    Stevens, Gary (Retired) (HOF 1997): Born: March 6, 1963. From: Caldwell, Idaho. Father was a horse trainer and had Gary grooming horses at age 8. Mother was a rodeo queen. His brother Scott is a jockey. Before he was 14, Gary was riding winners in Quarter Horse races at the bush tracks and fairs. Won his first race at a recognized track at age 16 at Les Bois Park in Boise, Idaho on a horse named Little Star, trained by his father. Soon he became the top jockey in Washington, winning riding titles at Longacres in 1983-84. He moved his tack to Southern California where after a rocky and homesick start, his career skyrocketed. He eventually won multiple riding titles at all of the Southern CA tracks. Stevens has racked up more than 5,000 wins including 3 Kentucky Derby, 3 Preakness Stakes, 3 Belmont Stakes and 10 Breeders’ Cups. His nine Triple Crown races: Kentucky Derbies: Winning Colors (1988), Thunder Gulch (1995), Silver Charm (1997). Preakness Stakes wins: Silver Charm (1997), Point Given (2001), Oxbow (2013). Belmont Stakes: Thunder Gulch (1994), Victory Gallop (1998), Point Given (2001). He was inducted into the Racing Hall of Fame in 1997 and won an Eclipse award for outstanding jockey in 1998. Ownership: Thoroughbred OwnerView Overview: The Thoroughbred community needs a central resource to encourage ownership of Thoroughbreds and provide accurate information on trainers, public racing syndicates, the process of purchasing and owning a Thoroughbred, racehorse retirement, and owner licensing. Status: The Jockey Club today launched Thoroughbred OwnerView (ownerview.com), a free website that serves as a comprehensive resource for both current and prospective Thoroughbred owners. It features a wide range of information regarding owner orientation, trainers, public racing syndicates, licensing and racehorse retirement, among other topics. “The sport needs to reduce the barriers to ownership,” said James L.
