    www.btc.ac.uk TAUNTON CAMPUS TRAVELLING BY BUS TO COLLEGE INFORMATION & TIMETABLES From September 2018 TRAVELLING BY BUS TO COLLEGE All buses providing routes to the Taunton campus are public service buses. Please note this timetable is not exclusive of all services that operate in and around Taunton, therefore for further and up to date information please visit www.traveline.info As such timetables and rules of carriage for public transport apply at all times. In addition to students from the College, fare paying members of the public will use the same buses. Like any other passenger, any student using a bus is required to have a valid ticket for each journey. WHICH PASS? 1. College students can chose to purchase a ticket and pay the driver for each journey or; 2. Make use of any special tickets issued by individual bus operators or; 3. Purchase the Somerset County Council County Ticket (Love the Bus). Careful research and planning is required to ensure the chosen ticket provides the best value for money for each individual student. This will depend on, for example, the number of journeys a student will make each week, location of work placement, availability of public transport at other times. The Somerset County Ticket allows unlimited use within Somerset from 1st September to 31st August, the pass needs to be ordered in advance to gain maximum value. Whilst it is possible to order a pass during term time, once term has started students will need to purchase a bus ticket for each journey while waiting for the pass application to be processed by Somerset County Council, this can take up to 2 weeks during busy times.

    V&A acquires the Glastonbury Festival Archive The V&A is delighted to announce a collaboration with Glastonbury Festival to create an archive reflecting more than 40 years of diverse and creative performance. Glastonbury Festival is the longest-running popular music and performing arts festival in the world. Set up in 1970 by Michael Eavis on Worthy Farm in Pilton, Somerset – the Eavis’s family farm for four generations - the Festival is now attended by around 175,000 people annually. It has a long and unique history of hosting music, dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret and other arts and collaborating with artists, set designers and craftspeople. Many distinguished names have performed at the summer festival over the last four decades including Beyoncé, Bjork, Blondie, Marc Bolan, Coldplay, The Cure, Jay-Z, Paul McCartney, Van Morrison, New Order, Oasis, Radiohead, The Rolling Stones, Toots and the Maytals, Velvet Underground and Amy Winehouse. This eclectic archive includes a range of material, from programmes and posters from every festival since 1970, designs for the Festival identity, interviews, unseen film and photographs, correspondence, t-shirts, tickets and other memorabilia. Personal accounts and documents trace the origins of the Festival and festival maps reveal how it has grown and developed within the landscape. Press cuttings document the relationship of the Festival with the local community and stories that captured the nation. The working processes of the Festival will be captured in the archive with original backstage passes, photographs and performers’ set-lists. The archive also includes photographs that reveal the evolution of the legendary Pyramid stage since its creation in 1971 to a permanent stage – also briefly used as a cattle shed in 1981.

Matters Arising Draft Role Descriptions The Chairman has proposed that all draft descriptions and any other relevant material should be forwarded to him as soon as possible so that they can be finalized by a small sub-committee who will hopefully, have them on the website by early April ready to be presented at the AGM in May. The date of the Annual Awards Night for 2019 is 29th November. This was omitted from the January meeting minutes. The Commodore at RNAS Yeovilton has given permission for our events there to go ahead. Our MOD License expires in March and the renewal requires an up to date Risk Assessment, EA Race License, and a copy of UKA Insurance documents. 3. The database makes it possible to order references to an object in many ways including in terms of dedication, location, date, and possible authenticity, and it makes data available to derive some history of the object in order to assess the reliability of the information it presents.

Project update The A303 Sparkford to Ilchester Dualling scheme entered the decision period of the Development Consent Order (DCO) planning process on 12 September. This means the examination phase is now over. The Planning Inspectorate has written its report for the Secretary of State for Transport, which includes a recommendation on whether to grant or refuse the DCO. This report is only made available to the Secretary of State who now has until 12 December 2019 to decide whether to grant or refuse the application. The decision letter will be published alongside the Recommendation Report on the National Infrastructure Planning website once the announcement is made. If you would like any more information on the DCO process the project is going through, you can find it on the National Infrastructure Planning website, https://infrastructure.planninginspectorate.gov.uk. On a clear day, looking east you can see the dark line of hills marking out Exmoor National Park and if you look in a west south-west direction you can even spot the Bristol Channel glistening in the distance. As our eyes pan across the view they rest on a perfectly rounded knoll with a short tower on top. This is Glastonbury Tor. Claimed as the site of the legendary Vale of Avalon and the final resting place of King Arthur, the tor rises up above the flat land surrounding it and is visible for miles around. Why does the mystical Glastonbury Tor rise up out of the surrounding lowlands? First of all look straight ahead and in the middle distance you’ll see three hills which punctuate the flat landscape. From left to right they are Hay Hill, Ben Knowle Hill and Yarley Hill, part of a low ridge just south of the River Axe. Surrounding these hills the Somerset Levels are an area of low-lying farmland. The lowest point is just 0.2 metres above sea level.
