ATG guide

Legend: Pak36 = Pak38 = Pak40&flak36 =

Introduction This is a revival of my old ATG guide, I made back in 2004-2005. All kill spots on allied have been updated to the latest 1.30.

This guide is made for the purpose of scoring 1-shot kills. It pains me to see ATG's fire thoughtlessly at the enemy, completely ignoring the fact that firing "half-assed" and spending 10+ shots at each target, not ONLY is a waste of ammo, but also a sure-fire way of telling the enemy exactly where you are.

I will update this guide as much as time allows

Credits A big thanks goes out to Humle for the use of his account on the training server, and for the use of his time as my targeting drone.

Another big thanks goes out to wehaul as my ammo resupply truck - an accumulated ammo total of approx 8000 AP shells has been used in the creation of this guide :)

German AntiTank Guns

Pak 36:

History The Pak 36 (Panzerabwehrkanone 36) was a German anti- gun that fired a 3.7 cm calibre shell. It was developed in 1936 by Rheinmetall and first appeared in combat that year during the Spanish Civil War.

It formed the basis for many other nations' anti-tank guns during the first years of World War II. The Kw. K. 36 L/45 was the same gun but was used as the main armament on several tanks, most notably the early models of the Panzer III. It was employed by Finnish troops during World War II, notably during the Defense of Suomussalmi. The Pak 36, being a small-calibre weapon, was outdated by the May 1940 Western Campaign, and crews found them all but useless against heavy allied tanks like the British Mk.II Matilda and the French Char B1 and Somua S35

Rexxor's View of the pak36 I might as well say it. I love the pak36, despite what CRS has done to it, it is still my favorite weapon in WWIIOL. It's low profile, fast push speed and great up-close penetration makes it lethal in Tier 0 + 1 - it does however struggle as soon as tier 2+ hits, since it simply does not have the penetration power needed to do the job at a distance.

It used to be great for long-range T0 tank sniping (, h-39, r-35, Vickers and A-13), but sometime 2-2½ years ago, CRS changed something that added a dispersion to the gun. This dispersion has made the Pak36 INEFFECTIVE above ranges of 500 meters. Therefore all penetration tests for the pak36 have been done at 500 meters. The dispersion at ranges of 500+ meters vary from 10 cm to 1 meter depending on the terrain you are on.

NEVER engage enemy armor frontally unless you have no choice - always try to get a flank shot.

Pak38

History The 5 cm PaK 38 (L/60) (5 cm Panzerabwehrkanone 38 (L/60)) was a German anti-tank gun of 50 mm calibre. It was developed in 1938 by Rheinmetall-Borsig AG as a successor to the 37 mm PaK 36, and was in turn followed by the 75 mm PaK 40.

The PaK 38 was first used by the German forces during the Second World War in April 1941. When the Germans faced Soviet tanks in 1941 during , the PaK 38 was one of the few early guns capable of effectively penetrating the 45 mm armor of the formidable T-34. Additionally, the gun was also equipped with Panzergranate 40 APCR shots featuring a tungsten core, in an attempt to penetrate the armor of the heavier KV-1 tank. Although it was replaced by more powerful weapons, it remained a potent and useful weapon and remained in service with the until the end of the war.

Rexxors view of the pak38 If you compare penetration and mobility in tier 1+, then the pak38 wins hands down. You can reliably kill Tier 1 and Tier 2 tanks up to ranges of 800-1000 meters, and score kills on Tier 3 equipment at a max range of 500 meters. All penetration tests for the pak38 were done at 1000 meters for tier 1+2 and at 500 meters for Tier 3.

It's a nice deploy and ambush weapon. The standing crew when moving makes it very ineffective as a tank hunter, since it is so damn easy to spot when moving. Best strategy is to find a good spot at a 90 degree angle on the route that approaching tanks are using, and pick off tanks when they least expect it. Getting an opel to drop of two or three pak38's, and having the pak38's work together as a wolf-pack seems to work very well.

NEVER engage enemy armor frontally unless you have no choice - always try to get a flank shot.

Pak40

History The 7.5 cm PaK 40 (7.5 cm Panzerabwehrkanone 40) was a German 7.5 centimetres (3 in) anti-tank gun developed in 1939-1941 by Rheinmetall.

Development of the PaK 40 began in 1939 with development contracts being placed with Krupp and Rheinmetall to develop a 7.5 cm anti-tank gun. Priority of the project was initially low, but Operation Barbarossa in 1941 and the appearance of heavily armoured Russian tanks like the KV-1, increased the priority. The first guns were delivered in November 1941. By 1943 PaK 40 formed the bulk of the German anti-tank artillery.

The PaK 40 was the standard German anti-tank gun until the end of the war, and was supplied by to its allies. Some captured pieces were used by the Red Army. After the end of the war the PaK 40 remained in service in several European armies, including Albania, , Czechoslovakia, , , and Romania.

Rexxors view of the pak40 I like this gun better than the 88. It has a low profile, nice push speed compared to its size and penetration figures that makes any ATG nuts mouth water.

It's too slow to be a tank hunter, but it performs admirably at interdicting tanks and also as a stand-off AB camper. Couple this gun with a opel for ammo and some infantry for cover and this weapon can devastate the allied spawnlists.

During the tests, I found that for Tier 1&2, you can blast enemy tanks at 1800 meters and score kills. For Tier 3 i found it to be most reliable at a max range of 1 km.

NEVER engage enemy armor frontally unless you have no choice - always try to get a flank shot.

Flak36 (88)

History The FlaK. 36 was actually developed during the interwar years by German engineers working in Sweden, who managed to produce probably the most famous and effective gun system in the war. It was originally designed as an AA gun, but Spanish experience showed its amazing utility against vehicles as well. Fortunately for Rommel, the eventual German leader of the Afrika Korps, the armor-piercing shells needed against tanks were already distributed to FlaK units for emergency use when in 1940 he was confronted by a breakout of the so-called „impenetrable‟ British Matilda II‟s at Arras – a scratch force of FlaK.36‟s defeated them at point-blank range. The 88 later came to be so feared that some British crews abandoned their tanks after even a near miss by an 88, knowing that the remarkable gun rarely missed a second time and that to be hit by an “88” usually meant very bad things. It remained a potent gun throughout WW2 – even at the end, the 88 could frontally penetrate any tank in the British or American armored tank inventory.

Rexxors view of the flak36 There is no way around it - this is the best ATG the German army has through all tiers (maybe rivaled by the pak40 in tier3). It can penetrate all allied equipment at ranges of 2000 meters in tier 0,1,2 and 3 (except Churchill tanks, they should not be engaged at ranges above 800 meters).

This weapon is best used with ample cover from both infantry and Bofors, since it is a bullet magnet - especially bullets coming from allied air.

NEVER engage enemy armor frontally unless you have no choice - always try to get a flank shot.
