I have also co-developed, adapted, and/or co-authored (with Dr. R.A. Cooke, pursuant to his work and that of Dr. J. C. Lafferty and Dr. J. Szumal) a series of Internet-based diagnostic instruments and experiential exercises (e.g., behavioral surveys, exercises, and training materials) used throughout the world for individual and group development, virtual team assessment, and organizational change programs. These instruments have been used by both the business community for knowledge acquisition and organizational development and by the academic community to better understand the causes and outcomes of behavior within traditional and virtual environments. These instruments, copyrighted and published, include:

MyOCI – The Organizational Culture Inventory: adapted from the work of R. Cooke and published by Human Synergistics International, is an assessment of organizational culture

Organizational Change Challenge: adapted from the work of J. Szumal and published by the Center for Applied Research, provides participants with an opportunity to practice their skills in both change management and rational decision making. The exercise has also been re-introduced as a team-building module.

Project Management Challenge: adapted from the work of J. Szumal and published by the Center for Applied Research, provides participants with an opportunity to practice their skills in both project management and rational decision making. The exercise has also been re-introduced as a team-building module.

Team Project Management Challenge: a group adaptation of the PMC above. From the work of J. Szumal and published by the Center for Applied Research, it provides collaborating participants with an opportunity to practice their skills in both project management and group decision making. The exercise has been used as a team-building module.

Corporate Ethics Audit: is a normed instrument that assesses the potential of ethical issues within organizations. It is adapted from the work of R.A. Cooke at the University of Illinois.

AMA DISC Survey: co-developed with R.Cooke and based on the early work by William Marston is published by AMACOM, a division of the American Management Association. The instrument is a personal styles survey that focuses on the ways in which people approach their work and relate to others within their organizations.

Life Styles Inventory: adapted from the original work of J. C. Lafferty and published by Human Synergistics International, measures 12 specific styles or patterns of thinking that can either help or hinder a person from reaching his or her potential.

Desert Survival Situation: adapted from the original work of C. Lafferty and R. Cooke and published by Human Synergistics International is one of the original group process simulations and, its in original form, is one of the most widely used training tools in the world.

Group Styles Inventory: adapted from the work of R. Cooke and published by the Center for Applied Research, is an assessment of the way in which team members interact with one another and approach problems when working together.

Ethical Decision Challenge: adapted from the work of R. Cooke and published by the Center for Applied Research, provides participants with an opportunity to practice their skills in both ethical analysis and in group decision making. Pierre A. Balthazard, Ph.D. Curriculum Vitae - 14

Stress Processing Report: adapted from the original work of J. C. Lafferty and published by Human Synergistics International, measures 19 specific life patterns that correlate with the generation or reduction of stress.

Constructive Negotiation Challenge: adapted from the work of R. Cooke and published by AMACOM, a division of the American Management Association. The instrument provides participants with an opportunity to improve both their negotiation skills and their group decision-making skills. Specifically, the exercise challenges participants to figure out the optimal sequence for carrying out activities that are critical to an integrative negotiation process.

Life Styles Inventory – 2: adapted from the original work of J. C. Lafferty and published by Human Synergistics International is a 360 degree feedback tool for managers and leaders. It measures from several perspectives 12 specific styles or patterns of thinking that can either help or hinder a person from reaching his or her potential.

360 Degree DISC Survey: published by the Center for Applied Research, provides a reliable and valid assessment of group behaviors, processes, and skills that have an impact on solution quality and acceptance, team performance, synergy, and members’ commitment to their teams.
