1 General Information

BIRTHDAYS

A camper’s birthday is very special at camp! From the whole camp singing “Happy Birthday,” to the cabin party the day of the birthday, to the special Birthday Ball held once each session (where the birthday girls from that session sit at a banquet table with Libby and are honored at the big talent show later that evening), campers love having camp birthdays!

For birthdays, you may: • Send birthday cards and letters. • Send ONE birthday package (no food) from the parents. It should be addressed to Laura Hollowell. (See the No Package Policy on page 10.) • Send a watermelon or fruit basket.

PENPALS

In the springtime you will receive a card with the name and address of another camper who is coming to camp. She is your daughter’s Penpal, a fun and helpful tradition everyone loves! Encourage your camper to write her Penpal; it is disappointing when a Penpal does not write.

Things to remember about Penpals: • Make certain your daughter writes her Penpal immediately. • Be patient... some campers are slow to write.

2 • Request for your camper’s Penpal to be in her cabin if that is important to you; we do not automatically put your camper’s Penpal in the cabin (do this by filling out the Online Cabin Request form). • Write a second time if you do not hear from your Penpal. The second letter usually does the trick.

In addition to a Penpal, all 3rd, 4th, and some 5th graders at Main Camp will receive a “Big Sister” in the spring. Enjoy writing to your Big Sister. Main camp 9th - 11th graders will not receive a penpal.

CABIN ASSIGNMENTS

We encourage campers to attend without concern for cabin requests, but we will make every effort to place your daughter with ONE special requested friend, IF that friend also requests her. One of the real benefits of a camp experience involves meeting and making new friends from different places.

Please understand that clear communication with your requested friend is very important. If you do not think it best to be with a camper who is requesting your daughter, be honest with the parents involved. Such difficult conversations are easier before Opening Day! Cabin requests are not confidential.

If you would like to request someone to be in your daughter’s cabin, please fill out the Online Cabin Request form before the deadline. Please remember, we try to accommodate all mutual cabin requests. Feel free to not request anyone…. meeting new people is the best part of camp! 3 We do not allow bunk saving at camp – first come, first served on Opening Day! You will find out your daughter’s cabin assignment when she arrives on Opening Day (we will not tell you prior to Opening Day arrival).

NO VISITOR POLICY

New for 2013: No Visitor Policy!

In an effort to provide the best camp experience possible, Greystone has a No Visitor Policy.

Camp is a very close-knit and relational community. This bond represents the best aspect of the camper experience and also makes our camp a very secure environment. Visitors negatively impact both of these outcomes. When large numbers of visitors arrive for special events or during the weekend, their presence not only changes the camp “feel”, but also represents a very real security challenge.

The No Visitor policy applies to all of our camp sessions. This policy also includes trips out of camp with parents or friends; these are no longer allowed.

We recommend parents visit camp on Opening and Closing days to meet Greystone counselors and view the camp facility. Greystone will be closed to visitors between sessions, as we prepare for Opening Day. We will still give prospective campers tours of our camp facility.

Please fill out your No Visitor Policy Online Form to indicate that you have read and understand this policy.

4 Despite the No Visitor Policy, there are many ways to connect with us throughout the summer:

Parents: • Follow along with our daily News updates • Sign in to your account to see daily photos • Write or e-mail your daughter often • Listen online to our Morning Assembly devotions

Previous campers & counselors; Skip-year girls: • Write to your friends at Greystone • Follow along with our daily News updates • Sign in to your account to see daily photos • Listen online to our Morning Assembly devotions

Alumnae campers and counselors: • Put your name on the waiting list for our fall Greystone Alumnae Reunion • If you have not been to camp recently, schedule a camp tour to see camp as it is today

Sunday Church: • Listen online each week to our Sunday sermons

Syncro Show, Play Production, and Horse Show: • We hope to film or live stream all of these events so that you can see our camp productions

4th of July: • Sign in to your account to see photos from the carnival • Watch our 4th of July video short after the summer

5-year celebration: • You will love our new system for sharing our oldest campers’ favorite memories (coming this summer!) 5 EARLY BIRD ENROLLMENT

After your camper’s session ends, you will receive information about early birding for next summer. This registration will not be available until after your camper’s session is over; please do not re-apply until that time. You must complete this registration within three weeks of your camper’s session ending to ensure your spot for next summer. Deposits are fully refundable until December 1.

