City Profile The city of Bratislava has an overall territory of 367.66 km2 and, by the end of 2018, the population of the city was 432 832. The city is administratively divided into 5 districts, which are the basic administrative units of the state administration. However, for self-government purposes, it is further divided into 17 city boroughs, each of which is governed by an elected local government and an elected Mayor. Bratislava City is governed by the City parliament and the elected Mayor – currently Matúš Vallo. Figure 1.1. Implementing measures regarding optimalization of performance of state administration, processes and structures of central authorities are carried out by „Optimalization project“ which is going to be submitted in the near future and is part of operational programme Effective Public Administration 2016 – 2020. The site was part of a vast system of frontiers of the Roman Empire, which were formed in this part of Europe by the river Danube. An ingenious system of the Roman frontiers in the framework of a river border is documented in the territory of Slovakia by two Roman forts – Roman Military Camp (Fort) Gerulata in Bratislava - Rusovce and Roman Military Camp (Fort) in Iža – “Kelemantia“ which are introduced by this exhibition. It informs about their values, historical development and the history of their discovery through archaeological research. The exhibition also presents the broader context of the frontiers of the Roman Empire in Europe as well as the hinterland of both forts. The exhibition was prepared within the framework of the project Danube Limes – UNESCO World Heritage, No. 1CE079P4 implemented through the Central Europe Programme and co-financed by the ERDF. Opening of the exhibition took place on 19th April 2012 at the Museum Gerulata in Rusovce, in the presence of the President of the Slovak Republic, Mr. Ivan Gašparovič. ABOUT BRATISLAVA Bratislava is the capital and size of the population as well as the largest city of the Slovak Republic. It is a city rich in monuments, many of which are located in Old Town. The town monument reservation is one of the largest in Slovakia. The dominant feature is the four-storey Bratislava castle, next to which is the building of the National Council of the Slovak Republic and not far from the Cathedral of St. Martin. The most striking modern building is the SNP Bridge on the Danube, the world's largest suspension bridge with one pillar and one hanging plane. In 2001, it was declared the construction of a century in Slovakia in the category of bridge construction. Bratislava is located in Central Europe, at the coordinates of 17 ° 10'75 '' east longitude, 48 ° 14'90 '' N, 126 - 514 m above sea level. It spreads along both banks of the Danube, on the hilltop of the Little Carpathians. It lies in the immediate vicinity of Austria and Hungary.
