16-19 Full-Time Education Options 16-19 Full-time Education options September 2017 entry 2 The following list of government-funded providers of full-time post-16 education is divided into four sections, according to type: School Sixth Forms are part of schools that also provide education for students up to Year 11. Some schools co-operate to run a joint sixth form centre. They mostly offer A level studies, but some also offer a few vocational courses, like BTEC. They usually give priority to students who are progressing internally, so places for students applying from other schools could be limited. School Sixth Forms are more likely to have a uniform or dress code than other places of study. Sixth Form Colleges and 16-19 Schools specialise in education for 16 -19 year olds and take students from a lot of different schools (though some will give priority to students from the local area). Sixth Form Colleges usually offer a combination of A levels and a wide range of vocational courses, like BTEC. Some 16-19 Schools are similar to school sixth forms in curriculum and learning environment, others are more like sixth form colleges; a few specialise in a vocational area. University Technical Colleges (UTCs) and Studio Schools are for students between the ages of 14 and 19 and are often based in existing schools or colleges. Priority for places on post-16 courses may be given to students progressing from linked schools. UTCs specialise in subjects that need modern, technical, industry-standard equipment. Studio Schools often have a vocational specialism, and focus on employability skills and a core of academic qualifications, delivered in a practical and project-based way. Hours spent studying on site are usually longer than in other colleges or sixth forms. Further Education (FE) Colleges provide courses for students of all ages, including many part-time courses. Some have separate classes or even a separate site for 16 -19 year olds. Most of the courses they offer are job-related, like BTECs and more specific skills-based courses that start to qualify you for a job: examples include Hairdressing, beauty therapy, legal executive, accounting and motor vehicle repair. Some specialise in courses for a particular work sector and a few offer A level studies. NOTE: Due to the limited amount of space available, it has not been possible to provide a complete list of providers within travelling distance. All the current providers in Newham and Waltham Forest, the most popular schools and colleges in surrounding areas and some specialist providers elsewhere have been included. Details of some other providers can be found on the website www.ucasprogress.com/search Make sure you research journey times and costs as part of your decision about where to study 15billionebp/ version 3/ March 2017 3 Places to study in Newham School Sixth Forms Sixth Form Colleges University Technical Colleges (UTCs) Further Education (FE) Colleges and 16-19 Schools and Studio Schools Brampton Manor Academy NewVIc London Design & Engineering UTC Newham College of FE Chobham Academy Newham Collegiate Sixth Form The Building Crafts College St Angela’s Sixth Form London Academy of Excellence St Bonaventure’s Sixth Form School 21 Brampton Manor Academy Roman Road , East Ham, London, E6 3SQ 020 7540 0500 / bramptonmanor.org [email protected] Chobham Academy 40 Cheering Lane, London. • Seven Kings Teaching School Alliance Have High Aspirations and Shared Values Who Believe That Collectively, Learning Together, We Are Stronger
‘Cradle to Grave’ Professional Learning Programmes 2020-21 “Building a culture where professional learning is at the heart is shown to be highly effective. Colleagues within schools or groups of schools where professional learning is embedded and is responsive are likely to flourish thereby enabling students to thrive.” (David Weston, Unleashing Great Teaching) Welcome to the Cradle to Grave Professional Learning Programmes for 2020-21. After the extraordinary times of 2020, some aspects of educational professional learning may have been changed forever. Instead of gathering together in conference rooms and school halls, teachers have met online via Zoom and shared their expertise via Loom, whist teaching their students in Google Classroom. The lessons in resilience, communication and the heart of what’s really important in our schools learned from the challenges of remote education during Covid 19, will be carried with us as we approach the new academic year and reconnect with our children, our colleagues and our Alliance community. At the heart of the work of the Alliance are our co-constructed Vision and Protocols: ‘The schools and institutions which have come together to form the Seven Kings Teaching School Alliance have high aspirations and shared values who believe that collectively, learning together, we are stronger. As an Alliance of learning communities we trust in each other to challenge and support each other; we are relentless in our pursuit to ensure outstanding outcomes for all our children and to nurture a culture of a love of learning. As an Alliance we commit to leading innovative networks, building capacity through a belief that all teachers are leaders and can improve and succeed so that all of our children and the wider community we serve have access to the very best education and outcomes.