PERSONAL ALLOWANCE

The Personal Allowance account is designed to cover any extra expense a camper incurs while at Greystone. This includes stamps, offerings, prescription drugs, CANDY SHOPPE (flat fee per session), faxes, etc. Also available to the camper are items in The Greystone Store. The Greystone Store carries small items commonly forgotten or lost, such as toothpaste, film, batteries, shampoo, etc. It also carries apparel, gift items, books and stationery.

Junior Camp does not have a Personal Allowance account; however, the store will be open Opening & Closing Days.

For the June, Main, and August sessions, you will need to print the Personal Allowance sheet from your Online Forms and mail it back with a check made out to the Greystone Store. Please do not include your daughter’s Personal Allowance with her activities or tuition payment.

We encourage you to buy clothing & larger items prior to camp from our camp catalog (available on our website in March). We do NOT allow account overspending, so you 6 might want to consider adding to your daughter’s allowance if she will be purchasing more expensive items while at camp. Suggested amounts for store allowance: June: $100, Main: $175, August: $75

ELECTRONICS/VALUABLES

We do not allow electronic items at camp, including cell phones, IPOD’s, DVD players, Wi-Fi Devices, e-readers, iPads, computers, etc. We will take these on the first day of camp and put them in the camp safe. ONCE THESE ITEMS ARE IN THE SAFE, THEY WILL REMAIN IN THE SAFE UNTIL CLOSING DAY. We will not get your cell phone out of the safe until Closing Day.

As always, we recommend that campers not bring valuables to camp! Greystone cannot be responsible for any lost items, and often these items are irreplaceable.

Digital cameras without Internet capabilities are allowed. We will be checking cameras on Opening Day.

LABELING POSSESSIONS

Please label everything you send to camp! Get a “Sharpie” and write your daughter’s last name and first initial in everything.

• Write her name on disposable cameras. • Show your camper where her things are marked. • Please do not forget to label items such as shoes, cameras, Bible, sleeping bag, tennis racquet, etc.

7 LAUNDRY

Your daughter’s laundry is washed, dried, and folded for your daughter while she is at camp. (There is no laundry at Junior Camp). We wash the clothes at camp, with cold water, colors and whites sometimes mixed together. Our laundry service has a 24-hour turn around time, with campers’ clothes being picked up during rest hour and being returned the following rest hour.

Number of times your daughter’s clothes will be washed: Junior camp: no laundry service June camp: 2 times Main camp: 4 times August camp: 1 time

Please keep in mind that this is a commercial laundry, so please send clothing of a simple nature that will look neat with a wash and tumble-dry process.

We do not wash personal sheets. Girls must change their own sheets once during the June and Main camp sessions, so if you plan on bringing your own sheets, please send more than one set. There is an optional sheet change most Sundays at all of our sessions.

8 Communication

LETTERS & FAXES

Letters: Campers love to get letters! We strongly encourage you to send hand-written letters. Since “snail mail” can take three to five days for delivery, preparation (send letters even before camp begins) and patience are necessary. Please send flat standard sized envelopes only. Do not put anything in with your letters. Anything more than a letter is considered a package! (See No-Package policy on page 10.)

Please address letters to your camper’s FULL name and cabin number, and to the following address: Camper’s Full Name, Cabin Number Camp Greystone 21 Camp Greystone Lane Zirconia, NC 28790

We have mail bins set up on the office porch on Opening Day, so you can leave mail for the first few days of camp. We will put the cabin number on these letters, as you will not know her cabin until the first day of camp.

Faxes: Campers may send and receive faxes. There is a $1 charge to receive a fax and a $3 charge for a camper to send a fax. Your camper’s personal store account will be charged for the faxes. Please address faxes with both your camper’s full name and cabin number at the top so we can get it to her! Camp Fax# (828) 693-1562

Please give your daughter your fax number, if you would like for her to send a fax home.

