  • First Edition
First Edition Background: In an effort to enhance the student reflection experience in our campus wellness clinics, staff initiated a monthly blogging activity during this school year. Students were tasked with creating one blog per month on pre-determined professional workplace skills topic. Students were trained on how to create an effective blog, as well as, how to respond to a blog entry. Students wrote blogs after the second clinic of each month. Staff selected a winning entry from each program clinic and students then responded to the winning entries after the fourth clinic of each month. An awards certificate and award were handed out each month to the winning entries. Why Student Blogging: • Allows students to express and hone their creativity • Promotes academic integration in Career and Technical Education courses • Regular writing sharpens the brain ’s performance • Promotes expression of self • Boosts student confidence • Improves communication skills Student Outcomes: • Students gained “know-how ” that can enrich and benefit their clinic experience • Students were able to speak their mind • Students expressed “finding themselves ” and “finally understanding ” when reading or writing blog entries • Winning entries received constructive feedback from student peers • Blogging allowed students to develop unique content and express their clinic experience perspective to others Please enjoy reading our student blog entries on their CAVIT wellness clini c experiences! We Smile Together Here at CAVIT ☺☺☺ The word together symbolizes a group effort, here at CAVIT we work together to get things done efficiently. During our CAVIT dental clinic's we get things done together, we are not only a team that improves each other’s weaknesses; we are a family, "The Dental Family.” The Dental family helps each other out during clinics with simple things like getting a tray ready for a patient.

Nielsen Music has also had an amazing, transformative year. Technological advancements and new partnerships have allowed us to provide robust, comprehensive data in more accessible, customizable and useful ways in 2017. Over the past year, we received a record number of requests for Nielsen Music research and insight reports. Welcome to the Nielsen Music Year-End Report, which examines the trends that shaped the Paul Shaver Canadian music industry in 2017 with definitive consumption figures and charts. Vice President/ Head of Nielsen Music Canada Overall consumption of albums, songs and On-Demand Audio streaming grew 13.6% year-over- year. On-Demand Audio streaming offset decreases in track and album sales and, on December 3, for the first time in history, it surpassed the 900 million per week mark. Ed Sheeran led all artists in Canada with overall consumption and had the top-selling album of the year. Six Canadians had No. 1 albums on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart in 2017, including The Weeknd’s Starboy, Drake’s More Life, Arcade Fire’s Everything Now, Shania Twain’s Now, Pierre Lapointe’s La Science Du Coeur and Gord Downie’s Introduce Yerself. Since 2011, the Writing Program conducted travel-based exchanges in partnership with the Deutsches Literaturinstitut Leipzig in Leipzig, Germany; the Scuola Holden in Turin, Italy; the Institut Ramon Llull and Universitat Pompeu Fabra–IDEC in Barcelona, Catalonia (Spain); the Columbia Global Center | Middle East in Amman, Jordan; Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C.; and the University of the Arts Helsinki in Helsinki, Finland. Starting in 2016, the Word for Word program expanded to include a collaborative translation workshop running parallel to the exchanges, in which Writing Program students, over the course of one semester, translate work by their partners at some of these same institutions – the Deutsches Literaturinstitut Leipzig and Scuola Holden–as well as some new ones: Université Paris 8 in Paris, France; New York University’s Creative Writing in Spanish MFA Program; and the Instituto Vera Cruz in São Paulo, Brazil.

F: +44 (0) 20 7955 7730 LONDON SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS AND POLITICAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC HISTORY WORKING PAPERS NO. 266 – AUGUST 2017 Great divergence, consumer revolution and the reorganization of textile markets: Evidence from Hamburg’s import trade, eighteenth century Ulrich Pfister Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster Email: [email protected] Abstract The study combines information on some 180,000 import declarations for 36 years in 1733–1798 with published prices for forty-odd commodities to produce aggregate and commodity specific estimates of import quantities in Hamburg’s overseas trade. In order to explain the trajectory of imports of specific commodities estimates of simple import demand functions are carried out. Since Hamburg constituted the principal German sea port already at that time, information on its imports can be used to derive tentative statements on the aggregate evolution of Germany’s foreign trade. The main results are as follows: Import quantities grew at an average rate of at least 0.7 per cent between 1736 and 1794, which is a bit faster than the increase of population and GDP, implying an increase in openness. Relative import prices did not fall, which suggests that innovations in transport technology and improvement of business practices played no role in overseas trade growth.
