Daneben ist die „Vogelwarte“ offizielles Organ der Deutschen Ornithologen-Gesellschaft und veröffentlicht alle entsprechenden Berichte und Mitteilungen ihrer Gesellschaft. Herausgeber: Die Zeitschrift wird gemein sam herausgegeben von der Deutschen Ornithologen-Gesellschaft, dem Institut für Vogelforschung „Vogelwarte Helgoland“, der Vogelwarte Radolfzell am Max-Planck-Institut für Ornithologie, der Vogelwarte Hiddensee und der Beringungszentrale Hiddensee. A method to investigate and analyze reactions of diurnally migrating birds to offshore wind farms. Vogelwarte 51: 3-13. When addressing potential threats of offshore wind farms on migrating birds, avoidance behavior in response to wind farms is among those commonly mentioned, meaning that wind farms can act as barriers for migrants. Substantial - but otherwise sparsely - proof for this exits from Denmark and The Netherlands. However, monitoring potential threats in the German Bight failed in providing evidence of an avoidance response of migrating birds to offshore wind farms. Minor adaptations of the current method of investigation and analysis provided here, however, have led to substantiated results. In addition, these ad- aptations can easily be incorporated into current standard protocols of environmental impact assessment studies. Strossmayer University of Osijek, Osijek, Croatia 2 Slovenian Museum of Natural History, Ljubljana, Slovenia Received: 17.10.2015 Accepted/Published Online: 24.06.2016 Final Version: 04.04.2017 Abstract: The present faunistic study of blood sucking lice (Phthiraptera: Anoplura) has resulted in the recording of the 4 species: Hoplopleura acanthopus (Burmeister, 1839); Ho. affinis (Burmeister, 1839); Polyplax serrata (Burmeister, 1839), and Haematopinus apri Goureau, 1866 newly reported for the fauna of Croatia. Thirteen species and 2 subspecies are currently known from Croatia, belonging to 6 families. Linognathidae and Haematopinidae are the best represented families, with four species each, followed by Hoplopleuridae and Polyplacidae with two species each, Pediculidae with two subspecies, and Pthiridae with one species. Blood sucking lice were collected from 18 different host species. Three taxa, one species, and two subspecies were recorded on the Homo sapiens Linnaeus, 1758. Two species were recorded on Apodemus agrarius (Pallas, 1771); A. sylvaticus (Linnaeus, 1758); Bos taurus Linnaeus, 1758; and Sus scrofa Linnaeus, 1758 per host species. On the remaining 13 host species, one Anoplura species was collected. The recorded species were collected from 17 localities covering 17 fields of 10 × 10 km on the UTM grid of Croatia. Up to the present, a total of 109 species belonging to 50 genera of lice have been recorded from animals and humans, according to the morphological identifi cation. Among the avian lice, a total of 43 species belonging to 22 genera were identifi ed in Ischnocera (Philopteridae). 35 species belonging to 14 genera in Menoponidae were detected and only 1 species was found in Laemobothriidae in Amblycera. Among the mammalian lice, a total of 20 species belonging to 8 genera were identifi ed in Anoplura. 8 species belonging to 3 genera in Ischnocera were determined and 2 species belonging to 2 genera were detected in Amblycera in the mammalian lice. Summary: This study was performed to detect chewing lice species existed on some aquatic birds in Konya province in Turkey between 2014-2016. For this aim, the birds which were brought to the clinics of Selçuk University, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine for treatment, and dead birds collected at Lake Çavuşçu were examined for louse. Louse specimens collected from the birds were preserved in eppendorf tubes containing ethyl alcohol 70%, made transparent in potassium hydroxide (KOH) 10% for 24 hours, rinsed in distilled water and transferred to alcohol 70% and 99% at consecutive days. They were mounted in Canada balsam on the slides for identification. Among studied 94 birds belonging to 12 species in eight genera in five orders, 84 of them (89.36%) were found to be infested with lice. Eighteen louse species belonging to 14 genera were detected in the study. Some implications of this atypical host associa­ tion, in a family previously known only from mammals, are discussed. A new species of Heterodoxus from a New Guinea marsupial is described. A note on the thoracic sterna and the pronotal setae of the Boopidae is included. Through the kindness of Dr I. L. Owen I have received some specimens belonging to the Boopidae* taken from a Cassowary in circumstances precluding direct contami­ nation from a marsupial. In the British Museum (Natural History) collections there is a single nymph taken from a skin of Casuarius bennetti which resembles these specimens and like them differs from all known Boopidae. The Old World marsupials are the only known hosts of this family with the exception of one species, Heterodoxus spiniger (Enderlein), found on domestic dogs ; however, as this species is also parasitic on a kangeroo, Wallabia agilis (see Keler 1971), its occurrence on dogs is obviously a case of relatively recent secondary establishment. The 2 separate records of the cas­ sowary louse and the fact that it is generically separable from all the known marsupial Boopidae suggest that it is an established parasite of the Cassowary. Five species of gulls were examined for chewing lice in three different localities of the Saudi Arabian Red Sea coast. Two gull species were examined for lice for the first time (Larus armenicus Buturlin, 1934 and Larus michahellis Naumann, 1840) and their lice represent new host- louse associations. Four species and two subspecies of lice were identified from 159 specimens collected. Actornithophi- lus piceus lari (Packard, 1870) and Austromenopon transversum (Denny, 1842) (suborder: Amblycera), and Quadraceps punctatus (Burmeister, 1838) and Saemundssonia lari (O. Fabricius, 1780) (suborder: Ischnocera) were recorded for the first time from Saudi Arabia and Red Sea birds.
