Sie wurde mir von Prof Dr. K. METZ übertragen, und es ist mir ein besonderes Anliegen, ihm an dieser Stelle für seine Anteilnahme und für seine Unterstützung auf­ richtig zu danken. Bearbeitet wurde das Gebiet W dler Predlstöriung W GauerstaU, W. St. Veit a. d. Glan .Die Nordigrenze verläuft über denl Schneebauer- berg am Kamm nach Hoch-St. Paul und zum Hocheek im W. Die Süd­ grenze bildet die Glan. Die besonders auf den Hochflächen sehr ungünstigen Aufschlußverhält­ nisse zwangen zu einem engen BegeihuingHnetz. Günstige Aufschlüsse sind nur im Bereich junger Störungen zu finden», denen die tiefengeschnittenen Bäche folgen. Die Kartierung wurdle vom weniger metamorphen Gebiet im S aus­ gehend nach N vorgetragen. Dabei koninten die Metiamorphosevearhältnisse verfolgt und im Bereich St. Paul—Hocheck interessante tektondsche Be­ obachtungen festgestellt werten. Die aufgesammelten HaindBtück© und die dazugehörigen Dünnschliffe befinden sich in der Sammlung des Geol.-Pal.

Primarily through loans to build up the economy and diplomatic pressure, the United States and Great Britain helped to maintain an independent Austrian state and prevent an Anschluss or union with Germany from 1918 to 1934. In addition, this study examines the minority of Austrians who opposed an Anschluss . The three main groups of Austrians that supported independence were the Christian Social Party, monarchists, and some industries and industrialists. These Austrian nationalists cooperated with the Americans and British in sustaining an unwilling Austrian nation. Ultimately, the global depression weakened American and British capacity to practice dollar and pound diplomacy, and the popular appeal of Hitler combined with Nazi Germany’s aggression led to the realization of the Anschluss .

    SPRAWY NARODOWOŚCIOWE Seria nowa / naTiOnaliTIES AFFairs New series, 48/2016: 85–105 DOI: 10.11649/sn.2016.006 Maria isabella reinhard “an isOlaTed Case”*: The slOvene CarinThians and The 1920 PlebisCiTe absTraCT The end of WWI saw the dissolution of the multiethnic Cen- tral European Empires and the formation of new states based on Woodrow Wilson’s concept of national self-determination. This article underlines the limitations of Wilsonian national self-determination, focusing on the Slovene Carinthians and the pro-Austrian result of the 1920 plebiscite. The outcome of the plebiscite exemplifies that minorities are motivated by more than solely ethno-linguistic reasons when deciding what state to belong to. Even though other factors existed, the key motivations for Slovene Carinthians to remain with Austria were of economic and political nature. Additionally the phrasing of the plebiscite made Slovene Car- inthians’ decision a question of state preference rather than ethno-linguistic identity. Moreover, the unpleasant occupation of parts of Carinthia by the troops of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes and the higher effectiveness of Austri- an propaganda played a key role in the vote of many Slovene Carinthians. In the region of Ebenthal – southeast of Klagenfurt – the original river type belonged to the barbel region with a total of 31 fish species, an epipotamal character and meandering morphology. In 1992 a river section of about 300 m length was restructured in the vicinity of Eben- thal. The total expense of rd. 45.000 € was financed by means of the local government as ecological sanitation. The former straight course of the river was given more space and thereby river banks, as well as riffles and pools could develop. As a consequence, the number of fish species increased from 7 to 17, the abundance of fish multiplied by a factor of ten and the bio- mass doubled. According to a proposal for the assessment of the ecological status in the water frame- work directive, the good ecological status could be achieved with respect to criteria for fish ecology.