9 PACKAGES

Greystone is proud to be Package Free!

Greystone itself is a wonderful gift for your daughter! Campers may not receive packages at camp. All large envelopes, padded envelopes and regular envelopes containing “anything” (other than a letter) are considered packages and will be returned.

However, if there is a necessary item left at home that your daughter must have, or ONE birthday gift (no food) from the parents, you may mail the package addressed to: Laura Hollowell ATTN: (Your Camper’s FULL Name) 21 Camp Greystone Lane Zirconia, NC 28790 Please make sure that your camper’s name is clearly marked. If it is a birthday gift, please also add: “Birthday June 10th.” Necessary examples: Not Necessary: Toothbrush Magazines Bible Costumes/dress-up clothes Rain boots Stickers Eye glasses Notepads/Gifts, etc. A retainer These items will be sent home. Pillow left at home

Please remind your friends and relatives of our No Package Policy.

All packages that are NOT addressed to “Laura Hollowell” will be returned to the sender. Any packages that contain unnecessary items will also be returned and the postage charged to the camper’s account. We will make sure that 10 all necessary items (addressed correctly) are delivered to your camper. As always, candy and other food items are not allowed (this includes the birthday gift) and will be donated to Ministry Seven. Watermelon and fresh fruit are allowed, but we give out apples each morning and watermelon each afternoon. No need to send fruit anymore.

ALSO: If you need to send medication or a health related item for your camper, please address the package to: The Health Hut ATTN: (Your Camper’s FULL Name) 21 Camp Greystone Lane Zirconia, NC 28790

EMAILS

To e-mail your camper, you must first log in to your account on our website (click “retrieve password” link if needed).

Once logged in, you may send free e-mails to your camper(s). Use the CC: field to send the same message to multiple campers. Only text will be delivered (no attachments).

E-mails are printed every day at 11 a.m. for after lunch delivery (excluding Sunday).

Under the Online Community menu, you may create guest accounts for family. We do not allow friends to e-mail campers (have them send letters). We do not deliver offensive e-mails, and will delete the user from our system.

Do not give out your password. Your account is connected to your financial information. 11 PHOTOS

To view photos of your camper(s), you must first log in to your account on our website (click “retrieve password” link if needed).

Please know that we take as many photos as possible but that we will not necessarily take a picture of your daughter every day. Before camp, remind your daughter to get in front of the camp camera!

All of the photos you view online are available for purchase as prints, digital downloads, or gift items. If you have problems with the photo system, please use the Help link at the top of the page, as Greystone does NOT directly operate the photo system.

Here are some tips from Jimboy on how to view thousands of photos most efficiently:

“There are typically 3 folders every day (Morning, Evening, and Jimboy). To sort these photos, you have to come up with a system. I set my page to show 48 photo thumbnails (the max), then scan the page very quickly. When I see good shots (even if my daughter is not in them), I click the star icon (marking it as a Favorite). I then go page to page, not enlarging any of the photos in that entire album until I have scanned the entire album. I then go into the Favorites and go picture to picture, deleting any that are not what I first thought. In this way you spend your time on the “good stuff.” I can scan 1500 photos in less than 10 minutes. Refresh the Gallery throughout the day as we add photos all day long.” - Jimboy

12 OPENING DAY

Junior Campers: On Opening Day, we ask that you arrive between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m., departing camp by 9:30 a.m., at which time we begin the session with an opening assembly.

June, Main, & August Campers: Plan to arrive at camp as soon as possible on both Opening and Closing days. We recommend that you arrive between 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. We will not allow campers and families into our cabin area until 7:30 a.m. on both Opening and Closing days.

For All Sessions: On Opening Day, you will be greeted by one of our smiling staff members who will tell you what cabin your daughter will be living in. We will tag all of your heavier bags and carry them to the cabin for you. You will need to carry all loose items (wear comfortable shoes). Your daughter’s counselor will be waiting at your cabin with a nametag and a big hug! Remember, no bunk saving. You are welcome to help unpack and then take any medications to the Health Hut (including over the counter medications).

