February, 2014

Greetings:

With 18 sister cities throughout the world, Atlanta’s international footprint keeps growing. Sister city partnerships indeed represent an incredible tool to promote peace and prosperity through cultural, educa- tional, humanitarian and economic development exchanges.

The friendships that Atlanta shares with these 18 cities worldwide has been particularly highlighted in 2013. I personally visited two of our sister cities while traveling to Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Montego Bay. On these occasions, I experienced first hand the driving force of which these powerful partnerships are capable.

Once again, 2014 will put our sister cities relations at the forefront of the city’s international agenda as I will be leading two trade missions to Rio de Janeiro and Lagos. These trips present a great opening to introduce Atlanta-based companies to these important markets while connecting our colleagues and uni- versities with companies and institutions there.

I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere thanks and deep appreciation for the many vol- unteers of the Atlanta Sister Cities Commission, chaired by Teri Simmons, and those of each individual committee who work tirelessly to ensure the success of these long-lasting connections.

Sincerely,

Kasim Reed
