Boulder Junction, located in the heart of the Northern-Highland American Legion State Forest, has 7 maintained hiking trails with an additional 42 trails throughout Vilas County. These variety of trails wind their way through woodlands and along lakes and rivers, affording hikers scenic views in any season.

Get the app! The “Map It” Vilas County trails app is an easy-to-use app which includes maps for over 60 different silent sports trails. Boulder Junction offers crystal clear lakes and scenic rivers for paddlers. The vast areas of undeveloped wilderness are a playground for paddlers. Kayakers and canoeists will find several excellent no-motor lakes as well as a huge array of secluded, undeveloped lakes and rivers within the Northern Highland- American Legion State Forest. The Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest offers paddlers the opportunity to camp along rivers and lakes at designated canoe campsites. PADDLING There are currently over 70 water sites in the State Forest. The majority of sites are on the Manitowish River and Manitowish Chain of Lakes. A variety of lake sites also exist. All campsites have a picnic table and fire ring. Sites are numbered and marked with yellow signs displaying a tipi. Portages are designated by yellow signs with crossed paddles. #rowrowrowyourboat

HEART OF VILAS BICYCLE TRAIL SYSTEM

10 1-800-GO-MUSKY One of the best ways to explore Boulder Junction is on two wheels and the Heart of Vilas County Paved Bike Trail System offers riders more than 45 miles of paved trails that connect St. Germain, Sayner, Boulder Junction and Manitowish Waters. This spectacular trail winds through the Northern Highland-American Legion Forest and along crystal clear lakes and rivers. Along the trail are many scenic rest areas with picnic spots and restrooms. There are 20 different parking areas to choose where to start your ride. You will also find swimming spots for a quick cool down in the summer months and walking trails if you want a break from biking. There are many options for accommodations on or easily accessible to the trail. From the Heart of Vilas Bike Trail, you can ride right up to a restaurant for a great meal or a quick

This winter, glide your way through the forests of Boulder Junction. Cross-country skiers can choose from some of the best ski trails in the Northwoods. Ski Boulder Junction’s many groomed and tracked trails for the strider and wide flat trails for the skate skier or head to the deep woods for secluded, ungroomed trails.

One of the most scenic and peaceful ways to enjoy the snowy season is snowshoeing through a winter wilderness, whether

that is on a marked trail or by braking your own trail across a SPORTS DUAL - SKI XC frozen lake.

You’ll find lots of great trail options here in Boulder Junction. Refer to the listing on page 8 or download Vilas County’s “Map It!” app for all of the silent sport trials throughout the county.

Boulder Junction offers a remarkable opportunity to enjoy dual sport motorcycle riding in the scenic Northwoods of Wisconsin. GPS guided rides take you deep into the forest on two tracks and forest roads. Visit scenic lakes, observe wildlife, and take in some of the local flair. Each August the Central ADVrider Rally is held in Boulder Junction. This year’s dates are August 3-12. All types and brands of motorcycles are welcomed at this event. Both new and experienced riders of on and off-road cycles are invited. There are no organized rides during this event. Most groups are made and organized by individuals while at the host campground, Camp Holiday.