The Greystone Store will also be open. There is no need to check in at the office, unless you have a question or want to make a deposit in your daughter’s Store account.

GPS Address for Opening Day Entrance: 21 Camp Greystone Lane, Zirconia, NC 28790 (This is our back staff entrance to camp.)

13 AIRPLANE ARRIVAL

A Greystone representative will be waiting for your camper, usually at the gate (this is by permission of airport security, not guaranteed). If not at the gate, we are at the baggage claim area. This Greystone representative knows to expect your daughter and will escort her from the airport to camp. When the girls arrive at camp, they will be greeted by their counselor who will assist them with settling into the cabin. About 10% to 20% of our campers fly.

If your camper is an unaccompanied minor please designate the person meeting at arrival or taking your child to the airport as: Jim Miller IV 21 Camp Greystone Lane Zirconia, NC 28790 Phone: 828-693-3182

If your camper is flying, we recommend sending luggage via UPS (see information on page 18 about shipping luggage). If luggage is sent on the airlines, please mark any bags clearly as a Camp Greystone item, with your camper’s first and last name on the outside of the baggage. All luggage must be under 50 lbs.

ASHEVILLE, NC (just 15 miles from camp): The Asheville Airport (AVL) offers a very quick transition to camp. This is the best airport for the campers, for once we greet the campers we immediately drive to camp.

Airlines flying to AVL: Delta, USAir, United, and Allegiant (Th, Sun)

14 GREENVILLE, SC (located 50 miles from camp): The Greenville/Spartanburg Airport (GSP) is less convenient for the campers. Once we greet the campers, the one-hour drive to camp may be delayed until the van or bus is filled.

Airlines flying to GSP: Allegiant, American, Delta, Southwest, United, USAir

UNACCOMPANIED MINOR

It is best if you purchase the Unaccompanied Minor Service for both flights at the same time. However, some airlines require the service to be paid at the departure airport. Please check with the airline for their policy. If the airline requires it to be purchased at the departure city (being AVL or GSP), we can purchase it for you. Please send the completed Unaccompanied Minor Form and a check to Camp Greystone (mark envelope ATTN: Travel).

This unaccompanied minor information is based on what is available at the time of printing: Allegiant Airlines Southwest • No unaccompanied minors, must • Children under 15 travel with an adult • $50 each way for direct flight

American/American Eagle United • Children under 12 • Children under 12 • $100 each way for direct flights • $99 each way • No fee for traveling w/ guardian 16 or older US Air • Children under 15 Delta • $100 each way, MUST be direct • Children under 12 • $100 each way for direct

15 LAST WEEK OF CAMP

The last week of camp is filled with special events for the campers. Our summer culminates in a huge theme banquet, where awards are given out after the feast. Because the final days of camp are so important to the overall memory of camp, we strongly discourage you from having your daughter leave before Closing Day. Due to our No Visitor Policy, parents and guests can no longer attend events like the Syncro Show, Horseshow, and Play (see page 4).

CLOSING DAY

Junior Camp: On Closing Day, the girls will have a closing banquet that will be over at 10:00 a.m. Parents may arrive as early as 8:00 a.m. to load trunks into cars while the girls participate in the banquet. You will park in the same manner as Opening Day. Girls will be dismissed to their cabin at 10 a.m. and free to go after that time.

June, Main, & August Camps: On Closing Day, the gates open at 7:30 a.m., and we encourage you to be here before 9:30 a.m. You will park in the same manner as Opening Day, then walk up the hill to your daughter’s cabin.

For All Sessions: We carry all of your daughter’s heavier items down to the track and sort them by cabin. On each bag, we place a nametag that has her name, cabin number, and the number of bags that we have brought to the track (for example: “1 of 4,” “2 of 4,” etc.). Please check this tag to confirm that you picked up your daughter’s bag (many do look alike) and that you have gotten all of the bags that she sent to the track. You will need to carry down any of her 16 lighter items from her cabin.

