Acta Musei Moraviae, Scientiae biologicae (Brno) 90: 195–207. – Leafhoppers, planthoppers and psyllids light-trapped into streetlamps were examined at two sites in complex ruderal habitats (fields, annual and perennial ruderal vegetation, scrub with ruderal and alien species) in Slatina, on the periphery of the city of Brno in South Moravia. A total of 1628 specimens and 61 species were found. Among the dominant species were Empoasca vitis, E. decipiens, E. pteridis, Macrosteles laevis, Psammotettix alienus, Javesella pellucida, Laodelphax striatella, Zyginidia pullula, Kybos lindbergi, and Edwardsiana rosae. Noteworthy are records of Kybos calyculus and Oncopsis appendiculata (both new for the Czech Republic), several rare species living in dry ruderal grassland (Recilia horvathi, Macrosteles quadripunctulatus, Balclutha saltuella), and hygrophilous species caught on dispersal flight (Pentastiridius leporinus, Calamotettix taeniatus, Cicadula placida, Limotettix striola, and Paramesus major). Introduction Leafhoppers (Cicadomorpha), planthoppers (Fulgoromorpha) and psyllids (Sternorrhyncha: Psylloidea) are phytophagous insects belonging to the order Hemiptera. They suck plant sap, mostly from phloem vessels, some groups feed on xylem or mesophyll tissues. -

At first submission, one double spaced hard copy (text and tables) with figures (may not be original) must be sent to the Editors, Dr. Hüseyin Özdikmen for publication in MEZ. All manuscripts should be submitted as Word file or PDF file in an e-mail attachment. If electronic submission is not possible due to limitations of electronic space at the sending or receiving ends, unavailability of e-mail, etc., we will accept ―hard‖ versions, in triplicate, accompanied by an electronic version stored in a floppy disk, a CD-ROM. Review Process: When submitting manuscripts, all authors provides the name, of at least three qualified experts (they also provide their address, subject fields and e-mails). Then, the editors send to experts to review the papers. The review process should normally be completed within 45-60 days. After reviewing papers by reviwers: Rejected papers are discarded. For accepted papers, authors are asked to modify their papers according to suggestions of the reviewers and editors. Final versions of manuscripts and figures are needed in a digital format. -

Abstract. The planthopper family Delphacidae is a speciose lineage of phloem- feeding insects, with many species considered as pests of economic significance on essential world food commodities (including rice, maize, wheat, barley and sugar cane). Despite their economic importance, evolutionary relationships among delphacids, particularly those within the speciose tribe Delphacini, are largely unknown. Presented here are the results of a phylogenetic investigation of Delphacidae based on DNA nucleotide sequence data from four genetic loci (18S rDNA, 28S rDNA, wingless and cytochrome oxidase I ) and 132 coded morphological characters. The resulting topologies are used to test the higher classification of Delphacidae and to examine evolutionary patterns in host–plant associations. Our results generally support the higher classifications of Delphacidae proposed by Asche, Emeljanov and Hamilton, and suggest that the rapid diversification of the Delphacini was associated with host shifts to, and within, Poaceae, and specifically from C3 to C4 grasses. Samples were taken by a motor-driven suction apparatus. In 2001 leafhoppers were collected in a variety of sites differing in land use (fallows, mown sites) and in flood intensity (high, medium, low, none). In 2002 samples were only taken in fallows subject to different flooding regimes. In fallows, more species (43) were collected than in mown sites (33). Flooding had an effect only in fallows. Here, the most species-rich (29) communities occurred in sites not subject to flooding, whereas fewest species (21) were found in sites subject to regularly occurring long lasting winter floods. Mown sites were dominated by pioneer species. In fallows, the communities differed in respect to flood intensity. In fallows that were subject to summer and winter floods pioneer species prevailed. In contrast, in fallows that were flooded a long time during winter but not in summer, communities of very specialised species were found which were not very species-rich. -

Andrew Hamilton1 Abstract: Antennal sensilla in more than 450 genera o f all 21 putative families o f Fulgoroidea provide characters that correlate well with other characters, including those of nymphal wax filaments and adult behaviour. Together, these characters indicate that Issidae, Lophopidae and Tropiduchidae are polyphyletic taxa, and suggest that Achilidae, Caliscelidae, Cixiidae and Dictyopharidae are paraphyletic. Two strongly supported monophyletic lineages comprise six plesiomorphic taxa (Achilidae+ Cixiidae+ Achilixiidae+ Derbidae+ Kinnaridae+ Meenoplidae) and five apomorphic taxa (Eurybrachidae+ Gengidae+ Lophopidae tribes Acarnini+ Colpopterini+ Elasmoscelini). Tetdgometridae share the most highly modified antennal type with Ahomocnemiellinae (of Caliscelidae). Weaker evidence suggests that Trypetomorphini (of Tropiduchidae) together with Augilini (of Lophopidae) is the basal lineage of Delphacidae, that Fulgoridae together with Dictyopharidae and Hiraciini (of Tropiduchidae) form a fifth monophyly, and that the remainder of Fulgoroidea are related to Issidae and to Nogodinidae. The most characteristic antennal sensilla type (known since 1890) is shared by seven putative families (Acanaloniidae, Flatidae, Hypochthonellidae, Ricaniidae, Issidae, Lophopidae and Tropiduchidae). The unexpected relationships of Issidae to various other such families support a 1977 hypothesis by Fennah that derive an “issid” wing type in Mithjmna Stal from that of Nogodinidae. -
