Parish Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults – RCIA Rite of Christian Initiation Adapted for Children Delhi Township, St. Dominic’s RCIA process continues year-round. Because of this, adults and children can begin at OH any time. Most who come to the Catholic Church as adults do so because God has called them through other people. If you know someone who may be interested in the Catholic Faith, ask him or her to call us, or ask if he or she would like for you to call and make the first “contact.” While new Inquirers can JuLY 2017 join the RCIA process at any time, because of our lingering “school year mindset,” many people begin to consider inquiring about the faith as the new school year begins. Now is a great time to reach out and mention becoming Catholic to someone you know who may be considering it! For more information, contact Theresa at 471-7741, ext. 418 or [email protected]. Lenten Lecture Series Follow-up Were you unable to attend the St. Dominic Lenten Lecture Series “Renewing Our Discipleship?” If you missed one, or all five of these very interesting, very informative lectures, they are available on DVD if you would like to view, or “review” them. We do this through the Sacraments, Scripture, Prayer and our interconnections with others – the family, the Parish community of Faith and the larger community and world. We welcome all registered parish families whose children attend public schools to attend our Parish School of Religion (PSR). The PSR staff and teachers are here to assist parents in their task of raising their children in the Faith. Instruction in PSR is offered during the school year (September-May) for children age 3 through 8th grade. There is special emphasis on the sacramental years, usually 2nd, 7th and 8th grades, with added activities for parents and candidates. Registration for the 2017/2018 school year will be online.

  • The Development of US Roman Catholic Church Lay Leaders
The Development of U.S. Roman Catholic Church Lay Leaders For a Future with Fewer Priests A dissertation submitted to the Division of Research and Advanced Studies of the University of Cincinnati in partial fulfillment of the Requirements for the degree of Doctor of Education (Ed.D) in the Urban Educational Leadership program of the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services 2013 by Gloria Jean Parker-Martin B.S., University of Cincinnati, 1974 M.B.A., Xavier University, 1979 Committee Chair: Mary Brydon-Miller, PhD ii Abstract The Catholic Church of the United States is facing a future with fewer priests. The diminishing number means many more parishes will be without a resident pastor, and some parishes will no longer have a priest available to them at all. The trend makes it more likely that new models of ministry will need to be launched to maintain Catholic faith communities throughout the country. It is likely more and more responsibility for the growth of such churches will rest with lay leaders. This study looks at the problem through the lens of Change Theory with the methodology of Action Research. This report examines the effects of the priest shortage trends on St. Anthony Parish in Madisonville, and the efforts to define the best ministerial and administrative structure for its lay people to position the parish within a Pastoral Region in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. For the U.S. Church to survive the laity must begin to take on roles that priests once held. There is a new vigor for the laity, particularly women, to assume stronger roles in the parishes.