Please feel free to visit the Greystone Store one more time and take a brief walk around our facilities. Your daughter will love to show you where all of the program areas are located and where she sat in the dining hall.

AIRPLANE DEPARTURE

On Closing Day, if your daughter is flying, we have found the girls prefer to take the early flights (7:00 a.m. or so). Purchase a return unaccompanied minor form if required by your airline (see page 15). If your camper is an unaccompanied minor, please designate the person taking your child to the airport as:

Jim Miller IV 21 Camp Greystone Lane Zirconia, NC 28790 Phone: 828-693-3182

We strongly recommend you ship your baggage home via our UPS service, which offers a more economical price. Overweight airline luggage (over 50 lbs.) will add an additional $50 for an overweight bag (see page 18).

If you do choose to send your luggage home through the airlines, you will need to send a check covering the baggage fees to the Travel Director. You can include Unaccompanied Minor Fees with this check (see page 15). Due to the large volume of campers flying home, the airlines only accommodate ONE checked bag on the airplane. The rest of your daughter’s bags need to be sent via our UPS service. 17 If your camper is only departing camp by air, forms and payment can be completed at the Office on Opening Day.

FLIGHT CHANGE NOTICE

It is impossible for Greystone to be able to reach each parent concerning airport delays. Parents may call the airline on which their daughter is flying to confirm arrival time. If changes have been made, i.e. rebooking a flight or delay of flight, the airline is in the best position to give you the most current update. In addition, parents are welcome to call Greystone if they are concerned that their daughter’s flight may have been delayed. They may call the main number, 828- 693-3182, and ask to speak to the Travel Director.

SHIPPING LUGGAGE

To Camp: If any luggage cannot be brought with you, please ship by United Parcel Service (UPS) or Federal Express. (Please note: both companies will only cover damages to your luggage if it is boxed, by them.):

CAMPER’S FULL NAME AND SESSION Camp Greystone 21 Camp Greystone Lane Zirconia, NC 28790

All luggage deliveries are placed in your daughter’s cabin by Opening Day.

Shipping Home: As a service to you, we offer an option for sending your luggage via UPS. We will box and ship your 18 trunk or duffle bag from camp to your home. The cost for this service will be a flat fee of $30 per item, plus the actual shipping cost. Please do not send a return label. We will box, weigh and label each item.

UPS considers the outside of the trunk, suitcase, duffle bag, etc., to be the package skin and will not accept responsibility for outside damage. For this reason, we box all outgoing UPS shipments.

In order to ship your luggage home, please complete the Baggage Assignment portion of your Online Travel Form, and we will handle the rest of the shipment. Please contact our Travel Director two weeks prior to Closing Day regarding any last minute changes regarding shipping your daughter’s luggage.

Trunks should weigh no more than 70 pounds. Anything over 70 pounds drastically increases the shipping charge! You may choose to ship more than one item.

Questions and arrangements for UPS shipping service should be directed to Gervais Hollowell at 828-693-7771 or [email protected].

19 HEALTH & SAFETY

We have one of the most impressive Health Care staffs anywhere, with full time nurses and doctors on site and on call 24 hours a day, in a well furnished, up to date facility. We hope that your daughter will never need to experience our Health Hut, but if she needs us, we are here to help her get back on her feet! We are committed to calling you if there is ever an issue that affects your daughter’s camp experience. This would include the following circumstances:

• If your camper spends the night at the Health Hut. • If your camper needs prescription medication. • If your camper needs to visit a doctor in town, get x-rays, or lab work. • If your camper’s schedule must be changed due to an illness or injury.

Prior to Opening Day, please contact us to discuss any health concerns. For your daughter’s sake, as well as the health of other campers, please do not bring her to camp if she has had a fever or other illness within 24 hours of Opening Day. Please call the Health Hut to discuss this with us.

On Opening Day, please visit the Health Hut if your daughter has been exposed to any potential concerns within 2 weeks of camp (including lice).

Health Forms: Please be sure that we have your daughter’s Online Health Form on file by May 1st! (Please call our office if you need an extension.) If there are changes to your daughter’s health condition after your form has been sent in, contact the office and we will update her records.

