There is a shortage of research on the behaviour of Scots pine after surface fire in older stands. The aim of the work was to describe the effect of the surface fire intensity on the mortality of pines of various diameter at breast height (DBH), including older trees. The research was conducted in Peucedano-Pinetum oligotrophic Scots-pine forest in Kampinos National Park (KPN, central Poland) on the area of two adjacent surface fire sites originated in spring 2015 in 60- to 200-year-old stands (site area: 10,92 ha). There were 45 (28 burned and 17 control) permanent plots established after the fire. -

DEVELOPMENT DILEMMAS of WATER TRANSPORT of MAZOVIA Tadeusz Wójcicki
DOI: 10.21858/MSR.33.03 Development dilemmas of water transport of Mazovia Tadeusz Wójcicki ABSTRACT The Polish government conducts program works on the development of the E40 waterway along the Vistula and the Bug in accordance with the European Agreement on the main inland waterways of inter- national importance (AGN). In light of the current investment practice, there is still a long way to go for the implementation of the E40 waterway in Mazovia, while the current findings of these programs and related study plans are at many points controversial. In this situation, this article aims to identify the weaknesses of these findings, indicate other ways to solve the already embarrassing decision-making situations (dilemmas), analyze and evaluate basic decision-making alternatives, and choose optimal solutions for Mazovia. The author has identified the following basic decision dilemmas: (0) Does a waterway network in Mazovia exist or not? (1) Whether to build this network or not? (2) Whether to reject the AGN Agreement or not? (3) Whether to build a network in full or limited spatial extent? (4) Whether to build following AGN or lower waterwaytechnical classes? (5) Whether to build against ecologists or in harmony with them? As a result of detailed analyzes and assessments, the author chose to solve these dilemmas, assu- ming (0) the lack of the waterway network in its current state, (1) undertaking the investment program for the construction of this network as satisfying the potential undisclosed demand in the field of water transport, (2) not rejecting the AGN Agreement as consistent with the long-term EU transport policy, (3) building the waterway network in the full spatial scope, (4) constructing a complete network in one step, i.e. -

The commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II and the victims of German executions in the Kampinos Forest included a mass celebrated by Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz, an ecumenical prayer, a call for the fallen and the laying of wreaths. The anniversary celebrations which took place on 14 September 2019 at the Cemetery- Mausoleum in Palmiry were attended by the Deputy President of the Institute of National Remembrance, Dr Mateusz Szpytma. The ceremony was also attended by veterans, parliamentarians, representatives of state authorities, the Polish Army and the local government. "They walked, tripping over branches, blindfolded, guided by SS officers and gendarmes. (...) When they arrived, they were told to stand over deep pits. The firing squad stood opposite them. And only later, after the war, small pieces of paper were found beside their remains. These pieces of paper had only one sentence written on them, clearly written in a hurry, the writing uneven and crooked as if the author were terrified: SHOT TO DEATH IN PALMIRY (...) Shame on your executioners. A total of 69,442 nests on 693 sites were found. !e over- 2 all population was estimated at 72,125-76,488 nests ( x = 74,307, 175 nests/100 km ). !e average rookery size reached 100.2 nests (SD = 192.4). !ere were #ve colonies (0.7%) with at least 1,000 nests, 368 (52.4%) small colonies with up to 25 nests, 32 (4.6%) sites with single nests and 103 (14.9%) with up to 3 nests. -

Press release Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle UJAZDOWSKI CASTLE - A HISTORY The origins of the Jazdów settlement on the high left bank of the Vistula river precede the history of Warsaw and date back to a 12th century ford, connecting Kamień and Solec, which was a river crossing approached by a deep gulch in the escarpment (today Agrykola Street). The hamlet’s name, Jazdów or Ujazdów, is therefore derived from the root “jazd”, meaning “to ride, to ford”. The stronghold overlooking the ford from the south (the present site of Botanical Gardens) was a frequent stooping place of the Mazovian princes. During the 13th century Jazdów was destroyed twice; finally, prince Conrad of Mazovia decided to move his residence to the newly founded the township of Warsaw. Jazdów remained a prince’ castle but was used mainly as a hunting lodge. The second period of the hamlet’s history begins in the 16th century, when at the decline of the Mazovian dynasty their lands were taken over by the Crown. In 1548, after the death of king Zygmunt Stary, the Queen Dowager Bona chose Jazdów for her residence. The spacious wooden court, surrounded by magnificent gardens, was located at the site of today’s Finnish cottage colony. Sometime later, in the 70’s or 80’s, a new royal country residence was erected on the approximate site of today’s Ujazdowski Castle; the moving spirit behind this project was probably Anna Jagiellonka, the wife of king Stefan Batory. According to some records it was here that the great Renaissance drama Odprawa Posłów Greckich (The Dismissal of the Greek Envoys) by Jan Kochanowski was enacted for the royal coupe.
