Pink was an English evangelist of Puritan and Calvinist background who lived in the 19th century. His work Antichrist is a complete collection of all the Bible©s references to an antichrist figure, from both the Old and New Testaments. Pink first describes the nature of the Antichrist -- who he will be like, what his purpose is, etc. Then he works through all of the names used to describe the Antichrist in scripture (The Lawless One, The Son of the Morning, The Prince that Shall Come). He notes the "genius and character" of the Antichrist, compares him to Christ, and even outlines his doom. Before conversion, Pink was a member of an occult gnostic group, and so shows special interest in this dark, speculative subject, but his work is studied and replete with Biblical references. Not for the faint of heart, this book serves as both an inform- ative study guide and a warning for modern Christians. Herendeen, Bible Truth Depot Swengel, Pa., 17880 1 Foreword Foreword Foreword The contents of this book were first given out by the author at Bible Conferences, and then appeared in their present form in Studies in the Scriptures.1 As the subject of them is of such importance to students of prophecy, and as so little has been published thereon, we have deemed it advisable to issue them, complete, in book form. So far as the writer is aware, only two or three comparatively brief booklets and essays have appeared on this particular theme, though to their contents we are indebted for a number of helpful suggestions. Our aim has been to present as comprehensive an outline as our space would allow. Much of what we have advanced will no doubt be new to the great majority of our readers. Frequently we have been obliged to deviate from the interpretations of those who have gone before us. Nevertheless, we have sought to give clear proof texts for everything advanced, and we would respectfully urge the reader to examine them diligently and impartially. The subject is unspeakably solemn, and before each chapter was commenced we lifted up our heart to God that we might write with His fear upon us. To speculate about any of the truths of Holy Writ is the height of irreverence: better far to humbly acknowledge our ignorance when God has not made known His mind to us. Only in His light do we see light. Secret things belong unto the Lord, but the things which are revealed (in Scripture) belong unto us and to our children. Therefore, it is our bounden duty, as well as holy privilege, to search carefully and prayerfully into what God has been pleased to tell us upon this, as upon all other subjects of inspiration. Fully conscious are we that we have in no wise exhausted the subject. As the time of the manifestation of the Man of Sin draws near, God may be pleased to vouchsafe a fuller and better understanding of those parts of His Word which make known “the things which must shortly come to pass.” That others may be led to make a more thorough inquiry for them- selves is our earnest hope, and that God may be pleased to use this work to stimulate to this end is our prayer. May He deign to use to His glory whatever in this book is in harmony with His Word, and cause to fall to the ground whatever in it is displeasing to Him. 1 A monthly magazine, true to its title. Address Studies in the Scriptures, Swengel, Pa. 2 Introduction Introduction Introduction Across the varied scenes depicted by prophecy there falls the shadow of a figure at once commanding and ominous. Under many different names like the aliases of a criminal, his character and movements are set before us. It is our intention to write a series of papers concerning this one who will be the full embodiment of human wickedness and the final manifestation of satanic blasphemy. Many others have made reference to this mysterious personage in their general expositions of prophecy, but so far as our examination of the lit- erature on this subject has carried us (and we have endeavored to make it as thorough as possible) there seem to have been very few attempts made to furnish a complete delineation of this Prince of Darkness. We do not know of any exhaustive treatment of the subject, and for this reason, and also because there is no little confusion in the minds of many concerning the character and career of the coming Man of Sin, these papers are not submitted to the attention of Bible students. For upwards of twelve years we have studied diligently and prayerfully what the Scrip- tures teach about the Pseudo-Christ. The deeper we have carried these studies, the more surprised we are at the prominent place which is given in the Bible to this Son of Perdition. There is an amazing wealth of detail which, when carefully collected and arranged, supplies a vivid biography of the one who is shortly to appear and take the government of the world upon his shoulders. The very fact that the Holy Spirit has caused so much to be written upon the subject at once denotes its great importance. The prominence of the Antichrist in the prophetic Scriptures will at once appear by a glance at the references that follow. The very first prophecy of the Bible takes note of him, for in Gen. 3:15 direct reference is made to the Serpent’s “Seed.” In exodus a striking type of him is furnished in Pharaoh, the defier of God; the one who cruelly treated His people; the one who by ordering the de- struction of all the male children, sought to cut off Israel from being a nation; the one who met with such a drastic end at the hands of the Lord.

