The Visual Arts Blueprint A workforce development plan for the visual arts in the UK November 2009 Creative & Cultural Skills is the Sector Skills Council for Advertising, Craft, Cultural Heritage, Design, Performing Arts, Music, Visual Arts and Literature. There are 25 Sector Skills Councils in total, established in 2005 as independent employer- led UK-wide organisations governed by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills. Creative & Cultural Skills exists to bridge the gap between industry, education and the Government to give employers real influence over education and skills in the UK. Creative & Cultural Skills’ vision is to make the UK the world’s creative hub. 2013 ANNUAL REPORT FOOD IS HOPE. FOOD IS LOVE. FOOD IS MEDICINE. Few recent books relating to the state of American universities have drawn as much critical response as Allan Bloom's "The Clos ing of the American Mind." Despite Bloom's insistence that Story by Michael Szymanski his book is for students, many may Illustration by Mike Thompson feel slighted by his appraisal of them. In his book that has headed the New York I * i Times list of bestsellers for more than three months, Bloom warns that American univer sities are churning out a generation of non thinking cultural illiterates. Dloom, a respected J>6-year-old philosopher, charges that the cur rent move away from traditional liberal arts studies to vocational, tech nical and professional education is dimming the faculties of college stu dents. The book, a philosophical narrative that takes the reader on a con temporary cultural journey, uses great thinkers like Plato, Rousseau, Socrates and Nietzsche as guides. According to Bloom, the failure of higher education to require more liberal ai e failure of students to choose them is causing educational quality to spiral downwj Bloom calls the present state and trends < most urgent problem. -

Sculpture 381 Fall 2013 T/Th 1-4 Repeat, Perform, Record Billy Culiver E.A.T. 9 Evening in Art and Technology A Class Exploring the Intersection Between Theater, Dance and Visual Art The studio art course, Repeat, Perform, Record we will consider the dynamic of live bodies in physical spaces and read critical text and philosophical ideas about performance art. You will have 3 assignment: 1. Work Ethic-Duration/Record, 2. Work Ethic Labor and a collaborative work done with dancers, 3. Spaces Created by Action/Action Created by Spaces. Each assignment is directly aligned to a set of readings and visiting artists who will join the class. In this class, I attempt to honor the radical roots of Performance Art, with its history of expanding notions of how we make art, how we witness art, and what we understand the function of art to be. Performance art in the studio art context emerged from the visual and plastic arts rather than the traditional categories of dance and theater. From the beginning “Performance” was part of the modernist movements such as Futurism, Dada. With the emergence of Fluxus, Situationalism, Happenings, and Conceptualist practices the correspondence with the conscious use of space, time and process became central to Performance Art. With in the last decade, the concept of space, time and process have blended to expand Performance Art, making it a contemporary tool for expression with diverse directions of visual art, theater, dance, music and social practices. Contemporary live art now employs many different forms of experimentation diminishing the known or rehearsed dynamics of performance by opening it to improvisation and chance operations. -

The concept for this exploration came from genuine personal interest and sensitivity for multiple materials, techniques, and the dynamics and energy they create in relation to each other and their environment.
