard Forren, Tom Høgli, Håvard Nordtveit and Alexander Søderlund will incur a suspension with their next yellow cards. • Paul Fenech is available after a one-match ban; Andrei Agius, and Alfred Effiong will incur a suspension with their next yellow cards. Trivia and links • Malta striker Michael Mifsud knows Norway well, having played for Lillestrøm SK from 2004–07. • Norway have not reached a major final tournament since UEFA EURO 2000. • Norway have won all six games against Malta in UEFA's youth and men's age-limit tournaments. • The four matches between Norwegian and Maltese sides in UEFA club competitions have produced three Norwegian victories and a 1-1 draw, Floriana FC holding Stabæk Fotball in a 2000 UEFA Intertoto Cup first-round duel, before losing the return leg 2-0.

5 Norway - Malta Saturday 10 October 2015 - 18.00CET (18.00 local time) Match press kit Ullevaal Stadion, Oslo Head coach Per-Mathias Høgmo Date of birth: 1 December 1959 Nationality: Norwegian Playing career: Gratangen IL, FK Mjølner, Tromsø IL (twice), IFK Norrköping Coaching career: Gratangen IL, Tromsalden UIL, Tromsø IL (three times), Fossum IF, Moss FK, Norway (women), Norway Under-21, Rosenborg BK, Djurgårdens IF, Norway • An industrious winger, Høgmo's playing career peaked with a 1986 Norwegian Cup success with Tromsø; he then turned to coaching, leading local clubs and helping out with Norway's national youth teams. • Coached Norway's women's side from 1997, winning Olympic gold in 2000, before being asked to spearhead the men's Under-21 squad, a position he left in 2003. • Following a second spell in charge of Tromsø, Høgmo worked as a television pundit. A subsequent return to club football with Rosenborg in 2005 was ill-fated: he quit the next year, having been signed off with health problems. • Returned to coaching, again with Tromsø, in 2008, securing some solid league finishes and two attempts at UEFA Europa League qualifying before heading abroad for the first time in his career to take the reins at Swedish outfit Djurgården in 2013. • Appointed Norway coach in September 2013 after Egil Olsen agreed to step down, penning a four-year contract. Pietro Ghedin Date of birth: 21 November 1952 Nationality: Italian Playing career: ACF Fiorentina, SS Lazio, AC Venezia, Calcio Catania, Pescara Calcio, AC Pistoiese, AC Siena Coaching career: Italy Under-18, Malta U21, Malta (twice), Italy (assistant), Italy women • Defender Ghedin played in Serie A with Fiorentina and Lazio, joining the latter immediately after the capital side had won their first-ever Scudetto in 1974 and remaining at the Stadio Olimpico until 1981. He played out his career in the lower divisions. • Ghedin became an Italian Football Federation (FIGC) coach in 1987, leading the country's U18s and becoming senior national team scout ahead of the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy. • He served as the Azzurri goalkeeping coach for the Olympic Games of 1992 and 1996. Additionally, while still under contract with the FIGC, he also coached the Malta national side at both U21 and senior level between 1992 and 1995. • Appointed assistant to Italy coach Cesare Maldini during the 1998 World Cup, Ghedin remained in that role under Dino Zoff at UEFA EURO 2000 and Giovanni Trapattoni at the 2002 World Cup. • Ghedin became Italy's senior women's coach in 2005, guiding them to the UEFA Women's EURO 2009 quarter- finals, before leaving in 2012 to return to the Malta helm.

EURO finals: The UEFA European Championship was a four-team event in 1960, 1964, 1968, 1972 and 1976 (when the preliminary round and quarter-finals were considered part of qualifying).

From 1980 it was expanded to an eight-team finals and remained in that format in 1984, 1988 and 1992 until 1996, when the 16-team format was adopted. UEFA EURO 2016 was the first tournament to be played as a 24-team finals.

Records of inactive countries A number of UEFA associations have been affected by dissolution or splits of member associations. For statistical purposes, the records of these inactive countries have been allocated elsewhere: therefore, all Soviet Union matches are awarded to Russia; all West Germany – but not East Germany – matches are awarded to Germany; all Yugoslavia and Serbia & Montenegro matches are awarded to Serbia; all Czechoslovakia matches are allocated to both the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Abandoned/forfeited matches For statisical purposes, when a match has been started and then abandoned but later forfeited, the result on the pitch at the time of abandonment is counted. Matches that never started and were either cancelled or forfeited are not included in the overall statistics.
