LITTERAE DECRETALES De peracta Canonizatione aequipollenti beati Iosephi De Anchieta, S.I. FRANCISCUS EPISCOPUS SERVUS SERVORUM DEI AD PERPETUAM REI MEMORIAM « Euntes ergo docete omnes gentes, baptizantes eos in nomine Patris et Filii et Spiritus Sancti, docentes eos servare omnia, quaecumque mandavi vobis » (Mt 28, 19-20). « Missioni » fidelis ac Spiritui Sancto obnoxius, beatus Iosephus De An- chieta, Societatis Iesu sodalis, totum se Domino dicavit, cum in Brasilia Evangelium nuntiaret. In oppido San Cristobal de La Laguna Ninguariae apud Insulas Fortunatas die XIX mensis Martii anno MDXXXIV natus est. Studiorum curricula apud Universitatem Conimbrigensem absolvere coepit, ubi Societatem Iesu novit. Sancti Ignatii spiritalitate permotus, die I mensis Maii anno MDLI illius Societatis novitiatum est ingressus. Propter infirmam valetudinem desideriumque missionariae vitae, Soteropolim Brasiliae missus est, quod tunc temporis illius Nationis erat caput. Novitius patrem Pro- vincialem, Patrem Emmanuelem da Nóbrega, ad missionem Piratiningae comitatus est, ubi postea Collegium Sancti Pauli Piratiningae conditum est, quae incunabula fuerunt hodiernae magnae urbis Sancti Pauli in Brasilia, 1096 Acta Apostolicae Sedis – Commentarium Officiale cuius unus ex conditoribus habetur Iosephus de Anchieta. Ipse primum grammaticam colonorum Lusitanorum necnon indigenarum, Tupí appella- torum, filios docere coepit, quorum linguam brevi tempore didicit. Postquam Sanctum Paulum repetivit, tres proximos annos corporis spiritusque indigenarum curae impertivit, mortifero morbo variolae correptorum. Bis in anno sodales eorumque opera invisit, scilicet collegia, scholas, rura, calamorum sacchareorum sata, officinas aëra- rias. Anno MDLXXXV in oppido Guaraparí templum condidit Sacri Cordis Iesu, saeculo ante quam sancta Margarita Alacoque Paredii Mona- chorum celebratas illas haberet visiones. Die XXII mensis Iunii anno MCMLXXX eum in Beatorum catologum rettulit beatus Ioannes Pau- lus II. Nos Ipsi, audito Venerabili Fratre Nostro Angelo S.R.E. Datum Romae apud S. • Santa Messa E Canonizzazione Dei Beati

  • Saint Vincenzo Grossi
Saint Vincenzo Grossi SAINT OF THE DAY 07-11-2020 This priest became a saint by carrying out his ministry in faithfulness to God, whom he served in his daily life. He spent hours in the confessional, educating consciences in the Christian virtues and nourished himself with prayer, penance and contemplation of the Blessed Sacrament. Parish priest for 44 years, the life of St Vincenzo Grossi (1845-1917) is extraordinary for its ordinariness and demonstrates once again that the ways of holiness, in single minded obedience to God, are many. In this sense, in beatifying him, Paul VI indicated him as “a serene and persuasive example for priests directly involved in the care of souls” because in him they can find “a new model of sanctification and zeal”. The penultimate of ten children, he was born into a family of millers. Already after his First Communion he expressed to his parents his desire to become a priest, following the example of his brother Giuseppe. Until the age of 19 he stayed with his parents to help them with their work. In 1873, four years after his priestly ordination, he had his first job as parish priest in a hamlet of his native town, Pizzighettone (province of Cremona), where a “wretched predecessor” had worked, according to the definition given by the bishop. With patience and sacrifice, the saint succeeded in bringing many souls closer to God, transforming the village into a “little convent”, as some confreres called it. He was very attentive to the education of the youth, also because he was aware of the social and moral fragility in which many of them were growing up.

It is a reciprocal listening in which each one has something to learn.” Pope Francis, members of the Synod of When Cynthia Kanko, left, needed a friend to help her through the challenges of a cancer diagnosis, she unexpectedly found one in a stranger, Bishops on the family, theologians and other Georgia Frey. • The Anxiety of Discovery: the Italian Interest in Native American Studies (*)
FEDORA GIORDANO The Anxiety of Discovery: The Italian Interest in Native American Studies (*) i remember that in websters dictionary the word genoa is just above genocide Lance Henson In the meetings of the American Indian Workshop,1 a map of the various aspects of a specifically European vision of Indians has been tentatively drawn. An exemplary answer to the many questions raised is this statement made by Christian F. Feest: A simple explanation of the special relationship between Europeans and the Native populations of North America is that no-such relationship exists. Under close scrutiny it becomes apparent that all that interested and still interests Europeans is "Indians," a wholly fictional population inhabiting the Old World mind rather than the New World land. (609) The subject of this enquiry is the border, the "in-between" space where cultures meet (Bhaba), and the history of the border through which Native Americans, as objects of a specifically Italian découverte de l'Autre, have abandoned the liminal status of invented Indians to enter the reality of a dialogical discourse. A map of Italian publications in Native American studies (Giordano 1987, 1989, 1990) has revealed cycles of epiphanic first discoveries and of total eclypses. It is no wonder that the controversial quincentenary of the discovery of America was anticipated by events such as "Rediscovering Native American Peoples," a photographic exhibit held in Genoa in 1989; "Rediscovering America," a photographic exhibit and a workshop attended by Louise Erdrich, Michael Dorris, Joe Sando, and Ted Jojola, 82 Giordano held in Treviso in 1991; and "Discovering American Indians," featuring the American Indian Dance Theatre, Robert Mirabal and Mud Ponies in concert, and Jake Swamp, David Archambault, John Pretty on Top, and Cindy Kenny-Gilday in Rome in July 1992.
