On 118 tree-lined acres, Albright is a place that connects people in an open, down-to-earth, collaborative community. With 1,650 undergraduate students, Albright’s small size ensures a 13:1 student/faculty ratio, close student/faculty relationships and an emphasis on the whole individual. Collaboration both in and outside of the classroom means students have extraordinary opportunities to work with, communicate with, and learn -- not only from faculty but many others with different perspectives and experiences.

At Albright, students have the ability to connect fields of study to create an individualized education. Today’s complex world demands the special perspective gained from an education that crosses boundaries to link knowledge, ideas, people and possibilities. Flexible thinkers, open to new ideas and able to commu- nicate are in demand in the job market. Connecting your interests and fields of learning can lead to new career possibilities.

At Albright, half of all students opt for combined or interdisciplinary major -- and still graduate in four years. Last year, students created more than 200 different combinations of majors - from art/biology to psychology/business and sociology/Latin American studies.

But whether you select a single major or combine fields of study, you will find that Albright faculty works closely with every student to create an individualized education that reflects individual talents, interests and career goals.

Albright offers more than 50 areas of study, a broad range of interdisciplinary programs including digital media, information systems, optics, Latin American studies, psychobiology, biochemistry, and environmental studies, and combined concentrations such as music/business for those interested in careers in the music industry.

Albright’s long tradition of excellence in the natural sciences and pre-professional programs continues to prepare graduates for medical, dental, and veterinary school.

Undecided about a major? The unique Alpha Program is a structured program that allows students to explore different fields of interest and assess interests and talents before selecting a major (or majors.) Alpha provides academic guidance, activities, evens, peer support, career counseling and coursework in a wide variety of disciplines to help students make an informed choice when the time comes.

3 ALBRIGHTATHLETICS.COM Gene L. Shirk Stadium

Shirk Stadium, dedicated in 1925 and home to the Albright Lions for over 80 years, underwent major renovations in 2005, turning it into one of the top Division III football stadiums in the nation.

The original home grandstand, built nearly a century ago, was replaced with a new building that seats 3,000 spectators while providing locker rooms, train- ing facilities, and a laundry room for the Lion football, men’s and women’s soccer, and field hockey teams. A state-of-the-art press box sits atop the home grandstand, giving both visiting media and VIP’s a first-class place to watch the game. The natural-grass playing surface was replaced with A-tuf, an artifical turf surface that will allow multi-sport play in the new stadium. The stadium also features top of the line lighting that will allow for night games to be played throughout the year.

A new grandstand on the visitors’ side seats 2,000 spectators, giving Shirk Stadium a total seating capacity of 5,000. Standing room for spectators is also available at either end zone.

A new main entrance, concession stands, and restroom areas sit at the south end of the stadium.

ALBRIGHTATHLETICS.COM 4 Season Preview

The Albright field hockey team will begin their 2010 season with a completely different look. New head coach Megan Monahan brings a new attitude to a team that will try to continue to improve. Briana Improvement is necessary to compete every weekend in the very tough Commonwealth Confer- Taylor ence, which consistently boasts several programs in the top 25 of Division III field hockey.

Gia Boscola, last year’s leading scorer, is back to set the tone for the Lions. Boscola has an abso- lute knack for finding the back of the net, scoring 12 goals and assisting on four others last fall for the red and white. Her leadership and ability will pace the Lions this fall.

Boscola was not alone in leading the Albright offseason, though. Senior Caitlin Feldman is always one of the fastest players on the field, and her ability to get the ball down the sideline for a cross to Boscola and others helped her tally eight assists on top of four goals of her own.

Three other forwards will partner up with Boscola and Feldman to find the back of the cage for the Lions this season. Rose Casesi, Beth Moran and Kaitlyn Pietrusewicz all have valuable experi- ence and numerous talents that could find them scoring multiple goals.

The Lions’ defense is always steady, and this year looks to be no different. Team leaders Madison Briana Taylor and Pam Swope always have their squad ready to play, and in this, their Bailey senior season, the defense should shine at Shirk Stadium.

Joining them are juniors Kelsey Ruch, Madison Bailey and Sam Pesaresi, and sophomores Sara Greaves and Courtney White. Their ability to work together and stop opponents will be very important this fall, since Albright will be using a freshman goalkeeper.

Most of the defenders also dual as midfielders, and their many talents will add some much needed diversity and depth to the Lions’ attack.

Coach Monahan finds herself with a hungry group of returners and a talented lot of fresh- men that should lead to a good fall for a team that has found itself improving each of the past few seasons.

Her guidance and attitude will push the Lions to new heights and allow them to compete in a loaded conference this fall.
