MICKEY MERGUERIAN Geologist, Duke Geological Laboratory, Stone Ridge, NY 12484 The following field guide and road log is intended to provide participants with keys to understanding our subdivisions of the venerable Manhattan Schist into three separable units by utilizing exposures in New York City including Isham, Inwood Hill and Central parks and to show in the bedrock structural evidence for our tectonic interpretations. The field guide is split into two major field localities, each with individual stops. Locality 1 is Isham and Inwood Hill parks in northern Manhattan and Locality 2 is the south part of Central Park in midtown Manhattan. Meeting Points: NE corner of Isham Street and Seaman Avenue, NYC, NY. Parking is available in the streets to the north, south and east of meeting point. Parking is typically good on weekends but be sure to read posted parking signs to avoid ticketing. We plan to use public transportation (A-Train at 207th Street and Broadway downtown to Columbus Circle) to travel between Locality 1 and Locality 2. Trends in New York City Housing Price Appreciation TRENDS s New Yorkers come to accept that the housing boom of the last ten years is over, many are wondering how the downturn will affect their neighborhoods: IN NYC How much, if at all, will sale prices fall? Will the prices in my neighborhood drop more than in other neighborhoods? Should I be concerned about other HOUSING negative trends, such as an increase in poverty or crime? P AWhile there is no crystal ball to predict how bad this downturn will be or which RICE A neighborhoods will be hit hardest, history can provide some helpful context. In the past PP reciation 34 years, New York City housing prices experienced two periods of rapid increase— 1980–1989 and 1996–2006—and two periods of decline—1974–1980 and 1989–1996.1 Fortunately, both booms were substantial, and both busts, although difficult, were relatively small. Overall, prices increased by 250% from 1974 to 2006. This chapter explores these four periods of price in an upturn or downturn. Finally, to address questions appreciation and decline, using the Furman Center’s about individual neighborhoods, we provide a detailed Index of Housing Price Appreciation and other data, case study of one representative community from each to identify persistent trends and useful lessons.2 The borough. New York County Community Health Needs Assessment New York County Health Indicator Status Since 2013 CHNA The 2013-2016 Implementation Plan activities have had an impact in improving and meeting New York State Prevention Agenda Objectives that were related to health disparities, chronic disease, obesity and behavioral health as shown below. Since 2013, Northwell Health has delivered over 4000 community health programs and over 65,000 health screenings. Examples of interventions that helped achieved these goals include robust chronic disease and cancer screening programs ; implementation of culturally relevant evidence-based chronic disease self-management education; prevention of childhood obesity through school-based projects as well as promotion of policies and practices in support of breastfeeding; creation of community environments that promote and support healthy food and beverage choices and physical activity; elimination of exposure to secondhand smoke and prevention of the initiation of tobacco use by youth, especially among low socioeconomic status (SES) populations and the promotion of tobacco cessation, especially among low SES populations and those with poor mental health; and strengthened infrastructure to promote mental, emotional and behavioral wellbeing. However, the burden of health disparities, chronic disease, obesity and behavioral health issues is still present as demonstrated below by the indicators that have not met the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) Prevention Agenda Objectives and/or have worsened