20 Medical Care: Greystone has up to 6 registered nurses, a 24- hour a day resident doctor, and our Health Director, a retired pediatrician (Dr. Margaret) to care for your daughter’s needs. Should an accident or illness be untreatable at camp, we have arrangements for professional service in Hendersonville, NC, and Greenville, SC.

Medications: Campers are not permitted to keep any medications in their cabins. There is no need to bring over the counter medications as we keep such items in the Health Hut. Medications brought to camp (including over-the- counter medications, if you choose to bring them) will be stored and administered by a nurse in the Health Hut. Please bring all medications to the Health Hut upon arrival at camp on Opening Day. If your daughter needs to keep emergency items with her (i.e., for bee stings or asthma) please come by the Health Hut and speak to the nurse.

**Please note: Because we have a very structured schedule, children who are on medication for ADD/ADHD often have a better camp experience if they stay on their medication while at camp.

Lice: All campers will have their heads checked for lice on Opening Day. If a camper comes to camp with Lice, we will arrange for professional care. Parents will be responsible for the cost of treatment.

Eating Concerns and Disorders: Campers sometimes arrive at camp with eating issues. Sometimes these are serious problems like anorexia or bulimia; sometimes they are just minor obsessions with a diet they started at home. In both cases, we have found that these campers have a difficult time at camp. Focusing on “control” of their food

21 and diet in this atmosphere is frustrating and can be harmful to both the camper and the camp community at large. It is most likely such campers will be unable to have a good experience at camp. Should a camper exhibit any signs of an eating disorder, we will contact you immediately and make arrangements for her to go home & seek professional counseling. If you have any questions about a particular situation, please contact Margaret Miller (our Health Director) immediately. ([email protected])

Professional Counseling: There are some situations that we are not qualified to handle. In such cases we will call you for permission to take your daughter to a professional counselor, or so you can take her home for counseling.

Calling the Health Hut: Should you ever have any questions regarding the state of your daughter’s health, feel free to call us directly at the Health Hut. We maintain detailed records of any visits and will always be able to answer any questions. Health Hut direct phone #: 828-693-9841

Accident and Medical Insurance Coverage: Greystone is a very safe (and fun!) place to be; however, accidents and illnesses do happen. In an effort to better assist our campers and families, Greystone provides Accident and Medical Insurance coverage FREE OF CHARGE! This policy will cover medical expenses incurred by a camper involved in an accident causing injury and emergency sickness. Covering such expenses as hospitalization expenses, doctor’s fees, expenses for medicines, and more, Greystone will file a claim on the camper’s behalf for medical reimbursement. This policy (Axis Insurance Company) will be the primary insurance coverage for your camper and will pay for medical expenses, subject to the policy’s limits. We will still collect insurance information through your Online Medical Forms, 22 just in case it is needed. To find out more about this policy and what is covered, please visit our Health & Safety information on our website.

HOMESICKNESS

We know that one of every parent’s greatest concerns is that their daughter makes a good adjustment to camp and the social demands of camp community living without going through the sad days brought on by homesickness. Most of the time what children are actually experiencing when they say they are homesick is really not homesickness at all! Rather, they are having a hard time facing the challenge brought on by new surroundings and faces, and are feeling anxious and worried. As adults, we all know that growth and self-confidence come by going through new and challenging experiences.

To prepare your daughter, read carefully ALL MATERIALS we send you this spring and carefully follow the suggestions on arrival times, items to pack, etc. Keep up her excitement, and be sure she knows what you have packed in her trunk. Let her know who to go to with any problems or questions: her counselor or her Group Leader. If you will be away from home, let her know how to write you. Encourage her to make new friends and try new things.

If you or your daughter are having misgivings about camp or have had consistent difficulties with overnights in the past, please call the camp and speak to a director for advice on resolving these issues before she comes to camp. Do not attempt to calm her fears by inferring that she can come home if she does not like camp. 23 Top Reasons For Homesickness:

The parents have said, “If You Don’t Like it, You Can Come Home.” This is the #1 reason that many campers are homesick the first days at camp. Parents should never put the burden of this decision on a camper. Never give a child this option before she goes to camp. If you have concerns, please call us first.

