La Salette Reflections Fr. Rene Butler, M.S. and Wayne Vanasse Saturday, March 13 8:30 AM Alex Gudelosao, Jorge & Claudia, Rudy Galicia, Jr. Going Back up to Jerusalem 5:30 PM Robert Narloch, Bill Torok, Joel Diaz (4th Sunday of Lent: 2 Chronicles Sunday, March 14 36:14-23; Ephesians 2:4-10; John 7:30 AM All Our Parishioners 3:14-21) 9:30 AM Patrick Michael Davis, Frank & Carlotta Garza, Cyrus, the King of Persia, respected the cultures and Barbara Ferstl – Birthday Blessings religions of the peoples under his rule. But he must have 11:30 AM Frank Descant, Ron Willenborg, Brett & Stephanie Martin received some sort of revelation from the God of Israel, 4:30 PM Nancy J. Soyke, Atia Bourque, George Trejo for he wrote, “All the kingdoms of the earth the Lord [he Monday, March 15 uses the name YHWH], the God of heaven, has given to me.” 6:30 AM JoAnne Mazgaj, Phyllis Williams, Rudy Galicia, Jr. He authorizes the Jewish exiles throughout his vast 8:30 AM Alejandro Bunao, Jr., James Tevis, kingdom to return, that is, to go up to Jerusalem. Living & Departed Loved Ones of Ben & Beth Drone Today’s Psalm reflects the time of exile, and shows how Tuesday, March 16 precious Jerusalem was to God’s people. 6:30 AM Rudy Galicia, Jr., Martin Gately, Holy Souls in Purgatory Going back up to Jerusalem is a wonderfully apt image 8:30 AM Bernard Severino, Vincent Smith, Luis Correa Ibanez of Lent. Going implies a goal. Going back means Wednesday, March 17 conversion. Going up suggests struggle. Lent is all of 6:30 AM Rudy Galicia, Jr., Luisa Gudelosao these. 6:30 PM Daniel Jansky, Bella Grace Woodrum, Ernest Heeb Let us begin with the notion of struggle. One of the Thursday, March 18 greatest gifts God has given us is free will, which we 6:30 AM Rudy Galicia, Jr. rightly defend for ourselves and others. But St. Paul 8:30 PM Edgar & Mechtilde Hartmann, reminds us today that we are God’s handiwork, “created Millie Talley – Birthday Blessings, in Christ for the good works that God has Living & Deceased Family Members of Vinnie Soccomanno prepared in advance, that we should live in them.” Accommodating our will to the divine will comes at a Friday, March 19 certain cost. 6:30 AM William Vasen, Rudy Galicia, Jr., Jarryd Morton Returning, in the language of Lent, is a turning back to 8:30 AM Joseph Leba, Nguyen Family, Marilyn Karam our Savior. A single example from Scripture will serve: “I Saturday, March 20 have brushed away your offenses like a cloud, your sins 8:30 AM Rudy Galicia, Jr., like a mist; return to me, for I have redeemed Living & Deceased Members of Gautreaux Family you” (Isaiah 44:22). 5:30 PM Dan Foster, Tony Diotalevi, The goal, finally, is not a place, or a work. It is the time— Living & Deceased Loved Ones of Clint & Dottie Carlin long ago or recent—when we were most aware of the truth enunciated in today’s Gospel: “God so loved the Sunday, March 21 world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who 7:30 AM Carolyn “Katy” Ray, Williams & Wiltz Families, believes in him might not perish but might have eternal Victor Nicholson life.” Rediscovering this for ourselves, would we not want 9:30 AM All Our Parishioners everybody in our life to know this? 11:30 AM Erna Bartol, Leo Braun, Antoinette Falta Helton The message of La Salette contains all these elements. 4:30 PM Terry Kern, Nancy J. Soyke, George Trejo Some of it is hard to understand and accept. It is a call to turn back to God. It proposes a general goal, and a more specific one as well. As La Salette Laity, Sisters and Missionaries, might we not find the “good work that God has prepared for us” in Mary’s words: “Make This Message Known”? Mass Intentions

ELEMENTARY FAITH FORMATION 281-482-1391

When children ask, “Why do we have to go to Mass?”

• God asks us to make one day holy. God asks us to set aside one day to refocus physically, mentally and spiritually.

• Jesus gives us the gift of himself. When we go to Mass, we are doing what Jesus commanded his followers to do.

• We need to be part of a community. When we come together at Mass to pray and worship God, we fulfil a deep need inside of us to be in com- munion with others.

• God has a special message for us. When we listen to the readings, the homily, and the prayers of the Mass, God speaks to us in a special way.

• We need to talk to God. When we go to Mass, we speak to God through our singing, our com- Safe Environment: CMGConnect Safe Haven The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston has a new Safe munal responses and prayers, and our personal Environment Program, CMGConnect Safe Haven.
