Contributions of both are important to create a real society. In country like India, women in parallel with man faced difficulties in the old days. But now it is seen to be the opposite. Now a days both men and women are bringing pride to the country by achieving a high level of success. In this way in the context of the North-East India, women’s of Assam have significant contributions to Assamese literature along with the various aspects of knowledge, Cultures, Science etc. This study attempts to discuss contributions of women’s to the Assamese Novel of the 20th century. Keyword : 20th century Assamese novel, women’s contributions, women’s views. 0.0 Introduction : Women’s have been facing difficulties in moving forward in parallel with men in society since ancient times. In this way, the skills that previously Assamese women had shown in the social, cultural field; in addition to the entire responsibility of children and families were not socially recognized. Rather than women were tied up with some religious discipline. But reforms the 19th century, the circulation of female education under the initiative of missionary in Assam changed the previous tradition for women. In the light of education Assamese women were able to establish their own in all social fields by gradually expanding their family ties.

III || June 2019 || PP 45-50 Impact of Magazines in Creation and Development of Assamese Short Stories Dr. Pranita Sarmah Subject Teacher, Department of Assamese, Genius Academy Junior College, Lakhimpur, Assam ABSTRACT: Written literature is the only way to store human thinking permanently. Among the different creative literatures, short-story is such a medium, through which the realities of life can be expressed within brief space whereas various social spheres can be also articulated in consistent forms. There is a direct link of newspapers and magazines in the developmental history of short-story creation and its growth. During 19th century in Europe, consequently, due to the increasing demand of short literary compositions, an atmosphere of short-story writing was created. The similar influence of magazines and periodicals can be detected in Indian short-story makings. There was the impact of contemporary magazines and periodicals in the stories of Rabindranath Tagore. Assamese short-stories were also influenced in the similar way. In 19th century, with the help of Assamese magazine ‘Jonaki’, short-story writing found a new trend to express its lively existence. It is worthy to be mentioned that different eras have been divided by the names of magazines for the study of the history of short-story writing on the basis of the inception and development of Assamese short-stories through magazines and periodicals. In this research paper an attempt is made to analyse the impact of magazines in creation and development of Assamese short-stories.

The influence of the western literature is significantly distinguished in early periods of Assamese novel. Nearly hundred and thirty years ago in the ‘Jonaki era’, different Assamese novelist tried their hands in contributing creation of the Assamese Novel. Among of those Padmanath Gohainbaruah, Laximinath Bezbarua, Rajanikanta Bodoloi was pioneer of the Assamese novel. Before independence, the main trend of Assamese novels was based on historical novel. After the 2nd World war and Independence of India, Assamese novel developed through various genres, especially the genre of social novels become very stronger. New genres of novel like political novel, biographical novel, detective novel, mystery novel, mythological novel, science fiction etc were also written after independence. In twenty first century, most of the novels have been written in the above mention categories, although the two strong genres have influence in the present Assamese novels, the first genre in genre of historical novel and second it is biographical novel. It is notable that contemporary Assamese novel reflecting the various issue of Assamese society also. This paper is trying to discuss about present scenario of Assamese novel.
