AWAKENING THE DREAMER THROUGH UNITY SYMPOSIUM: TWO-HOUR PRESENTER’S MANUAL V-3 January 2016 Message to Presenters: The Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream Symposium was designed as a 3-4 hour live experience. However, presenters have requested a way to be able to present the Symposium when the window they have is no more than two hours. This Manual is designed to support you in presenting the Symposium in two hours. This version covers the same basic content as the original version, but it differs in that the presenter material has been reduced, and most of the interactive exercises have been shortened or removed altogether. If you have additional time you may choose to include some of the OPTIONAL material that is indicated in the Manual in gray shading. As you prepare to present, you may want to refer to and/or study the material in the complete V-3 Presenters Manual. You will note that the colors and typefaces in this Manual correspond to those in the full V-3 Presenter’s Manual: Presenter remarks are in Dark Blue Notes to the presenter are in a Lighter blue; Interactive exercises are in Green; A-V Elements are in Red; Speakers in video modules are in Black; Section titles are in ORANGE; Optional material is in Gray shading Wording in purple is under consideration and not finalized. Printing your Manual in color is optional—most of the above categories are reflected in differences in both typeface and color. One of the biggest technical changes in V-3 is that the audio-visual content is available in a self-contained presentation program, Sliderocket, rather than on a DVD. It can be downloaded from the “Symposium Materials” portion on the Facilitator Hub of the Pachamama Alliance’s website (http://hub.pachamama.org/resources/symposium-materials/overview). The download time will depend on the speed of your internet connection (normally about 30-45 minutes with a high-speed connection). Once it has been downloaded to your computer, Sliderocket does not require that you have an internet connection when you present your Symposium. If you prefer to use Keynote or Powerpoint format files, they are available on the Symposium Materials page in the Facilitator Hub as well. Page 2 Notes on AV The red letters/numbers in parentheses (e.g., (P-1)) designate the audio-visual elements in the Symposium. (This was the original numbering system.) The blue bracketed letters/numbers that follow (e.g., [SR 1]) match the new Sliderocket numbering system and are included as a support in running the AV for the Symposium. The letters and numbers in the A-V Elements column correspond to those on the V- 3 Sliderocket Presentation Software. For example, the 2-hour version begins with element SR (W-2: Slide -Symposium Title.) Since the 2-hour version does not include a break, be sure to skip over the break A-V elements. The entire scripts of the video are not included in this Manual, however the last statement made in each video is included (in black) as a cue for the presenter Please note that this is a first draft of this Manual and the timing of the sections is not final. If you would report back what you discover about the timing of your 2-hour Symposium that would be helpful, as well as any other feedback on this shortened version. You may send your feedback to Director of Symposium Development, Tracy Apple ~ [email protected]. Thank you, and have fun with it! Welcome to Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream through Unity. We’re delighted you are here. I’d like to thank (insert names of local leaders) for bringing this powerful event to (Name of Congregation). As advertised, this is the premier showing of an adaptation to a symposium called Awakening the Dreamer, which was created in 2005. To date, the symposium has been shown in 80 countries on six continents and in 12 languages. In 2012, discussions began between Unity’s EarthCare Team and the Pachamama Alliance to consider ways in which the Symposium might be slightly modified for Unity audiences and to include a discussion of Unity’s EarthCare Program. In 2014, the Unity Worldwide Ministries board of directors approved the project. This is the first time the adapted symposium has been shown so I apologize in advance if it’s a little rough at times. But today is an important part of this project as it will help identify areas where changes and improvements are needed. Then, it’s our intent to offer this symposium to Unity Chruches worldwide to encourage them to make care for the earth a part of their ministry. I’m confident that this will have long range positive impact for Unity Worldwide Ministries. So thanks for being guinea pigs in this important campaign. I/we would like to introduce ourselves: My name is … and like most Symposium presenters around the world, I’m a volunteer. Page 5 For a living I …. (how I usually spend my time is….) I care deeply about the issues we will talk about today and I do this because …. (Co-Facilitator shares) (Point to co-Facilitator) and I are not necessarily “experts” in all the areas we’ll be covering today, but the material we’re presenting here has been fully researched and is based on a wide consensus of recognized experts. Thank you so much for being here. We’re really glad to be able to share this experience with you. 1 min W.4 Why We Are Here W-3 [SR 7]: Slide: Rainforest Landscape We’re living in amazing and challenging times. National and global crises abound, and many of us find ourselves worrying about the state of the world and questioning if there’s anything we can do about it. That might be what brought you to this Symposium. We’re here today to share with you about both the urgency and the opportunity of these times, and how you as well as your congregation can become active participants in bringing forth a new future. Many experts agree that we have the technologies and the resources to address our global crises – but what’s missing is the collective will – a critical mass of awake, conscious, people who are committed to implementing the solutions. Our goal is to empower engaged global citizens—“pro-activists,” who are enthusiastically at work transforming their own thinking and way of being, as well as transforming the larger social systems and structures that stand in the way of having the world we all yearn to live in and leave for our children. Today’s Symposium is one of several programs the Pachamama Alliance and the Unity EarthCare Ministry Team offers in the “Up to Us” engagement pathway. We’ll tell you more about the others at the end of our time together today. .5 min. W.5 Logistics We’re going to go until (time). If you need to move or stretch, it is perfectly fine to get up and go to the back of the room to do that—take care of your physical needs. The Page 6 bathrooms are located… If at any point you can’t hear, please let us know. (Presenter: Say the next two sentences only if you do, in fact, plan to pass out such a handout:) Feel free to take notes or not, but know that you will receive a handout with the websites mentioned during the Symposium. They are also available on our website, so you don’t need to worry about writing them down. Please turn off your cell phones and pagers and anything that makes a sound now. Thank you 2 min W.7 Becoming Present We’re going to begin today by borrowing a practice used by many indigenous peoples of the world when they gather for something important— it’s a short ritual to help us settle in, become present, and come together in community. W.7A Acknowledge/Celebrate Sacred Space If you’re willing, please close or lower your eyes for a moment and, first, take a deep breath, and let it out. Take another deep breath, and as you breathe, listen to sounds of the tropical rainforest.
