This study aimed to survey the genus Pinnularia Ehrenberg (Bacillariophyta) in five preserved streams located in three conservation units (Brasília National Park, Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park and Terra Ronca State Park). Periphyton was collected in different substrata during the dry and rainy seasons (years 2012 to 2013), totalizing 25 sample units. Altogether, 23 taxa were identified, beingP. subanglica, P. angustivalva and P. butantanum the most frequent. Pebble and sand were the richest substrates, with nine taxa each. Among the 23 taxa reported, 13 are cited for the first time for the central Brazil: P. angusta var. angusta, P. angustivalva, P. butantanum, P. divergens var. biconstricta, P. divergens var. mesoleptiformis, P. gibba var. subundulata, P. paulensis, P. persudetica var. persudetica, P. subgibba var. angustarea, P. subgibba var. capitada, P. superpaulensis, P. viridiformis var. minor and P. undula var. undula. The stations are located in different littoral zones of the study area and they are different from each other in terms of hydrological respect. The samples contained a mixture of forms growing on the stones themselves, on silt accumulated on the stones and forms epiphytic on other algae, I will refer to this collective community as epilithon. Epilithic diatom species, which constitute the majority of the community were examined from obtained material. A total of 67 diatom taxa belonging to 34 genera were identified to the genus or species level. The species more frequently found in the samples were Cocconeis placentula, Cocconeis scutellum, Mastogloia pumila, Navicula cincta and Navicula crypyocephala var. veneta. Nine of the species identified during the research period seem to be previously unreported for Turkish coastal waters. Morphological characteristics of these species were given in detail information and original photographs. Morales and Marina Potapova June 1, 2000 INTRODUCTION The Third NAWQA Workshop on Harmonization of Algal Taxonomy was held at The Academy of Natural Sciences on 1-3 May 2000. Dr. R.J. Stevenson and Kalina Manoylova of Michigan State University; Dr. Donald F. Charles, Frank Acker, Todd A. Clason, Patrick Cotter, Candia Knowles, Kalina Manoylova, Lont Marr, Eduardo A. Morales, Marina Potapova, and Dr. Charles W. Reimer of The Academy of Natural Sciences’ Patrick Center for Environmental Research; and William R. Cody, a private consultant based in the State of Ohio, participated in the workshop. The primary purpose of the workshop was to develop and agree on nomenclature to use when analyzing NAWQA 1997-start algae samples, collected in 1999-2001. Other objectives are summarized in the attached list of Agenda items (Appendix 1). Results of discussion of these other items are reported in separate memos and are not included here. The U.S. Geological Survey’s National Water Quality Assessment (NAWQA) program concentrates on the study of nearly 60 major watersheds in the United States. Each of these watersheds is called a Study Unit (SU). Approximately 15 to 20 SUs are investigated at a time. To date, three sets of SUs, or "starts," have been collected: the 1991, 1994, and 1997-starts. Algal samples from each SU are collected over a three-year period, usually beginning after two years of planning and site selection. -

Aceito em 5/02/2007 RESUMO – (Diatomoflórula Perifítica do rio Descoberto – DF e GO, Brasil, Naviculales (Bacillariophyceae)): Diploneidineae e Sellaphorineae). O presente estudo enfocou as diatomáceas perifíticas pertencentes às subordens Diploneidineae e Sellaphorineae de Naviculales (Bacillariophyceae) do rio Descoberto, Distrito Federal, Goiás. As coletas foram realizadas em junho e julho/2003 (período de seca) e janeiro e fevereiro/2004 (período de chuva), em cinco estações de amostragem. Foram identificados 16 táxons infragenéricos, uma espécie pertencente à ordem Diploneidineae e as demais à ordem Sellaphorineae. Foram registradas 14 citações pioneiras para o estado de Goiás e 15 citações pioneiras para o Distrito Federal. Samples were collected at five different points along the Descoberto River, one of the main lotic ecosystems in the Distrito Federal during June-July/2003 (dry season) and January-February (rainy season). Sixteen species from both suborders were identified; 14 species were cited for the first time for Goiás state and 15 for the Distrito Federal. LOBBAN Division of Natural Sciences, University of Guam, Mangilao, GU 83823, USA e-mail: [email protected] Abstract—Twenty-eight new records and three new species are documented for the Guam flora, extending the records and checklist published in Micronesica 43: 237–479. Of note among the new records are Pinnunavis yarrensis (Grunow) H. Okuno and Nitzschia janischii Grunow both observed alive, plus Protokeelia cholnokyi (Giffen) Round & Basson and Pogoneis bahrainii Round & Basson seen only in acid-cleaned preparations. Psammodictyon pustulatum (Voigt ex Meister) n. comb., n. stat. (Bacillariales: Bacillariaceae) differs from related species in having a pair of rounded elevations on the distal side of the sternum. Three new species are described; only one was observed alive. Colliculoamphora gabgabensis (Eunotiales: Eunotiaceae) is smaller and more finely striated than its congeners. Lauderia excentrica (Thalassiosirales: Lauderiaceae) differs from the only other species of the genus in having a large, excentric, reniform annulus. Rhoiconeis pagoensis (Naviculales: Naviculaceae) differs from the other two known species in its stria density. D., Associate Dean, Graduate School i Abstract The Quincy Diatomite deposit, central Washington, USA, is a middle Miocene (~15 Ma) freshwater lacustrine deposit located between flows of the Columbia River Basalt Group. Three localities along the western margin of the deposit are examined and the diatom flora are described at the species level, with 84 species recognized. Of these species, one is new, Fragilariforma intortus, and one is elevated in rank to the species level, Tetracyclus williamsensii. One species, Pseudostaurosira brevistriata var. subcapitata, is also is transferred to a new genus for taxonomic clarification. Although rare, three species of the genus Sellaphora occur in the Quincy diatomite deposit, making this occurrence the oldest for the genus in the fossil record. The northwestern United States endemic fossil species Ellerbeckia baileyi is also observed in the deposit, and is abundant in particular stratigraphic intervals. Stratigraphic and geographic variation within the deposit is also examined. The three lithologic units recognized in the deposit, the Four Crude, Bottom Crude, and Top Crude, are distinguished by subtle lithologic differences and contain distinct diatom floras.
