91st Sturmbattalion Hotel Kompanie ATG guide Legend: Pak36 = Pak38 = Pak40&flak36 = Introduction This is a revival of my old ATG guide, I made back in 2004-2005. All kill spots on allied tanks have been updated to the latest 1.30. This guide is made for the purpose of scoring 1-shot kills. It pains me to see ATG's fire thoughtlessly at the enemy, completely ignoring the fact that firing "half-assed" and spending 10+ shots at each target, not ONLY is a waste of ammo, but also a sure-fire way of telling the enemy exactly where you are. I will update this guide as much as time allows Credits A big thanks goes out to Humle for the use of his account on the training server, and for the use of his time as my targeting drone. Another big thanks goes out to wehaul as my ammo resupply truck - an accumulated ammo total of approx 8000 AP shells has been used in the creation of this guide :) Page 2 of 25 Legend: Pak36 = Pak38 = German AntiTank Guns Pak 36: History The Pak 36 (Panzerabwehrkanone 36) was a German anti-tank gun that fired a 3.7 cm calibre shell. It was developed in 1936 by Rheinmetall and first appeared in combat that year during the Spanish Civil War. It formed the basis for many other nations' anti-tank guns during the first years of World War II. The Kw. K. 36 L/45 was the same gun but was used as the main armament on several tanks, most notably the early models of the Panzer III. It was employed by Finnish troops during World War II, notably during the Defense of Suomussalmi. The Pak 36, being a small-calibre weapon, was outdated by the May 1940 Western Campaign, and crews found them all but useless against heavy allied tanks like the British Mk.II Matilda and the French Char B1 and Somua S35 Rexxor's View of the pak36 I might as well say it. I love the pak36, despite what CRS has done to it, it is still my favorite weapon in WWIIOL. It's low profile, fast push speed and great up-close penetration makes it lethal in Tier 0 + 1 - it does however struggle as soon as tier 2+ hits, since it simply does not have the penetration power needed to do the job at a distance. It used to be great for long-range T0 tank sniping (panhards, h-39, r-35, Vickers and A-13), but sometime 2-2½ years ago, CRS changed something that added a dispersion to the gun. This dispersion has made the Pak36 INEFFECTIVE above ranges of 500 meters. Therefore all penetration tests for the pak36 have been done at 500 meters. The dispersion at ranges of 500+ meters vary from 10 cm to 1 meter depending on the terrain you are on. NEVER engage enemy armor frontally unless you have no choice - always try to get a flank shot. Page 5 of 25 Legend: Pak36 = Pak38 = Pak40&flak36 = Pak38 History The 5 cm PaK 38 (L/60) (5 cm Panzerabwehrkanone 38 (L/60)) was a German anti-tank gun of 50 mm calibre. It was developed in 1938 by Rheinmetall-Borsig AG as a successor to the 37 mm PaK 36, and was in turn followed by the 75 mm PaK 40. The PaK 38 was first used by the German forces during the Second World War in April 1941. When the Germans faced Soviet tanks in 1941 during Operation Barbarossa, the PaK 38 was one of the few early guns capable of effectively penetrating the 45 mm armor of the formidable T-34. Additionally, the gun was also equipped with Panzergranate 40 APCR shots featuring a tungsten core, in an attempt to penetrate the armor of the heavier KV-1 tank. Although it was replaced by more powerful weapons, it remained a potent and useful weapon and remained in service with the Wehrmacht until the end of the war. Rexxors view of the pak38 If you compare penetration and mobility in tier 1+, then the pak38 wins hands down. You can reliably kill Tier 1 and Tier 2 tanks up to ranges of 800-1000 meters, and score kills on Tier 3 equipment at a max range of 500 meters. All penetration tests for the pak38 were done at 1000 meters for tier 1+2 and at 500 meters for Tier 3. It's a nice deploy and ambush weapon. The standing crew when moving makes it very ineffective as a tank hunter, since it is so damn easy to spot when moving. Best strategy is to find a good spot at a 90 degree angle on the route
