Alvin Independent School District November 10, 2015 To AISD Board of Trustees Agendum Student & Faculty Commendation Category Recognition Resource Personnel Dr. Buck Gilcrease, Superintendent Daniel Combs, Communications Attachments None Rationale National Merit Program National Merit Semi-Finalist Over 1.5 million students took the 2014 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test last October. Out of the 1.5 million who took the PSAT, the top 16,000 students are identified as National Merit Semifinalists. These students are the highest scoring entrants in each state. We are proud to announce Justin Teng from Manvel High School is a current National Merit Semifinalist. National Hispanic Recognition Program The following Manvel High School students have been recognized by the National Hispanic Recognition Program as National Hispanic Scholars, which identifies academically outstanding Hispanic/Latino high school students. Each year the NHRP honors about 5,000 of the highest scoring students from 250,000 juniors who took the PSAT/NMSQT. Paola Obispo Justino Vasquez Commended Students Commended students are recognized for the exceptional academic promise demonstrated by their outstanding performance on the qualifying test used for program entry. Students earning the Title “Commended” scored in the top 34,000 across the nation. Congratulations to the following Manvel High School students recently named as Commended Students in the National Merit Program: Mark Gannon Miriam Green Anna Rader Milan Ruiz Dina Zamil 3 AP Scholars The College Board Advanced Placement Program offers several AP Scholar Awards to recognize high school students who have demonstrated college-level achievement through AP courses and exams. Students who received an average score of at least a 4 (out of 5) on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams are considered National AP Scholars. We are proud to award this honor to Suzanne Zeller from Alvin High School and to Manvel High School students Quang Duong and Patricia Thai. Staff Commendations Manvel High School & Nolan Ryan Bands Recognized The Manvel High School Percussion Ensemble, as well as the Nolan Ryan Junior High Symphonic Band I, were both recognized by the Mark of Excellence as National Winners in their perspective divisions. Commendations are presented to Manvel High School Percussion Ensemble Director, Lou Boldrighini, and Nolan Ryan Junior High Symphonic Band I Director, Josh Mooney for being outstanding leaders in their field, and guiding Alvin ISD students to success. Junior Achievement 2014-15 Teacher of the Year We would like to recognize Leah Ann Bolton for being selected as the 2014-15 Junior Achievement Teacher of the Year. Leah was honored by the Brazoria County Business Hall of Fame for being an advocate of JA, for teaching JA courses, and for training students to teach Junior Achievement Programs. District Goal(s) None Budget Implications None Recommendation or That a commendation be presented to the students listed Proposed Motion above. 4 Alvin Independent School District November 10, 2015 To AISD Board of Trustees Agendum Presentation - Public Hearing on Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) Category Presentation Resource Personnel Susan Wilson, Chief Financial Officer Attachments FIRST Report Rationale The District’s Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) hearing is being held to announce our Superior Rating awarded by Texas Education Agency for the thirteenth year. This is based on the State's FIRST rating system. The results will be reviewed with the Board and the public on the make-up of the rating and how we can maintain this rating for the 2014-2015 school year. The District received a perfect score on every indicator. This campus is needed to serve students arriving as part of the fast growth population in an area where the existing campus is currently exceeding their designed student capacity.
