John Byrne: , Head Softball Coach: Coach Byrne’s is synonymous with softball in the and beyond. His coaching accomplishments speak for themselves. He is recognized nationally as one of the top softball coaches on the NCAA Division III level.

In his first 15 seasons as head coach of Moravian, John Byrne has guided the Greyhounds to a 475-147 record, two NCAA Division III World Series appearances in 2004 and 2007, ten NCAA Division III playoff berths, 12 conference playoff appearances and 11 conference championships. Coach Byrne’s 2004 team finished as the National Championship runner-up.

Last season, Moravian won the inaugural Landmark Conference Championship and finished the year with a 33-6 record. Byrne and his staff were named the Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year, and Byrne and his staff were named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Regional Coaching Staff of the Year in 2003, 2004 & 2007.

Byrne, a 1982 graduate of Moravian, served as Athletic Recruiting Coordinator from 1985 to 1998. He is currently Assistant Athletics Director. A four-year starter on the team, Byrne was an assistant baseball coach from 1983 to 1992, head coach in 1988 and assistant football coach from 1989 to 1997. Byrne served as an associate head coach of the Philadephia Force in the league in 2007 and has worked as an associate scout for the .

Rachel Turoscy: DeSales University, Head Softball Coach: Rachel Turoscy returns to Center Valley, PA, for her seventh season as the head coach of the DeSales University softball team.

Turoscy has led DeSales to a 107-97 record in her first six seasons. The 2008 season proved to be the finest for the Lady Bulldogs who captured the Freedom Conference regular season and tournament championship earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic softball regional. Coach Turoscy’s teams have also made Freedom Conference playoff appearance in 2003 and 2004. In 2004 the Bulldogs were three outs away from eliminating King’s College from the Freedom Conference playoffs and advancing to the championship game before a Lady Monarch rally tied the game with King’s eventually winning 5-2 in eight innings.

The DSU head coaching position is the second at the college level for Turoscy after she served as the head coach at Cedar Crest College from 1997-2001. While at Cedar Crest, she was instrumental in building a softball program that began in 1997-98 with the hiring of Turoscy.

Coach Turoscy recently accepted the summer head coaching position for the Topton VIPs, a Women’s ASA Major Fastpitch team based in Lyons, PA. The VIPs are one of the oldest existing women’s fastpitch teams in the nation formed in 1960. They have had many successes throughout their existence and this past summer saw much of the same under Turoscy’s guidance. The VIPs finished fifth at the Major Nationals tying their best ever finish. Because of their outstanding performances, four of the VIPs were named ASA All-Americans.

Prior to coaching the VIPs, Turoscy lead the Spirit, a Women’s ASA Class A fastpitch team for 10 years. She also saw great success with the Spirit finishing as the National Runners-up in 2003, while winning numerous state and tournament championships and producing several All-Americans.

Her coaching experience continues including stints with Raiders Softball of the ASA Affiliate Women’s Class A League from May 1987 to August of 1992, as well as being the assistant varsity coach for both Emmaus High School and Allentown Central Catholic High School in the mid-80’s.

Turoscy was also a standout player locally at Lehigh University where she was a four-year starter and team captain both her junior and senior season.

Turoscy, who resides in Hellertown, PA, graduated from Lehigh University in 1984 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry and later earned both a Master’s of Science Degree in Chemistry and her Ph.D in Physical Chemistry. She currently teaches introductory chemistry classes for the DeSales University ACCESS Program and traditional day programs.

Karen Bauer: DeSales University, Asst. Softball Coach: Karen Bauer rejoins Coach Turoscy for her seventh season at DeSales, following her from Cedar Crest College where she was one of Turoscy’s assistants for four years.

In addition to being the assistant at Cedar Crest College from 1998-2001, Bauer also continues to work as an assistant coach at St. Francis Academy since the start of the 1999 season.

Bauer has been playing softball for 20+ years. Her career began at Brandywine Heights High School where she played four seasons on varsity. Bauer continued at East Stroudsburg University where she played from 1993-96, earning State Athletic Conference First-Team honors three times (1993, 95, & 96) as well being named the PSAC Player of the Year as a senior. She also earned the ESU Outstanding Player Award for softball three times.

She continues to play today for the Spirit Fast Pitch Women’s Class A softball team in the summer. Bauer graduated from East Stroudsburg University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education.

Bauer, who resides in Mertztown, PA, works at St. Francis Academy and Holy Guardian Angels School as a physical education teacher.

Amy Rogers: ND Green Pond, Head Softball Coach: Notre Dame Softball is under the direction of Ms. Amy Rogers (7th year), who was selected by the Colonial League as “Softball Coach of the Year” for 2004-2005.

Amy was a graduate of Indiana University, where she was awarded a full scholarship and named captain of the Hoosiers softball team during her senior year in 1992. She later earned her M.E.D in Health and Physical Education at East Stroudsburg University.

Under Coach Rogers, Notre Dame Softball has reached several milestones. Softball has made the District XI AA playoffs the last five years in a row. We have also had numerous players named to the Colonial League All-Stars, The Morning Call and Express Times All-Area teams.

Meaghan Hennesy: Former Moravian College and Force Pitcher Meaghan is a former Moravian College player who excelled for Coach John Byrnes. On the field Meaghan had about as accomplished collegiate career as a softball player could. Meaghan was a two time Division III All-American (2004&2005) and four time All-Regional selection. She was a four-time Commonwealth All-Conference First Team selection and a four-time Commonwealth Conference Pitcher of the Year honoree. Meaghan was also on the NCAA Division III Regional All-Tournament Team each of her four seasons while leading Moravian to the regional championship game each season. Hennessy led Moravian to the national title game in 2004 and was on the World Series All-Tournament Team.

Meaghan, owns every Moravian pitching record, also finished her career with her name throughout the NCAA Division III record books. Meaghan finished her career with a 92-24 record and as one of the top pitchers in NCAA Division III history. Meaghan is ranked in the top 15 in shutouts with 53, complete games with 105, with 876, wins with 92, with 819 2/3, games started with 114, games with 129 and ERA at 0.91. Hennessy had 11 saves, five no-hitters and 233 assists in her career.

Meaghan has continued to coach High School softball in as well as train softball players from the youth level through high school at The Edge Sports Academy and Health Club in Eatontown, New Jersey
