BPTC

LawCareers.net, Lawyer2b – LawCareers.net reports that the Bar Standards Board (BSB) has included a new proposal from the Council of the Inns of Court (COIC) and the Bar Council in its Future Training of the Bar consultation. The Bar Council and the Council of the Inns of Court (COIC) have proposed splitting the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) into two parts, with law school attendance compulsory for only the second half.

Lawyer2b reports that the University of Law has launched a Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) with a Master’s degree attached.

The BPTC LLM will be the same length as the no-frills BPTC, and will be on offer from next September at the law school’s Leeds, Birmingham and London Bloomsbury branches. Students will still be able to take the ‘traditional’ BPTC, but ULaw says the LLM add-on will include “enhanced real-life advocacy training and first-hand experience on legal cases.”

First Indian woman barrister in the UK

Asian Voice – Asian Voice reports that while Cornelia Sorabji has been hailed for her contributions in the legal field as a female Indian barrister in the UK, in early 1920s, she wasn’t the first female Indian barrister. In fact it was Mithan Tata who in January 1923 became the first woman called to the bar and the first practising Indian woman barrister. Sorabji followed in June 1923.

The article provides an insight into their careers.
