  • Attractions) with Respect to What Is Lacking, and What the Tourist Desires
b- Editions Kahia Tunis - Grafica Roma published by national office of tourism and societe tunisienne de banque a study of the existing and pc 4 ltential structure of tourism foreword Tourism in Tunisia is growing and has become both an important source of foreign exchange for the economy and source of employment for many towns and villages. The importance of foreign exchange and the potential of tourism has caused the Tunisian Government to devote a great deal of effort toward attracting an increasing number of visitors. It is believed that this industry, as it presently exists, and with development anticipated in the future, constitutes an excellent investment opportunity for American and foreign businessmen. Before further investments are made to accommodate additional tourists, it is essential that the potential market be examined to determine from what geographical area the tourists ori- ginate, their possible mode of transport, why they visit a particular area, what they spend, how long they stay, when they come, and how many visit the country. Once the pattern of the tourist market is known, interested investors can evaluate in detail, the region's resources (attractions) with respect to what is lacking, and what the tourist desires. When this determination is made, the process of creating new facilities should begin. The tourist resources of Tunisia, as described in this report, consist of the beauty of the landscape, the monuments of historic and cultural interest, and the existence of towns that are both attractive and able to furnish facilities for recreation, shopping, etc., while providing the necessary physical elements, viz., water, communications, power, etc., which are basic requirements essential to support hotels and related facilities.

  • Information Report on the Municipal Elections in Tunisia (6 May 2018)
35th SESSION Report CG35(2018)10prov 24 September 2018 Information report on the municipal elections in Tunisia (6 May 2018) Rapporteur:1 Xavier CADORET, France (SOC, L) Summary Following the invitation by the Tunisian Government, the Congress deployed an Electoral Assessment Mission of reduced scope to observe the municipal elections in Tunisia on 6 May 2018, which were the first elections held in this country at the local level after the Arab Spring of 2011. The Congress delegation welcomed the fact that, despite difficult structural conditions, both in terms of the political and socio-economic situation of the country, the vote was successfully accomplished and carried out, by and large, in line with international legal standards for elections and good practices. It stressed that the electoral success of truly independent candidates and the number of female, young and disabled candidates who were elected gives rise to hope for further democratic progress at the local level. In view of the low turnout, not least due to the socio-political situation and political disenchantment in the country, particular attention should be paid, according to the Congress, to the situation of the media, especially with regard to the creation of a regulatory framework which allows for a fully-fledged electoral campaign as part of a genuine democratic environment of elections. Simplification also with regard to eligibility requirements and the submission of candidatures could be conducive to the political participation process in general. The Congress concludes that in the medium term, until the next municipal elections, the Tunisian authorities should strive for strengthening of the local level and further decentralisation steps which involve extraordinary opportunities for the country as a whole.

  • Carthage Was the Center Or Capital City of the Ancient Carthaginian
Carthage was the center or capital city of the ancient Carthaginian civilization, on the eastern side of the Lake of Tunis in what is now the Tunis Governorate in Tunisia. Carthage was widely considered the most important trading hub of the Ancient Mediterranean and was arguably one of the most affluent cities of the Ancient World. The city developed from a Phoenician colony into the capital of a Punic empire which dominated large parts of the Southwest Mediterranean during the first millennium BC. The legendary Queen Dido is regarded as the founder of the city, though her historicity has been questioned. The ancient Carthage city was destroyed by the Roman Republic in the Third Punic War in 146 BC and then re-developed as Roman Carthage, which became the major city of the Roman Empire in the province of Africa. The city was sacked and destroyed by Umayyad forces after the Battle of Carthage in 698 to prevent it from being reconquered by the Byzantine Empire. It remained occupied during the Muslim period and was used as a fort by the Muslims until the Hafsid period when it was taken by the Crusaders with its inhabitants massacred during the Eighth Crusade. Catheral of St. Vincent de Paul: is a Roman Catholic church located in Tunis, Tunisia. The cathedral is dedicated to Saint Vincent de Paul, patron saint of charity. It is the episcopal see of the Archdiocese of Tunis and is situated at Place de l'Indépendence in Ville Nouvelle, a crossroads between Avenue Habib Bourguiba and Avenue de France, opposite the French embassy.
