Contract in Brief Challenge Royal Air Force Station Watton is a former military airfield in Norfolk, England. Opened in 1937 as a permanent Royal Air Force station, it was used by both the RAF and United States Army Air Force during World War II. During the war it was used primarily as a bomber airfield, being the Location: home of RAF Bomber Command squadrons until being used by the United States Army Air Forces Eighth Air RAF Watton, Norfolk Force as a major overhaul depot for B-24 Liberator bombers and as a weather reconnaissance base. After the war, it was returned to RAF use until being turned over to the British Army in the early 1990s. It Client: was closed and put up for sale in 1995 and the technical site was demolished to make way for a new housing Private landowners development. The Airfield site was sold back to local land owners and the Gilmerton Land Services team were able to offer their experience and knowledge to enable credits to be offered for the redundant infrastructure that remained on site. Contract Start: July 2012 Gilmerton Land Services (GLS) Solution Duration: The project was fully survived to establish the historical background for the site. The site was open ground 16 weeks and all above ground transformers and switch rooms had previously been demolished by others. GLS were able to identify value in the hidden assets in the form in the runway lighting system with three refurbishments over the airfields lifecycle. It was also identified that the High Voltage (HV) ring main had been upgraded Services Provided: from 3.3KV to 11KV over the years.
