The Joe O'Farrell Memorial Award is presented annually by the Ocala Breed- ers' Sales Company to the original consignor of the year's best Florida-bred racehorse offered at an OBS public auction. World Approval posted a stellar season that included five stakes wins at five different tracks, including three Grade 1s and a Grade 2. The 5-year-old turf specialist rolled to graded stakes wins in the Breeders' Cup Mile (G1) at Del Mar, Wood- bine Mile Stakes (G1), Fourstardave Handicap (G1) at Saratoga, Dixie Stakes (G2) at Pimlico and Turf Classic Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs. In winning the BC Mile, World Approval joined half- brother 's Approval in capturing the prestigious event. On the season, the Live Oak Stud-bred and Live Oak Plan- tation-raced World Approval earned $2,043,600. They were represented by Florida-bred blacktype stakes win- ners Starship Bonita and Surprise Wedding, who won a combined three stakes. Both Starship Bonita and Sur- prise Wedding are out of the Honour and Glory mare Happy Honeymoon. Starship Bonita, a 2-year-old filly by Gone Astray, won both the Susan's Girl Stakes and My Dear Girl Stakes of the FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes at Gulfstream Park. FTC is committed to strengthening both the industry and community through events raising funds for educational organizations in the community, groups that benefit area families, and organizations that benefit the equine industry. The FTC also provides scholarships and support to the Florida Thoroughbred Retirement Farm at the Marion/Lowell Correctional Institutions.

The farm provides character- building training for inmates and prepares horses for sec- ond careers or adoption. The farm is home to celebrities Carterista and millionaire Shake You Down, both multiple graded-stakes winners, and Hemingway’s Key, third-place finisher in the 2006 . The Florida farm opened in 2001 and is home to over 40 horses in- cluding 2001 Florida Horse of the Year Forbidden Apple. The Lowell Facility is the only women’s unit in the nation.
