136 Olympian Triad J G R Harcling Plates 57-fJO Part I-Winter Olympus! The very name evokes imagery, divinity and soaring aspiration 'Altius' of the Olympic motto. Certainly, no other mountain in classical consciousness had a greater wealth of mythological and poetic association. And this was due in part to the religious conceptions of Ancient Greece in whose cosmography the world was created as a disc with Greece its centre and Mount Olympus-touching heaven and synonymous with it-the apex; in part to its poets and particularly Homer, the literary protagonist of the Olympians. Homer's Olympus was an imaginary paradise 'not shaken by winds, nor wet with rains, nor touched with snow'. The reality is a formidable mountain, snow-bound for six months of the year. But then, the Ancient Greeks had no real sympathy for mountains or mountain scenery. According to the Protago rean ethic, man was the measure of all things and humanism the dominant philosophy. The gods who inhabited Olympus were themselves a reflection of Man. For the Greeks the magic of the mountains was not scenic but rather their association with the spirits of nature and particularly the Oreads-nymphs whose task it was to guide the weary traveller through the dreary upland wastes. Although Homer's Olympus was more a concept than a reality, the mountain which is indisputably identified as the home of the Gods from which Zeus despatched his thunderbolts is the great massif rising almost 3000m from the shores of the Gulf of Thermae. From time immemorial it has been an obstacle to invaders moving down from Macedonia to the plains of Thessaly and on this high stage were enacted numberless mythological dramas. -

Here we present an annotated checklist of the marine fishes from Portuguese waters, including the area encompassed by the proposed extension of the Portuguese continental shelf and the Economic Exclusive Zone (EEZ). The list is based on historical literature records and taxon occurrence data obtained from natural history collections, together with new revisions and occurrences. -

Kemer Kemer is a seaside resort and district of Antalya Province on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey, 40 km (25 mil) west of the city of Antalya, on the Turkish Riviera. Kemer is on the Gulf of Antalya, 53 km (33 mi) of sea coast with the skirts of the western Taurus Mountains behind. The coast has the typical Mediterranean hot, dry weather and warm sea. Until the early 1980s this was a quiet rural district but today the town of Kemer and coastal villages in the district play a very important part in tourism in Turkey. Tourism in Kemer One of the major attractions of Kemer is its natural beauty; sea, mountains and pine forest combine in harmony. The shore from Beldibi to Tekirova consists of unspoilt beaches in bays of various sizes, mostly stony rather than sand. With easy transportation, good communication and other municipal services Kemer has a large proportion of the hotel bed capacity of the Antalya region, and is a comfortable and peaceful holiday coast with internationally accepted reputation, attracting large numbers of visitors from countries such as Germany, the Netherlands, and in recent years predominantly families from Russia. -

It is a hyperparasite that attaches itself to the dorsal face of isopods, themselves parasites in the buccal cavity of fishes. In this study, Cy. bellones was found on Ceratothoa parallela (Otto, 1828), a cymothoid isopod parasite of the sparid fish Boops boops off Algeria in the Mediterranean Sea. We provide, for the first time, molecular barcoding information of a hyperparasitic monogenean, the parasitic crustacean host, and the fish host, with COI sequences. -

Two acanthocephalan species (Neoechinorhynchus agilis in Liza aurata; Acanthocephaloides irregularis in Scorpaena porcus) and 4 nematode species (Hysterothylacium aduncum in Merlangius merlangus euxinus, Trachurus mediterraneus, Engraulis encrasicholus, Belone belone, Caspialosa sp., Sciaena umbra, Scorpaena porcus, Liza aurata, Spicara smaris, Gobius niger, Sarda sarda, Uranoscopus scaber, and Mullus barbatus; Anisakis pegreffii in Trachurus mediterraneus; Philometra globiceps in Uranoscopus scaber and Trachurus mediterraneus; and Ascarophis sp. in Scorpaena porcus) were found in the intestines of their hosts. This fish has not been seen before in the Gulf of Antalya. This fish was identified as Pisodonophis semicinctus (Richardson, 1848). With the identification of this fish, a new species was added to the fish fauna of the Gulf of Antalya. In the present paper, we reported P. semicinctus for the first time from the Gulf of Antalya, Turkey (North-Eastern Mediterranean), for the third time from marine waters of Turkey. This process aims to achieve the Good Environmental Status (GES) through the elaborated 11 Ecological Objectives and their respective common indicators. Since 2008, Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention have adopted the EcAp and agreed on a roadmap for its implementation. First phases of the EcAp process led to the accomplishment of 5 steps of the scheduled 7-steps process such as: 1) Definition of an Ecological Vision for the Mediterranean; 2) Setting common Mediterranean strategic goals; 3) Identification of an important ecosystem properties and assessment of ecological status and pressures; 4) Development of a set of ecological objectives corresponding to the Vision and strategic goals; and 5) Derivation of operational objectives with indicators and target levels. -

July 2015, 69 pp. 2 Executive Summary On July 15, 2013, NMFS received a petition to list 81 species of marine organisms as endangered or threatened species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). If an ESA petition is found to present substantial scientific or commercial information that the petitioned action may be warranted, a status review shall be promptly commenced (16 U.S.C. 1533(b)(3)(A)). NMFS determined that for 27 of the 81 species, including the island grouper (Mycteroperca fusca), the petition had sufficient merit for consideration and that a status review was warranted (79 FR 10104, February 24, 2014).
