One of the guards admits that he recognizes him as one of the labourers who helped prepare Wayne Manor for its re-purposing as an asylum. Apparently, he'd finished his work, and never left. Arkham thanks for his work, admitting that there are still four inmates escaped - including Jack Shaw, Batman's under-cover alias. Sybil Silverlock is missing, Victor Fries is hiding somewhere on the grounds, and Seth Wickham never made it to the hospital, after being sent there following the attempted murder on him. Batman determines that Wickham is the priority for now, and worries that the troubled young man will have gone home. By the time he arrives there, the smell from behind the door tells him that he's already too late to protect the boy's family. Sign In Don't have an account? Start a Wiki. Let's see, in this volume we get to see how they turn Wayne into the new . I found that quite interesting, Batman's home is now the home for all the insane criminals. Many that himself has cached. The problem is now that someone is killing the inmates. And you know someone killing killers is really, real I actually thought that I had written a review for this volume. And you know someone killing killers is really, really bad so now Batman must save the inmates lives by posing as an inmate. The art was good; the story was entertaining to read. A decent Batman volume, not the best I read, but certainly not the worst either. I can't really remember anything really special about this one. It's for the moment good kind of read without leaving any big impression behind. I received this copy from the DC Comics through Edelweiss in return for an honest review! Thank you! Jul 28, Sam Quixote rated it did not like it. When Arkham Asylum is destroyed see Batman Eternal Vol 2 , where does the city of end up housing its dangerously disturbed inmates? Wayne Manor of course! It wasn't worth it. However, once the inmates have been transferred over to the newly branded Arkham Manor, someone begins killing them off. Who killed… Some Guy? Who killed… Another Guy? Who cares? Gerry Duggan I thought he was Marvel exclusive? Was adopting a new identity and going undercover the best approach to catching the killer? So why does it take him 6 issues? Really poor stuff. None of the designs — of Jack Shaw, Arkham Manor, or the villain — were particularly memorable and the first time we see his Batman is pretty awful think Lurch from the Addams Family cosplaying as the Dark Knight! A little unusual levity was welcome in this otherwise pedestrian whodunit. View all 8 comments. This was Don't even get me started on the logistics of turning Wayne Manor into Arkham. Don't worry, Bruce poured cement down the stairs leading to the . Artwork was weird but not awful. The thing is, this one is kind of necessary to read since it follows up after what happened in Batman: Eternal, Volume 2. Also, Joker shows up and afaik it's his first actual appearance after Death of the Family. I could be completely wrong but I'm too lazy to check. This reminds This was This reminds me of how important Batman Incorporated was even though it wasn't a "main" title. And this is also why I try to read everything in order so I don't miss something. Sep 14, Steve rated it it was ok Shelves: read-in , sequential-art , early-review-edelweiss. This has got to be the most idiotic premise for a story, and that makes it hard to swallow the rest of the book, but it seemingly only gets worse. puts on some fake hair and makeup and goes undercover to solve some murders in the old family home. Ignoring the senseless premise, what follows is fairly engaging. Undercover Batman teams up with Arkham crazies against some other Arkham crazies before he changes to Regular Batman and takes out a regrettably feral bad guy. I'm wavering between 1 and 2 stars, but I actually enjoyed the book despite the silliness and the fantastically absurd art. I'm going with 2 stars, barely. View 2 comments. Sep 07, Sud rated it liked it Shelves: comics. Arkham Manor is not bad. I know, I know.. By dumbassedry I refer to a retconning of things to fit in with a "new" world view. It rarely works. The idea of Wayne manor being turned into the new Arkham is one of those things. Bruce Wayne with no money apparently he's broke? The story. It's Batman being a detective. I appreciate that. This is a good detective story. As the inmates are being housed in the new Arkham, someone begins to kill them. Batman infiltrates the Asylum as an inmate to find out who. Since the newer stories always have Batman operating at the level of a semi-retarded basket case, in order to justify the addition of a crapload of poor quality to totally shitty new characters that seem to always be part of his team. This one is just him trying to solve this case. I liked Duggan's writing and even enjoyed the thinking behind Batman in combat. That was well done. The story itself is also pretty damn decent. The art? Shawn Crystal isn't awful. But it is not good either. The renderings of Batman verge on him seeming to be anorexic. Some of the scenes are quite fine with this style, others suffer noticeably. Primarily when he shows . Still not a bad little read. I enjoyed it. Perhaps a Vol 2 in the future. Jul 10, Ivy rated it it was amazing Shelves: superheroes , i-own , supervillains , published-in , batman-bat-family , dc-comics. Glad I was able to. Very good comic. Hope Bruce will get his mansion back sometime. Can't wait to read more Batman comics!!!! Jul 21, Chris Lemmerman rated it it was amazing Shelves: comics-and-manga-read. I've since read the first volume of Academy, which was excellent, and am waiting for By Midnight's trade release to see how it compares. But whilst Arkham Manor may have flown under the radar, it definitely deserves to stand above the rest of the pack. Set inside Wayne Manor, now transformed into the new Arkham Asylum after the previous building was destroyed during the events of Batman Eternal, Batman goes undercover inside his own home to try and track down a killer, and of course, all manner pun intended of things go wrong in the six issues he's there, including some tie-ins to Gotham Academy, Endgame, and beyond. It shows a good grasp of continuity that Gerry Duggan is able to weave this story in and out of those other books without compromising them or making this seem like a shameless tie-in book not worth its own merit, which it certainly is. This is a good blend of Batman as his most brutal, and using his best detective skills too. Shawn Crystal and Dave McCaig pencil and colour all six issues so there's a consistent tone throughout the series, and whilst some of Crystal's work is a bit exaggerated, the use of shadows and facial