[email protected] Abstract Substantial progress has been made on understanding several aspects of Large Igneous Provinces (LIPs) since their first formal categorization by Coffin & Eldholm (1994), and provides an opportunity to add to and revise the LIP database, identify the key characteristics that distinguish LIP events from other melting events of the upper mantle, and to reassess and revise how we define LIP.