She was preserved by God from every stain of original sin. We call her Mary most holy. Her holiness was perfect. That’s why she’s the greatest of all the saints, the Queen of All Saints. Executive Vice President and Dean Professor of Theology and Pastoral Ministry The Master’s Seminary The biblical phrase “Day of the Lord” (DOL) stands as a key term in understanding God’s revelation about the future.1 The NT writers’ use of DOL rested upon their understanding of the OT prophets. A survey of the OT indicates that it was used by the prophets when speaking of both near historical and future eschatological events involving God’s wrath. The NT writers picked up on the eschatological use and applied DOL both to the judgment which will climax the Tribulation period and the judgment which will usher in the new earth. This view is not only compatible with but also strengthens the case for Futuristic Premillennialism and a Pretribulational Rapture. * * * * * Because “day of the Lord” appears so frequently in Scripture, it is incumbent upon the Bible interpreter/expositor to get it right. The implications are not minor. Yet, it is one of the most hotly contested elements in the field of eschatology. This writer’s approach has been to follow a basic protocol: 1. Determine what DOL meant to OT authors. 2. Assume that with nineteen appearances of DOL in the OT, then this meaning was carried forward to the four NT occurrences. 3. Test this thesis to see how it relates to a dispensational/futuristic eschatology. DOL appears in four uncontested NT passages (Acts 2:20; 1 Thess 5:2; 2 Thess 2:2; and 2 Pet 3:10).

For example, Harold Camping predicted Sep. 6, 1994, May 21, 2011 and Oct. 21 2011. There have been many others.1 But the Bible says we cannot know exact time: Matthew 24:36 --- “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.” Acts 1:7 --- “And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.” We might not know the exact time, but we can certainly see the stage is being set: Matthew 16:2-3 --- ‘He answered and said to them, “When it is evening you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red’; and in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Hypocrites! Ruckman, who propose various personages of both the Old and New Testaments that adumbrate the Antichrist, I devise a reduced list based on extant plays of the Spanish Golden Age whose main characters match the scriptural counterparts of my register. By making these comparisons and contrasts the reader is able to observe the poets’ embellishments of the source material, artistic contributions that in many instances probably satisfy the reader’s desire for details not found in the biblical iv narratives.

    Criswell Tabernacle A Defense of Reformed Amillennialism David J. Engelsma Response to the editorial, "Jewish Dreams" (the Standard Bearer, Jan. 15, 1995), has made clear how deep and entrenched are the inroads of postmillennialism into Reformed circles. The editorial, written at the beginning of a new year, reminded Reformed Christians that our only hope, according to the Bible, is the second coming of the Lord Jesus. It sketched in broad outline the traditional, creedal Reformed conception of the last days: abounding lawlessness; widespread apostasy; the Antichrist; and great tribulation for the true church. It gave a warning against the false hope that is known as postmillennialism, quoting a Reformed creed that condemned "Jewish dreams that there will be a golden age on earth before the Day of Judgment." Against this Reformed doctrine of the endtime with its condemnation of postmillennialism have come vehement objections. The objections arise from conservative Reformed and Presbyterian men and churches. One objector asked for a defense of Amillennialism from Scripture. He also confidently asserted that the number of Reformed Amillennialists is steadily decreasing, suggesting that the reason for this is the irrefutable arguments of the postmillennialists. It is true that the postmillennialists are very vocal and aggressive in promoting their theory of the last days. Nor is this true only of those associated with the movement known as "Christian Reconstruction." Also the men of the influential Banner of Truth publishing group vigorously and incessantly push postmillennialism, usually in connection with their expectation of a coming great revival of Christianity. It is also true that there is little or no defense of Amillennialism in the Reformed press.

