Overcomer via Channel 292 (3955, 6070, 9670 kHz): Channel 292’s Newsletter informs us: "As you know, we don't run our transmitters only for booked programmes, but the remaining about 440 hours per week we fill with own program and music. More than 33 €-cents per kWh results in expensive costs for energy, and additionally costs for technics, fees, etc. Therefore we are happy, even if not anybody might like it, that starting tomorrow, 16 August, once again we can fill the non booked hours with programme of Overcomer Ministry, because this will keep our station on air for some time. If you want to support Radio Channel 292 without having to pay anything, you can do this by sending as many reception reports as possible for this program to: [email protected] Every report helps to keep our station on air!" According to Radio Studio X, it transmits in "AM Stereo" on 1188 kHz. So not digital in DRM, but analog in AM. Radio Studio X is known for being the only European mediumwave transmitter to broadcast in AM stereo. It has already done this in the past, then on 1584 kHz. There are still countries today where analogue broadcasts are in AM stereo, for example Australia and the USA. Steffen Mehnert (31 March 2021) via Ydun's Medium Wave Info.

The website of nexus.org (IRRS-Shortwave and NEXUS-IBA) says that "a tentative service on Long Wave (207 kHz) to Europe is planned to start in late 2021. A formal authorisation has been obtained, but we are waiting for final clearance from local authorities to start regular broadcasts. You may already hear occasional, unscheduled, and transmitter tuning tests on this frequency". Christian Ghibaudo in France subsequently reported that test broadcasts had already taken place, but without satisfactory results because the antenna used in the tests was too short. The site is the same as 918 kHz, in Villa Estense near Padova. The broadcaster is AM-Italia (ex-Radio Challenger). So future plans are for operations on 207 kHz with a 300 meter antenna and possibly 1 kW.

Com munity Radio (CR) CR stations typically cover a small geographical area with a coverage radius of up to 5 km and run on a not-for-profit basis. The idea for this new level of radio broadcasting was piloted by the regulator at the time, the Radio Authority, in 2002 with the licensing of 15 so-called Access Radio stations for a trial period of one year to test the feasibility of such stations. The licences were extended in 2003 for a further year, and in 2004 a consultation was issued by the Authority's successor, Ofcom, on the creation of Community Radio. They can cater for whole communities or for different areas of interest, such as a particular ethnic group, age group or interest group. One such example was on the afternoon of 5 July 2021 when several people reported hearing a test on 15510 kHz and mentioning an email address of [email protected]. François (surname not known) posted a comment to the British DX Club iog to say that he had sent a report to this address and received a reply from Dave Porter: "Thank you for your report and I confirm the details are correct. These transmissions were to fault-find on a 250/300 kW sender at the UK HF transmitter station at Woofferton in England. These duration of these tests can be variable as the engineers can sometimes need a long time to establish a fault or they may interrupt the test, make an adjustment and resume. This is particularly so if the fault is of an intermittent nature. Encompass Digital Media, Woofferton is the only remaining UK HF sender broadcast station and also is the only one with this transmission test audio and email address. The audio is contained in a file play-out system and incorporates non-copyright music and voice announcements from one of the engineers, Martin, 2E1EKX at the transmitter site".

Afghanistan International TV On 15 August 2021, the day the Taliban captured Afghanistan’s capital Kabul, Volant Media UK Ltd, the parent company of Iran International TV, launched Afghanistan International TV (AITV). AITV aspires to serve as an international news network to provide reliable information for audiences and protect media freedom in the country. AITV, which has started with daily nine hours of live television news and programmes, plans to expand to a full 24/7 schedule as soon as possible.

Radio Emma Toc World Service The 'Radio Emma Toc World Service' is a half hour programme produced by Jim Salmon available on various broadcast stations & online. The aim is to provide a monthly entertainment & information programme - celebrating all things radio! Why 'Emma Toc' ...? Wireless station 2MT at Writtle, near Chelmsford, was required to read out their allocated callsign '2MT' at regular intervals, & in 1922 the British Army phonetic alphabet of the time was used. 'M' was 'Emma' & 'T' was 'Toc', so '2MT' became 'Two Emma Toc'. The amusing & flippant manner in which Captain Peter Eckersley read out the phonetic version of '2MT' resulted in the station being affectionately known as 'Two Emma Toc'! Check the station's website at www.emmatoc.org for details of the station's history and forthcoming broadcasts. Radio Six International Radio Six International is a private (not for profit) radio station operating from Scotland. Their website says they play "an interesting mixture of songs from the world's unsigned and indie artists in their native languages with a leaning towards instrumentals and some jazz plus specialist shows featuring oldies, bagpipes, easy listening, lounge, Americana, jazz, instrumentals, light music, classical plus some talk shows to spice up the mixture from time to time!" Transmitter site: Rohrbach, Germany (rob) - 10 kW Schedule: For the summer months (2021), Radio Six International will be on shortwave on the first Sunday of the month on Sunday 1 August and Sunday 5 September (further details at www.radiosix.com) Time/UTC Days Language kHz 1200-1300 1st Sunday of the month English 3955-rob 9670-rob

Frequencies reserved for International Radio for Disaster Relief From its infancy since 1920s shortwave radio has been associated with its potential of being a communication tool in emergencies. This use of shortwave radio is still very much present among amateur radio enthusiasts for example, who discovered its long distance properties early in the twentieth century. Amateur radio provides a means of communication on shortwaves and other frequencies "when all else fails". This role of amateur radio is well recognised, valued and appreciated both by the public and by the world institutions managing and regulating the use of the . In contrast the huge technical potential of international shortwave broadcasting that operates transmitter facilities tens, or hundred times, more powerful than those of amateur radio, remains almost unused in emergencies. At the moment when local and even regional communication and information networks are needed most, they are destroyed or overloaded and the population suffers from an information blackout. Shortwave radio is capable of remaining the only source of information. Although the life-saving role of radio broadcasting is widely recognised by the public, and confirmed by surveys conducted after the recent disasters - and even acknowledged by world leaders - no concrete projects have been ever designed and no regulatory framework has been developed. That is why the HFCC - International Broadcasting Delivery in co-operation with the Arab States and Asia-Pacific broadcasting unions are working on an International Radio for Disaster Relief (IRDR) project that is based on the system of online co-ordination of frequencies managed by the HFCC in accordance with International Radio Regulations.
