A big Yorkshire welcome to the Cheshire RFU . Officiais, Players and Support~rs for this second County Championship match of the Season, under the Kirkstall lights. There is always something about the County Championship in the Northern Counties whi ch makes us ail real ise that the new Season is really with us. It is for LIS ail to aim to keep the Chamionship alive and kicking. After ail, the Championship in the North puts six times as many players on view to se lectors than one Oi visional XV. Our great game is for PLAYERS and about PLAYERS and Clubs shou ld give them the chance to go to the highest leve l of their ability and talent. A il our sincere thanks go to the players on the field t onight for their dec ision to play for the ir Counties and to the officiais of the Clubs who have supported thei r decision. We look forward to an entertainin g game, made possible by the service to the Game of the Referee and Touch Judges. On behalf of the Yorkshire RFU ., thank vou Headingley for staging the match and for the provision of the hospitality afterwards. And to the spectators, your support is appreciated and welcomed. Withou t vou there wou Id be no atmosphere for the players and no encouragement from the 'side lin es'. Finally, 1 am sure that Vou wi ll ail jaïn me in congratulations to Geoff Cooke, newly appointed as the Rugby Football Union Team Manage r. After ail the fin e work he has done for Yorkshire and the North Divisio n, 1 am certain that, given his head and the availab il ity of cl ass players, he wi ll do the same for England . We wïsh him weil in his task. Geoffrey Lee. ~ Presid ent: Yorkshire RFU . TOSHIBA COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP 1987-88 HOW ITWORKS Each of the four Divisions wi ll produce its winner in its own way . For the North that means each County plays the others once on a league basis. The regulations provide that there will be no replays. ln the eve nt of two Counties having ar. equal number of points at the top o f the league, then the County with the greatest difference between points scored for and agai nst w ill go forwa rd . In the event of the two Counties having the sa me point difference, then the side scoring most tries will be the w inners and if they are sti ll , \ 1ual the side sco ring most goals from tries and then the Count y whi ch has scored. most points. Finally, places w ill be determined upon the result between the twol Counties in contention. - The semi-finals wi ll be played on Saturday the 12th March 1988 and the F ~ 1 a1 on the 9th April, at Twickenham. LANCASHIRE COUNTY RUGBY FOOTBALL UNION ANNUAL REPORT 2017-18 THE SECRETARY’S OPENING REMARKS Firstly I have to thank the President, Steve Blackburn. Steve has done tremendous work over the year in travelling around clubs and representing the County. A truly approachable gentleman who has brought his own distinct sense of humour to the office. A lot of my Monday mornings have included a phone call from Steve starting with the phrase “I think I may have got away with it but……”. Needless to say the tales have me in stitches. As well as his Presidential duties he is an active member of the Disciplinary and Club & Community Committees which means he’s constantly on the go with his County missionary work. Steve has the huge support of his wife Val, who is also involved on the Mini & Junior committee. A couple entrenched in rugby and its administration, thank you both. To Rugby matters, Our Senior XV have reached the final and other reports in this booklet will cover how they got there, at the time of printing we are in the run up to the final at Twickenham against Hertfordshire whom we were runners up to in the final of the 2011-2012 season. Thanks to Mark Nelson, Steve Rigby, John Greenwood and all the backroom team, along with players who give up their time at the end of very busy seasons to support senior Rugby in Lancashire. Its an absolute joy to be involved in this side of County rugby and one which I look forward to each season.

We in Yorkshire are very proud of our County Championship record over the years and 1 am sure that every player who has turned out for us this season has had one goal in mind; to add another championship title to our account. Little did we know, way back in Oetober, when we met on that foui Autumnal night at Sandal that we would be meeting in the Spring to decide which County will go to Twickenham! The prize of running out on that turf will be enough to ensure that we are about to witness a close, keenly fought, Championship semi-final today.

Having been in the fortunate position to have visited many Clubs in an official capacity (referee) it will give me great pleasure to visit on a more informal basis, hoping to assist any Club that can utilise the County’s help and support.

LANCASHIRE COUNTY RUGBY FOOTBALL UNION ANNUAL REPORT 2018-19 THE SECRETARY’S OPENING REMARKS As ever my first job is to thank our President for the great work he has done this season. Dave Clarke has been unfailing in his club visits and is a true supporter of Rugby. He has been instrumental in the formation of the ADM Lancashire Leagues which has helped many of our clubs play more local matches. This has seen a number of players staying within the game. With the frequency of his more than daily telephone calls to discuss some issue in the game my children now do a very good impression of the Ginger Ninja from Wigan. Both Dave and myself are indebted to Mrs President, Anne. As well as being his secretary, Anne has deputised for me in meetings and acted as the minutes secretary in our general meetings. Thank you both. To Rugby, both our Senior Mens and Womens XVs failed to reach their finals which was not for want of trying, all our representative players should be thanks for the effort they put in to pulling on the Red & White hoops at the end of a long tiring club season. We will be back. Thanks to Mark Nelson, Steve Rigby, John Greenwood and all the backroom team who work hard to provide these opportunities. Our 20s team did make their day out in Twickenham where they went down to a very strong Yorkshire team, I’m sure we will be seeing more of these lads progressing through to our Senior XV and more success in County Rugby.

LANCASHIRE COUNTY RUGBY FOOTBALL UNION ANNUAL REPORT 2016-17 THE SECRETARY’S OPENING REMARKS As ever my first task in my report is to thank the outgoing president, Tom Fitzgerald. I have worked closely with Tom for many years and have only the highest respect for him and the professionalism he conducts County business with. Tom has been the cornerstone of the day to day running of rugby in this County and has been instrumental in the formulation of new initiatives that have put us in a position where a lot of our work is seen as best practice. These include our Academy, Coach mentoring schemes and training conferences. With his close contacts and networks he has managed to secure some great players and leaders to deliver these schemes. Having spoken to Tom I know how much over and above his regular volunteering work the office of President involves, with over 150 club visits and official engagements with many thousands of miles covered. Tom is greatly supported by his wife Angela, both of whom I consider tireless supporters of this County and I am extremely pleased to class them as the closest of personal friends. To Rugby matters, Our Senior XV have reached the final and other reports in this booklet will cover how they got there, at the time of printing we are in the run up to the final at Twickenham against Cornwall whom we expect to be strong with very vocal support. Thanks to Mark Nelson, Steve Rigby, John Greenwood and all the backroom team, along with players who give up their time at the end of very busy seasons to support senior Rugby in Lancashire.
