People & Places NEWS/FEATURES Fashion Industry Evolves Amid ARAB TIMES, MONDAY, APRIL 19, 2021 NEWS/FEATURES 13 People & Places People Tries to fi nd harmony Mystikal opens up on dropped rape charge NEW YORK, April 18, (AP): After spending more than four years under the “bad dream” of rape and kid- napping charges that were recently dismissed, rapper Mystikal says he wants to shed the sexually-charged songs of his past, and now has a higher audience in mind. “When I look back and listen to the music, man — I was a nasty lil’ rapper!” he said with a hint of embar- rassment in an interview with The Associated Press. “A lot of my music now, I imagine myself rapping it to God and if I can rap it, I’m proud.” The Louisiana hip-hop legend spoke to The Asso- ciated Press in one of his fi rst interviews after fi rst- degree rape and second-degree kidnapping charges stemming from a 2016 allegation were dismissed in December. The rapper, who pleaded guilty in 2003 to sexual battery and served six years in prison, initially denied involvement with the woman and spent 18 months in jail before being released on a $3 million bond. Louisiana’s Caddo Parish District Attorney closed the investigation after new evidence was presented to a second grand jury that de- clined to bring an indictment. Mystikal The district attorney then fi led to dismiss the charges. The long ordeal “was like a reoccurring bad dream,” he said. “I didn’t know how it was going to work out.” Now he wants to make changes to his career — and In this Jan. 27, 2021 file photo, a model wears a creation for Fendi’s Spring-Summer 2021 Haute Couture fashion collection presented in Paris. VOICE MISAPPROPRIATION IN CALIFORNIA-BETTE MIDLER, TOM WAITS, AND GRANDMA BURGER BY: EDWIN F. MCPHERSON* On October 4, 2001, the California Court of Appeal, for the first time, acknowledged, defined, explained, and confirmed the common law ofvoice misappropriation in California. Unfortunately, only onejustice on the three justice panel saw fit to tell the legal world the status of the law before the parties had to go through the expense and uncertainty of a trial. The case is PriorityRecords v. SuperiorCourt (Geneva Burger). 1 As it turns out, the case was settled during trial, for an undisclosed sum of money, and the California Court of Appeal still has yet to make its voice officially heard. When Prioritywasdecided, the only common lawvoice misappropriation cases in California were Federal cases, both decided by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and both involving celebrity recording artists.

  • The Influence of Rap/Hip-Hop Music: a Mixed-Method Analysis by Gretchen Cundiff — 71
The Influence of Rap/Hip-Hop Music: A Mixed-Method Analysis by Gretchen Cundiff — 71 The Influence of Rap/Hip-Hop Music: A Mixed-Method Analysis on Audience Perceptions of Misogynistic Lyrics and the Issue of Domestic Violence Gretchen Cundiff* Strategic Communications Elon University Abstract Using a qualitative content analysis and online survey, this research examined how college students perceive and respond to the portrayal of women when exposed to misogynistic lyrics. Based on cultivation theory, this study analyzed the lyrical content of popular rap and hip-hop songs (n=20) on Billboard’s “Hot 100” chart between 2000 and 2010. Song lyrics were classified into one or more of the following coding categories: demeaning language, rape/sexual assault, sexual conquest and physical violence. Themes of power over, objectification of and violence against women were identified as prevalent throughout the content analysis sample. Survey results indicated a positive correlation between misogynous thinking and rap/hip-hop consumption. I. Introduction This study examined the culture of rap/hip-hop music and how misogynistic lyrical messages influ- enced listeners’ attitudes toward intimate partner violence. Adams and Fuller (2006) define misogyny as the “hatred or disdain of women” and “an ideology that reduces women to objects for men’s ownership, use, or abuse” (p. 939). Popular American hip-hop and rap artists, such as Eminem, Ludacris and Ja Rule, have increasingly depicted women as objects of violence or male domination by communicating that “submission is a desirable trait in a woman” (Stankiewicz & Rosselli, 2008, p. 581). These songs condone male hegemony in which “men find the domination and exploitation of women and other men to be not only expected, but actu- ally demanded” (Prushank, 2007, p.

silkk the shocker album download Charge It 2 da Game. Although it certainly wasn't planned that way, Charge It 2 da Game was No Limit's first major release since the breakthrough success of Master P's Ghetto D. Like any No Limit album, Charge It 2 da Game is primarily notable for the way it co-opts current trends. Granted, it doesn't sound as derivative as Ghetto D, possibly because Snoop Doggy Dogg, Ice Cube, and Eightball & MJG make guest appearances, along with the usual cast of No Limit refugees. Silkk himself is a fine rapper, but he's not particularly distinctive, and neither are the backing tracks. It's an improvement from the scattershot violence 'n' misogyny of his debut, The Shocker, and it's better than many of its No Limit peers, but Charge It 2 da Game is by and large just an average gangsta album. #music4u4free. 01.
