Now if the advert above does not press all the right buttons, I guess you’re reading the wrong publication, subscribing to the wrong organization. This promises to be one hell of a show, another landmark in the making, I can feel it in my gut folks. I have spoken to all artists over these last few weeks at the time of typing, and they are really up for it, I mean really raring to go. As you can see we are returning to the 100 Club after a break of a few years. Unfortunately we have decided to leave the Borderline, as I truly feel the ambience of the refurbished venue is unsuitable for our type of show. I must point out before any cries of disloyalty towards the 100 Club for leaving that venue for the Borderline, it was purely that at the time the veteran Oxford Street establishment was under threat. It was suggested by the management that we move our event to a temporary home whilst the problems were in the process of being sorted out.

August 2014 80 ALL ARTICLES/IMAGES ARE COPYRIGHT OF THEIR RESPECTIVE AUTHORS. FOR REPRODUCTION, PLEASE CONTACT ALAN LLOYD VIA TFTW.ORG.UK Vaneese Thomas and Quincy Avenue Rhythm Band at Porretta © Paul Harris Keith talks to Dave Travis John Howard gets really saucy TFTW meets the Sandal Vandal Dave Carroll’s view of Porretta 2014 A happy upcoming birthday to Dorothy Papard And more... 1 Another useful book for record collectors from this specialist book company; this time the author, who is a Woodie, had no qualms about getting his work accepted - since he is also the publisher. EPs and statistics have always been desirable to the record collector, and no definitive book on every EP issued has ever been published. Vintage Records did issue the long deleted “Collectable EPs” (published in 1982) of British EPs, but this was a personal selection chosen by the long gone London record shop, but does contain what they consider over 3700 vintage obscurities. The “British Hit EPs” book I consider as a bolt-on reference book to “Collectable EPs” which focuses on the hit EPs only. The source gleaned from the Record Retailer, Music Week, Record Mirror and New Record Mirror, therefore the combination of the two books does provide a comprehensive guide for the EP researcher. “British Hit EPs” contains a brief history of the EP which is interesting reading, but the “Technical Notes” and the “How The Information is Presented” do need some digesting before ploughing into the data. The EPs are listed per artist in alpha order showing all their releases, issue dates and track listing, and every page has photos, this section finishes at page 132.

  • PRESTON BLUES FESTIVAL' - Saturday 30Th May @ Tonic Live Lounge, the Bears Paws, Preston
Review for - 'PRESTON BLUES FESTIVAL' - Saturday 30th May @ Tonic Live Lounge, The Bears Paws, Preston Rosy Greer - Lancashire Blues Archive PRESTON BLUES FESTIVAL opened its doors for a 2nd year running at the Tonic Live Lounge, Bears Paw in Preston, Lancashire. It was never going to be a massive event, but the class line up gave it an edge on some of the bigger festivals and it was whole heartedly enjoyed by all who came. MC and DJ, 'Chris Powers' opened the day with some excellent blues and groove from his vast collection, to get us in 'the mood', which continued throughout the Festival. Chris Powers MC/DJ - http://www.chrispowers.co.uk/ First on stage, from the US, was 'Kent DuChaine'. He gave us superb raw 12 bar delta blues on his battered resonator guitar, interspersed with some storytelling, with tales of his experiences with the greats of Muddy Waters and Son House et al. A great performance from a charismatic character. Kent DuChaine - http://www.kentduchaine.com/ A total treat was in store with the fabulous 'Brothers Groove' from Birmingham. They played a mix of blues funk, with a leaning towards jazz and are one of the best live bands I have heard. They certainly didn't disappoint, playing a selection of numbers from their incredible self penned album 'Play The Game' and a couple of covers. The spine tingling number 'Another Girl' was sung to perfection by Shaun Hill and the guitar solos from Shaun and Nige Mellor were faultless. Deano Bass kept in the groove, with Jim Simpson maintaining the rhythm on drums.
