62Nd AIEST Conference nd 62 AIEST Conference A. General Information Khon Kaen City elcome to Khon Kaen, the capital of Khon Kaen Province and the Khon Kaen District. Khon Kaen is located on the Khorat Plateau, in the central-northwestern area of Isaan (also W written as Isan, Isarn, Issan, or Esarn, is the northeastern region of Thailand) around 450km from Bangkok. Isaan is located on the Khorat Plateau, bordered by the Mekong River (along the border with Laos) to the north and east, by Cambodia to the southeast and the Prachinburi mountains south of Nakhon Ratchasima. To the west it is separated from Northern and Central Thailand by the Phetchabun mountain range. Khon Kaen Citys geographical location is 16°26′N 102°50′E. The present population of the city is around 150,000 people (Khon Kaen Province population 2011 in total 1,766,066). Khon Kaen is a regional center for education, financial institutions, government offices and transportation. The city is also an industrial center, especially for the region's silk trade, as well as an agricultural hub. Presently Khon Kaen is one of the major cities under Thailand's National Economic and Social Plan. The government had endorsed Khon Kaen as the export center for trade into the Indo-China Region. The city is bisected by Mithraphap Road, also known as 'Friendship Highway', or 'Highway 2', the road linking Bangkok to the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge and Vientianne Laos. A modern, multi-lane by-pass enables through-traffic to avoid the city centre to the west, and connects to the airport and to the main roads to Kalasin and Mahasarakham in the east, and Udon Thani in the north. The city can be easily navigated by driving along either of the two north-south main roads—Na Muang and Klang Muang, which are located east and parallel to the Friendship Highway. In addition, there are two main east-west roads—Srichan Road and Prachasamosorn Road—leading east to the city of Kalasin, and West to the airport, as well as to other small villages. At Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok EASY AIRPORT STEPS To change from international flights to domestic flights at the Bangkok Airport, simply follow these steps: (Please be reminded that your baggage that has been checked-in to international flights cannot be checked through to Khon Kaen directly, you must claim it once you arrive, clear customs and check it in again for the domestic flight. The departures hall is located on the second floor which also houses some small shops selling food and gifts, while the arrivals hall is on the first floor as well as a foreign-exchange kiosk. There is small restaurant on the third floor. The terminal is connected to a large parking lot. Airport Pick-up & Send-off (Khon Kaen KKC) When you arrive at Khon Kaen Airport KKC, our staff will await for your arrival at the airport from the 24th to 27th of August. Once you arrive, you will see an AIEST booth there. The staff will escort you to Pullman Hotel by our shuttle van. Once you arrive at the hotel, you can check-in at the "Special AIEST Registration Area" at the hotel lobby on ground floor. 3 nd 62 AIEST Conference E.     Executive Summary Executive Summary The compound annual growth rate of Thai air transport over the past 10 years (2010 – 2019) was 11.4 percent with an average annual growth rate of international passengers of 10.8 percent and average annual growth rate of domestic passengers of 12.1 percent. In 2019, there was a total of 165 million passengers which increased by only 1.8 percent compared to the previous year. Total passengers in 2019 consisted of 89 million internationl passengers which increased by 7.2 percent and 76 million domestic passengers which decreased by 3 percent compared to the previous year and is considered the first domestic passengers decline in 10 years. Considering the proportions of domestic and international passengers in 2019, there were consistent with an average growth rate of flights over 10 years of 9.8 percent per year which consisting of an international flight growth of 9.7 percent per year and domestic flight growth of 9.8 percent per year. In 2019, there was a total of 1.06 million flights which decreased by 2.7 percent from the previous year due to the airlines reduced their domestic flights and increased the number of seats on international routes. As a result, the number of domestic flights decreased by 6.89 percent from the previous year. Considering the air freight volume of Thailand during this period, an overall average volume of air freight growth was 0.8 percent per year. The total volume of air freight in 2019 was 1.49 million tons, showing a 7.9 percent decrease compared to the previous year, most of which were international air freight at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

    MISSION REPORT ICAO/COSCAP Aerodrome Certification Course Bangkok, Thailand 29 June – 2 July 2009 Purpose of Mission The purpose of the mission was to present a course in aerodrome certification based on the requirements of ICAO Annex 14 Volume 1 and other relevant ICAO specifications for participants invited from the Asia Pacific Region, including member States of COSCAP-SA, COSCAP-SEA and COSCAP-NA. The objective of the course was to enable participants to develop an improved understanding of all the important regulatory and safety aspects of aerodrome certification, based on the international standards and recommended practices, and to allow participants to be able to anticipate issues and challenges faced by aerodrome operators who are required to achieve certified status. A course brochure, which was distributed in advance of the course, is at Attachment 1. Background ICAO Annex 14 Volume 1 requires States to certify certain aerodromes. This has been difficult for some States to achieve due to a lack of knowledge about certification requirements, the organizational and staffing arrangements necessary for the aviation regulatory authority, how to apply the requirements to an aerodrome operation and lack of knowledge regarding safety management systems in general coupled with a limited amount of experience in implementing an aerodrome safety management system. In recognition of these factors the course was conducted under the auspices of the ICAO Regional Office and the combined COSCAPs, and held in the Conference Hall of the Kotaite Wing at the ICAO Asia and Pacific Regional Office, Bangkok. Captain Len Cormier, CTA of COSCAP-SEA, with support of the other COSCAP CTAs, arranged for the course to be presented by Captain John Slaughter, ICAO Aerodrome Consultant, who was in the region on another ICAO mission.
