Feb 22, Friday One-day City Tour with Buddies 9:30 Meet at the Main Gate of Fudan University Contemporary China Studies Programme – Study Guide Spring 2013 3 We’ll visit Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall and take a city sightseeing tour bus to have a new sightseeing experience. It’s convenient and flexible to see Shanghai! Scenic spots along the way: The Bund, Nanjing Pedestrian Street, People’s Square, Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Jin Mao Tower, City God Temple, Yu Yuan Garden, Xintiandi and etc. Feb 23, Saturday One-day Trip To Jiading Nanxiang 10:00 a.m. Meet at the lobby of Tohee, then we’ll take the school bus to Nanxiang together. Nanxiang is a classic traditional old town in Jiading district in northwest Shanghai. The tour includes visiting Guyi Garden, and enjoy a bite of the typical traditional famous snack: Xiaolongbao. Feb 24, Sunday A day off to settle in, rest, or explore the neighborhood or downtown Feb 25, Monday Classes begin. Contemporary China Studies Programme – Study Guide Spring 2013 6 Guide to Daily Life shēng huó zhǐ nán ;生 ;活 ;指 ;南 FUDAN UNIVERSITY 复旦大学 Fudan University is the most prestigious, research-oriented university in Shanghai. It belongs to a select group of elite academic institutions in mainland China. Fudan is a member of the so- called C9 League, an alliance of the nine most prestigious Chinese universities and the equivalent of the Ivy League in the US. Fudan is also a member of Universitas 21, an association of leading research-oriented universities worldwide. Fudan University enrolls over 45,000, including full-time students and students in continuing education and online education. Additionally, there are over 3.000 students from overseas, ranking second nationally. Fudan University comprises 17 full-time schools, 69 departments, 73 bachelor's degree programs, 22 disciplines and 134 sub-disciplines authorized to confer Ph.D. degrees, 201 master degree programs, 6 professional degree programs, 7 key social science research centers of Ministry of Education P.R.C, 9 national basic science research and training institutes and 25 post-doctoral research stations. It has 40 national key disciplines granted by the Ministry of Education, nationally third. At present, it has 77 research institutes, 112 cross-disciplinary research institutes and 5 national key laboratories. In the 2011 QS World University Rankings, Fudan was ranked 91st in the world. In the subject tables compiled by QS for the rankings, Fudan is ranked 45th in the world for social sciences, 67th for life sciences & biomedicine, 49th for arts and humanities, 56th for natural sciences and 98th for engineering and technology. In 2011, The New York Times ranked Fudan University as the 34th universities in the world according to a survey of chief executives and chairmen of leading companies, and the second in Asia. Contemporary China Studies Programme – Study Guide Spring 2013 7 SCHOOL OF SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AND PUBLIC POLICY 社会发展与公共 政策学院 The CCSP is taught at the prestigious School of Social Development and Public Policy (SSDPP) of Fudan University. The School is one of the global strongholds in the teaching and research in social development studies. The SSDPP has over 60 fulltime faculty members, including world- renowned scholars like Wang Guixin and Peng Xizhe. Its international cooperation extents to such partners such as Harvard University, London School of Economics and Political Science, University of Hong Kong, Trinity College, University of Oslo, Lund University and many other. Ten percent of the School’s students are international students, from the US, Canada, Japan, UK, Germany, France, the Nordic countries, the Netherlands. FUDAN UNIVERSITY HANDAN CAMPUS 邯郸校区 The SSDPP is located at the so-called Humanities Building, or Wenke Lou 文科楼, along Handan Lu 邯郸路, directly opposite the Main Gate of Fudan University’s Handan Campus.
