HM5 transfer from IS-34 to

SES-14

1. Introduction

SES-14, launched on 26 January 2018 by , has replaced SES's NSS-806 from September 2018 at 47.5 degrees west.

Eurovision Media Services (EMS) is now using this new satellite to distribute sports events and news content over the Americas.

The Hypermux 5 (HM5) is a full time multiplex platform allowing distribution of Sport events and News contents to American Broadcasters, currently on IS-34 transponder AE01C. EMS will move this multiplex platform from IS-34 (55.5 W) to SES-14 by 31 December 2018.

2. SES-14 transponder HEL-19/HER-19

The new HM5 platform will be hosted on transponder HEL-19/HER-19 (79 MHz).

Please find below the technical parameters of the transponder. It is worth noting that this transponder operates on circular polarisation.

Antennas equipped by a tracking system will have to be adapted to the beacon frequencies shown below (modulated carrier):

3. Hypermux 5 (HM5) satellite transfer details

The Hypermux 5 (HM5) is a full time multiplex platform allowing distribution of Sport events and News contents to American Broadcasters, currently on IS-34 transponder AE01C.

The Hypermux 5 (HM5) will be available from 17th October 2018 on SES-14 transponder HEL- 19/HER-19.

From 17th October to 31st December 2018, the receiving broadcasters will have the opportunity to adjust the receiving chains and test the reception from SES-14: in order to receive the HM5 signal, each receiving broadcaster will need to have a C-Band antenna pointed at 47.5 degree west able to receive circular polarisation. The minimum recommended dish size to receive SES-14 is shown in Section 4.

Hypermux 5 (HM5) will terminate on 34 transponder AE01C on 31st December 2018 2359 GMT.

From 1st January 2019 00 GMT, the HM5 will be operational only on SES-14 transponder HEL-19/HER-19.

Please note that the migration of the Hypermux involves a change of polarisation. Takers are therefore required to verify that their infrastructure is compatible.

The configuration of HM5 on SES-14 will be the following:

SES-14 txp HEL-19/HER-19 configuration Downlink frequency [MHz] 4156.5 Downlink Polarisation Circular Right Hand ASI interface bitrate [Mbps] 155.0 Modulation NS4 16APSK FEC (BCH+LDPC) 17/30 Pilot ON Frame Normal Roll-off [%] 10 NLC mode OFF Symbol Rate [MSps] 70.0 Occupied Bandwidth [MHz] 77.0

Please note that the Transport Stream will be encrypted (as for IS-34) with the HMCrypt system. The schedule for HM5 transfer is summarised in the table below:

Date Start of simulcast period: HM5 will be available 17 October 2018, 00:00 GMT on both IS-34 and SES-14 17 October 2018 – 31 December 2018 HM5 available on both IS-34 and SES-14 31 December 2018, 23.59 GMT HM5 termination on IS-34 From 1 January 2019, 00:00 GMT HM5 will be available only on SES-14

To receive the services from HM5, takers require:  Novelsat NS2000 demodulators with firmware version 6.1  NS4 license

Please see Annex 1 for Eurovision HM5 reception checklist. Broadcasters are invited to contact the relevant manufacturers to purchase the adequate equipment directly and to communicate to Eurovision their S/N.

 Eurovision may also be able to assist broadcasters to procure new Novelsat demodulators. Should you wish to order the required demodulators directly from Eurovision, please contact Eurovision Bookings on the e-mail address below.

ANNEX 1 CHECKLIST FOR EUROVISION HM5 RECEPTION

To correctly receive the encrypted Eurovision HM5:

a) The firmware version should be 6.1 as shown below - check under the menu System>HW/SW version

If version is 5.7, the unit must be upgraded to 6.1

If version is lower than 5.7, the unit must be upgraded first to 5.7; then 6.1. For questions, please contact [email protected]

b) Verify that demodulators have an NS4 and DRM(EBU) license as shown below - check under System>License

If the demodulator does not have the licenses highlighted above, please contact [email protected] (if your unit was provided by EBU/Eurovision) or [email protected] if your unit was purchased from Novelsat directly or a third party.

In either case, please specify your demodulator serial number(s) and which licenses are needed (DRM, NS4 or both). The demodulator serial number is in the S/N field as shown below in the System > SW/HW versions

c) Verify the demodulator is locked on Hypermux

Verify reception parameters in the demodulator config > Line (see Appendix 1):

demodulator config > channel 1

demodulator config > MGMT channel

demodulator config > interface > ASI > ASI-A

These parameters should give you a lock on the Hypermux. Verify this on the menu monitor > line which should show a lock like shown in the picture below

d) If you have completed these steps and are locked on the Hypermux, please send a message to [email protected] with your company name and a request to send .gpg and aes keys These keys are required to decrypt the multiplex.

Always communicate your devices’ S/N (serial number) in your e-mail. The S/N can be found under System > HW/SW versions as shown below:

e) Verify the AES and GPG keys have been received by your demodulators in the Monitor > DRM

Please verify :

. Taker ID is a number, not zero ( 0 ) . A file .GPG is in DRM Private Key File Name . A file .AES is in DRM AES Key File Names

Please contact [email protected] if you do not receive the keys.