  • What Do We Know About Angels?
    What do we know about angels? For Catholics, angels are more than Christmas tree toppers. Belief in the supernatural appearances of heavenly figures is part of the fabric of our faith. But how much do we know about angels? Depictions of angels as winged creatures are ubiquitous in art, and belief in them is found across the Abrahamic religious traditions. The Christian conception of angels derives from the Jewish characterization as pure spirit, created beings that are messengers of God (from Greek angelos “messenger”) and were created before humanity was. Some have feast days, such as the three named archangels — Michael, Gabriel and Raphael — on Sept. 29; the feast of the guardian angels is celebrated Oct. 2. Churches, prayers and devotions are dedicated to these celestial beings. So what does the Church teach about angels? Where do angels appear in Scripture? Shutterstock Angels appear throughout the Bible in both dreams and bodily form: The Book of Revelation recounts a vision of seven angels with trumpets standing before God (cf. Rv 8:1-2). In the Old Testament, Jacob dreams of a ladder with angels ascending and descending (Gn 28:10-12). Angels are sent to exhibit God’s strength: An angel remained guarding the tree of life after Adam and Eve were cast out of the garden (Gn 3:20-24). King David and the Israelites were to be punished by God by an angel, but with repentance and sacrifice of the king, the angel relented in the plan to destroy Jerusalem (2 Sm 24). Angels are often sent for protection: In the Book of Exodus, Moses receives an angel sent by God to guard him and lead him into the Promised Land (3:2, 23:20-22).

N ABSTRACT: The word „Restrainer‟ derived from the Greek word „katechon‟ or „katechōn‟ has the potency to put the upsurge of immorality on hold in the contemporary society according to Apostle Paul. Of course, Paul says that His presence on earth gives man breathing space relative to full blown moral decadence that will be occasioned by the son of perdition in the last days. Accordingly, the contemporary society is like a bubble that is waiting to burst; in the face of moral decadence that has permeated into its fibbers. For Paul, the comprehensiveness of such evil days will manifest as part of eschatological events. Of course, the removal of the Restrainer from the way of the son of perdition will expose the full control of the Devil. This obstructer had since been interpreted variously among scholars. Some do not know who or what is meant, while others stir middle course on the matter. This vagary of opinions a problem facing the Church calls for the establishment of the proper personification of the concept. Conclusions in this research were derived from related literature, journal articles and oral participatory interviews that were analysed in the contextual light of Pauline postulation in his second epistle to the Thessalonians.

SCHROEDER University of Notre Dame Notre Dame, Indiana HE TWELFTH CHAPTER OF THE APOCALYPSE DESCRIBES A HEAVENLY WOMAN Tclothed with the sun and crowned with twelve stars. Together with the Bride of Christ and the Whore of Babylon, she is one of three symbolic women who ap- pear in the visions of John of Patmos. A fourth woman, apparently an influential teacher in the church in Thyatira, is regarded by John as a false prophet, a “Jeze- bel” (Rev 2:20). Each woman of the Apocalypse is unequivocally aligned either with God or with Satan. These female images are part of a system of symbols used by an author who speaks to his audience in code. The woman of Revelation 12 is the mother of a son who is snatched into heaven. She is persecuted by a dragon, flees into the wilderness, and there is nour- ished by God. This symbolic woman has been variously interpreted as the Virgin Mary, Israel, Eve, and the church. In actuality, her identity is multifaceted. This es- say will explore the many aspects of her identity, examining those which are de- rived from the Old Testament, as well as those which come from sources outside the Bible. In particular, I will explore the woman’s relationship to the dragon, since this will shed light on how we are to understand the woman. I.