expressions really hammers home the story that Duggan is trying to tell. He even manages to sell the hilarious scene-stealing moments that Mister Freeze has in the last few issues without faltering. Arkham Manor is pretty much everything you'd want from a Batman book, so I'd highly recommend it to anyone enjoying the current Batman titles. I liked it! This is about a time when Bruce Wayne has lost control over his Manor, for the umpteenth time. Now, the city council has taken over the house and is using it to house the criminals and mental patients from Arkham Asylum. Batman's scariest foes locked up in his own house, this already smells like a recipe for disaster! Of course, Batman jumps right in. He creates yet another false persona and goes in as an inmate, to investigate the mysterious deaths of some inmates. The villain is not sc I liked it! The villain is not scary at all, especially when you know that this is a Batman book and he'll prevail in the end. But, I've to give him this much, the villain was kept interesting to the last page. The book didn't feel boring for a moment. And the cameos and teases of other villains were exhilarating! Look out for Border, if you're reading this. The art - here the opinion is subjective. I didn't like it, didn't hate it either. There might be someone who would absolutely love the art in this book. The ending is left open enough to allow a sequel, but that might not be happening because of the DC Rebirth initiative. Overall, a good read. Happy reading! It was published on October 22, Arkham Asylum has been destroyed, and in the aftermath, Mayor Hady has received pushback at every angle in trying to find a home for the re-captured inmates. With few viable options remaining, Hady opts to use the power of eminent domain to force the inmates and patients into Wayne Manor. Batman , meanwhile, is conflicted about it, knowing that finding a home for the Arkhamites was a necessity, but not wanting to mar his family's legacy. Still, he knows his attachment to the manor is a weakness, and accepts this as the best possible outcome from a list of only negative options. He had the choice between letting this change occur - or destroying his legacy, when the manor's rights were taken from him. He chose the more amenable option, closing off the entries to the Batcave with several feet of concrete. Bruce hopes that his father, at least, would understand and approve of his decision - even if Bruce himself doesn't like it. Bruce has since moved into an apartment, where he is still annoyed by the occasional reporter hoping to get him to comment on his family home's transformation into a "loony bin".

The Wayne Manor lies abandoned, so they make the decision to ship the Arkham inmates to Wayne Manor and turn it into the new Arkham. I think it's a brilliant story line that overall, was told well. The facial expressions are really well done, and the pictures do a good job of illustrating the story that the text is telling. I understand that Batman is a dark guy, but I do think the artwork was rather dreary. I obviously don't expect bright prismacolor tones for a Batman story, but it need just a little more pop for my liking. Batman is a familiar character, and gives some pretty good lines over the course of this volume. I also got really happy that Mr. Freeze made an appearance in this. I wasn't expecting that, and it made me enjoy it a bit more. I wish there had been a little more backstory or explanation to elaborate on Arkham's fall and the emptiness of Wayne Manor, so that I could have better context. But overall, this didn't effect my enjoyment of this comic too much. All in all, I'd recommend this comic to fans of Batman. There's a cast of familiar faces with a new twist on the classic plot line, and overall I think it works. I received a copy in exchange for my honest review. This review can also be found on my blog, Bitches n Prose. Jul 27, Jessica Lewenda rated it did not like it Shelves: arc , graphic-novel , 1-star , milking-the-cash-cow , comics , read-in In this series, Wayne Manor has been turned into Arkham Manor after the asylum's collapse. Why this has happened isa bit of a mystery, since there are surely better places to hold inmates, instead of raiding someone's home. Someone has been killing inmates, so what does Bruce do? Disguise himself as a John Doe of course. Because that's logical. The writing wasn't to my liking. It was too detective noir, which I agree was the right tone for the story, but just didn't sit well with me. It's not to In this series, Wayne Manor has been turned into Arkham Manor after the asylum's collapse. It's not too original a story, and the while the bad guy was unique and a fresh face, the build up, while purposely misleading, was shoddily done. I wasn't a fan of the way it was handled. The writing is amateurish--too much telling: "I feel this", "I feel that". Makes for some pretty cheap and dull writing. All this could have easily been conveyed in the art, as is done in most good comics. I'm not a fan of the art. It feels too gritty for me, even though I suppose it fits with the gritty tone of the story. I think the one thing I did enjoy was the interactions with Victor Fries. It was kind of cute the way he acted, especially once he gets released from the manor. His first action is to lie in the snow and make snow angels, which is just adorable. Fries is one of those characters I jut adore, and this comic just intensified it. Overall, I'm not too impressed. I just want them to rebuild Arkham Asylum and go back to having good old family time in Wayne Manor. May 29, Quentin Wallace rated it really liked it. Batman must infiltrate the Manor posing as a patient in order to find out out how and why these killings are taking place. Also, Jeremiah Arkham has his own issues. The art, which normally I probably wouldn't have liked, fit the story surprisingly well. Overall not a bad Batman story. It seemed a little thrown together at first, but really I think it could turn out to be an important piece of canon in the future. I wouldn't say it's required reading necessarily, but if you're a Batman fan this one is worth checking out. Jun 17, Patrick rated it liked it Shelves: graphic-novels , batman , dc-comics , graphic-novel I remember when they announced this series, I thought it was a great idea. I collected the issues as they came out. I also know they cancelled the series after 3 issues. Didn't sell well at all. The idea was better than how this turned out. I wanted to like this more. I really did. Arkham Asylum has blown up, and now Wayne Manor is the asylum?! That's a great idea! This wasn't though. If You're a Batman fan you should check it out.