  • The Industrial and Community Heritage of Silvertown and North Woolwich Introduction
The industrial and community heritage of Silvertown and North Woolwich Introduction The Islanders is a project that aims to preserve the industrial and community heritage of Silvertown and North Woolwich. It is supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Royal Docks Team. Volunteers and local participants have contributed significantly to the project. Thames Festival Trust thanks Newham Archives (The Islanders’ Heritage Partner), London Metropolitan Archives and Eastside Community Heritage. In the nineteenth century, London’s eastern boundary was at Bow Creek, where its noxious industries began to congregate. From shipbuilding, to silver, iron, oils, soap, rubber and manure, London’s industry was developing on the fringes of the city. By the completion of the Albert Dock in 1880, Silvertown and North Woolwich had effectively become an ‘island’. It was bordered by the Thames to the south, and by the Royal Docks and its lock entrances to the north, east and west, the only way in or out was by bridge, ferry or tunnel. Learn more: To find out more, scan the QR codes on your smart phone to follow the growth and hear the stories of this ‘island’ community through the generations. September 2021 Left: Goad Fire Insurance Plan, May 1900 (The British Library) 3 The origins Prior to the nineteenth century, Silvertown and North Woolwich was an uninhabited marshland called Plaistow Level used for grazing cattle, and frequented by smugglers, prize fighters, and high tide flooding, sat between Bow Creek and Gallions Reach. In the 1840s, the area was sold cheaply at an ‘agricultural price’ to a consortium of developers.

  • Secondary School Admissions Appeal Guidance Notes
Secondary school admissions Appeal guidance notes Some helpful information for Parents/Carers This leaflet has been published by the London Borough of Redbridge, Children’s Services. It is designed to help parents of children transferring to secondary school who have not yet been offered their preferred school. Parents/Carers are advised that this Authority follows the current Department for Education (DfE) advice which, at the time this leaflet was prepared, reflects the School admissions codes and regulations, details of which can be found on its website: www.education.gov.uk Contact: Admissions and Awards Team - [email protected] Contents Page 1 Introduction Page 2 Some Basic Information Page 3 Arrangements for the Appeal Hearing Page 6 At the Appeal Page 7 Making Your Case Page 7 Reaching a Decision Page 8 After the Appeal Introduction Choosing your child’s secondary school can be a difficult decision for you to make. In Redbridge most parents and carers get a place for their child at one of the schools they have applied for. If you do not get the school you want, you can appeal for a place on statutory grounds (unless your child has been permanently excluded from two schools). This leaflet is to help you understand the process and answers some common questions. Schools which are responsible for their own admissions (as ‘admission authorities’), deal with their own appeals. You should write to these schools direct for information about their appeal process. The only exceptions are Beal High School*and Loxford School Trust* which both became an academy in February 2014 – appeals will be arranged and progressed by Redbridge Admissions Team only, not the academy schools themselves, for both these schools.

  • Impact Assessment
Title: Aldborough E-ACT Free School Author: Department for Education (DfE) Annex A – Section 9 Impact Assessment General summary Current local authority projections indicate that for September 2011 there will be a deficit of two primary forms of entry rising to six in 2012/13 and 11 in 2013/14 across the whole of the authority. The local authority has been supportive of the development of the new school which helps them address this increasing basic need for places. The proposed free school will be 2FE which is suitable for the level of demand in 2011, and the increasing demand should mean that the school is well attended without having to take pupils away from surrounding schools. The Free School will be co-educational so will increase provision for male and female children equally. It will also have no religious designation and a secular ethos so will be equally open to children of all faiths and no faith. A more detailed analysis of the free school’s surrounding schools is given below. Analysis There are 32 primary schools (shown as blue markers on the map below) within approximately a 2 mile radius of EACT Redbridge Primary School’s proposed site (the red marker). We anticipate most pupils to be drawn from an area served by the five closest primary schools (all within 1 mile of the school, see list below) and it was parents on the waiting list for these schools that the local authority have written to soliciting formal applications. 1 The five nearest schools, within approximately 1km of the free school (the red marker) are shown below: They are: 1.

  • Introduction
25092017 Introduction This document sets out the Council’s plan for dealing with issues arising from cold weather in the winter season. Method employed to alleviate and mitigate winter conditions on Roads in Redbridge; Standard of service we aim to provide; Chain of responsibility; Procedures to ensure effective response. The document is to be updated annually to take in to account changes to legislation, public demand and highway conditions generally. 1. Winter Maintenance Service 1 2. Winter Service Procedure 2 3. Policy Statement 3 4. Organisation and Responsibilities 4 5. List of Appendices 5 1. Winter Maintenance Service Greater care than normal is always required when driving in hazardous conditions, particularly in temperatures that may freeze wet road surfaces. Highway Authorities in England and Wales have a statutory duty under Section 150 of The Highways Act to remove snow from the highway. The Railways and Transport Safety Act 2003 added an addition to the Highways Act 1980 Section 41 which placed a duty on a highway authority to ensure so far as reasonably practicable that safe passage along a highway is not endangered by snow or ice. People often wake up to a severe frost, scrape ice off their car and are then surprised to find that the roads have not been salted. This is because action is taken on the road temperature being at or below freezing rather than the air temperature. Roads retain heat and do not cool down nearly as quickly as objects such as cars, therefore frost on a car can be a misleading guide to whether salting is needed on the road.
