DIY Thermaxx Gown How-to guide Tips • Read through all of the instructions first!

• Save an unsewn cutout so that you can trace it onto several in a row to work faster

• You can save material by rotating every other pattern as pictured on the right

• If using a knife or table, you can cut multiple layers at once but make sure to tape or clamp corners well because the material is slippery.

Wash your hands Clean your work surface Gather your supplies Step 2 Unroll Material

Unroll a 6’ section of HomeWrap 4 ½’ x 6’ You will need 54”x70” for the regular size pattern Step 3 Trace pattern

Using tape measure or ruler, draw the pattern provided on following page onto the Tyvek

Note(s): • Pattern is scaled with 1 inch squares and measurements starting from bottom-left Step 4 Cut pattern

Cut along inside edge of straps and cut out thumb holes

Note(s): • Strap width is 1” • Thumb holes are ovals 3” wide by 2” tall Step 5.1 Pause to admire your handywork

Note(s): • To save time – set this one aside and use it to trace several more outlines, cut those out, and then sew them! Step 6 Fold Sleeves over along centerline at 7” (Per Graphic: Red edges to each other, green edges to each other)

Note(s): • Staples or thread should be about 1/8” in from outside edges • Smooth/solid side of staples should face front of gown Step 8 Clean thoroughly with bleach

These gowns are constructed with HomeWrap, a material that has not been evaluated for protection against bloodborne pathogens but does have fluid and particle protection properties similar to that of Tyvek 400 and superior to clothing and patient gowns suggested by the CDC and FDA per crisis capacity strategy recommendations.

Not recommended for use in a surgical setting or where significant exposure to liquid bodily or other hazardous fluids may be expected, or in any clinical setting where the infection risk level is high. The Thermaxx gown is designed to protect from contact with liquids and particles while also providing an additional puncture/tear resistant shield for delicate PPE and clothing worn underneath. The gown consists of a full torso covering with integrated sleeves manufactured using Tyvek HomeWrap, a spun high density material. HomeWrap material is readily available, allowing Thermaxx to transition from insulation production to immediately supplying protective gear for those in need per CDC Crisis Capacity Strategy recommendations.

Material Properties: • Barrier for particles down to 2 microns in size (vs. 1 micron for Tyvek 400, 0.3 for N95 masks) • Basis Weight: 1.8 oz/yd2 (vs. 1.2 for Tyvek 400) • AATCC127 Water Penetration Resistance: 98 in. (vs. 45 in. for Tyvek 400) • Thickness: 5.5 mil (vs. 5.9 for Tyvek 400)