A Physical Condition: The child is hungry or dehydrated, or she may be feeling ill or simply tired. When she feels uncomfortable in this way, she knows that her parents take care of these situations at home, and she needs that same attention at camp. Our staff eliminates the “homesick-ness” of these campers early on by addressing the physical needs.

A Social Reason: The child has had an argument in the cabin or has not yet found a close friend at camp. She is uncomfortable about “fitting in.” These situations are resolved through the combined efforts of the counselor and Group Leader to encourage the child in any way, get her involved in activities, and seek out a new friend.

Camp Anxiety: These are campers who claim they are homesick because they are uncertain of an aspect of camp (the overnight camp-out, where her classes are, sleeping in the cabin, etc.). These situations are also resolved by working through any situations that make the camper uncomfortable.

“Left Out of Big Event At Home:” This camper is missing a “big event” at home (vacation, new baby, moving, etc.) These children are fine at camp once they become involved in camp activities.

24 JUNIOR CAMP

Welcome to Junior Camp!! On Opening Day, we ask that you arrive between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m., departing camp by 9:30 a.m., at which time we begin our session with an opening assembly for the campers. Your daughter’s adjustment to camp will be the most successful if you are able to settle her and be moving on by this time. Please save tours of camp until Closing Day of camp.

Here are some facts about Junior Camp that you will want to know: • There are usually 8 to 10 girls in a cabin with one to two cabin counselors. • Cabin counselors stay with their cabin throughout the day, participating with them in most activities. • There is no laundry service for this session. • Beds will already be made when you arrive. • Many parents pre-write letters to have delivered to their campers Mon., Tues., Wed. & Thurs., so that they will get mail each day. These can be dropped off in mail bins on the Office porch on Opening Day. • There is no personal allowance for this session. If your daughter has a need for something in the Store, we will charge her account and bill you later. The Store will be open on Opening and Closing Days for your convenience and shopping pleasure. • No skiing or riding lessons are offered during this session, but there will be time at the Barn with the horses and a pony ride. • Check out our web site (www.campgreystone.com/ news) for daily updates. Log into your account to view pictures. • On Closing Day, the girls will have a closing banquet 25 that will be over at 10:00 a.m. Parents may arrive as early as 8:00 a.m. to load trunks into cars (camper trunks will be placed on the soccer field) while the girls participate in the banquet. Girls will be dismissed to their cabin at 10 a.m. and free to go after that time. This is a great time for a camp tour.

PACKING FOR TRADITIONS

For our June, Main and August sessions, we recommend packing some items based on our special events and traditions. These include:

Sundays and Banquet: Girls must wear All-Whites on Sundays and to our Banquet celebration. All-whites means a white t-shirt and white shorts. 31 Challenge Day: Girls will be placed on a team based on their cabin assignment. Odd numbered cabins will be on the Odds team (green) and even numbered cabins on the Evens team (gold). Your daughter may want a green and gold shirt to wear for this event; shirts can also be purchased from our Greystone Store. Campers will find out which team they are on when they find out their cabin assignment on Opening Day.

Evening Programs: Many campers enjoy bringing dress- up costumes with them to camp, as we enjoy dressing up! Halloween costumes, old dance costumes, funny t-shirts… anything will work. Campers can also borrow things from our prop closet.

Five Year Celebration (Main Camp only): Campers who have completed at least five years at camp (three of those at Main) will need a white dress for our 5 year ceremony.

Fourth of July (Main Camp only): We enjoy celebrating our nation’s birth at Greystone! Many campers enjoy wearing red, white, and blue.

Overnight Campout: At our June and Main session, every cabin will enjoy an Overnight Campout at our Apple Hill campout location. Campers will need a sleeping bag. During our August session, our oldest age group (finished 6th grade) will sleep outside and need a sleeping bag. Our other age groups will enjoy their Overnight in their cabin; sleeping bags are optional.
