Informal Meeting Adult Education Informal Meeting Adult Education Wednesday 13 th September until Friday 15th September 2017 in Bonn, Germany SOME PRACTICAL INFORMATION CONCERNING THE INFORMAL MEETING The meeting will be held from Wednesday 13th September until Friday 15th September at the following venue: Universitätsclub Bonn e.V. Konviktstr.9 53113 Bonn Tel.: +49 (0)228 - 72 96-0 Email: [email protected] http://www.uniclub-bonn.de/ The seminar will take place in Bonn. This region looks back on a long history. If you are interested in staying longer you will find several proposals on the English websites of the tourist information: http://www.bonn.de/tourism as well as http://www.bonn-region.de/ . The hotel rooms are booked at: Hotel Garni Jacobs Bergstraße 85-87 53129 Bonn Tel.: +49 (0)228 - 350635-0 Email: [email protected] http://www.hotel-jacobs-garni.de/ We have pre-booked 30 hotel rooms for the 2 nights of 13 th and 14 th of September. If you like to stay any additional nights before or after the meeting in the hotel, please reserve them directly with the hotel and pay them upon departure . Weather: Weather conditions in the middle of September can include anything from warm and sunny to rainy and cool, temperature ranges from approximately 12 to 20 degrees. How to get to the venue (Uniclub): By plane via the airports Cologne/ Bonn, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf. Cologne/ Bonn Airport is located closest to Bonn, Frankfurt has many connections, Dusseldorf can get a little more complicated because of changing the trains. 1. Cologne / Bonn Airport (CGN) (the most comfortable connection to the Uniclub, which takes approximately 40 minutes to arrive. There is only one bus stop at the airport for the SB60 to Bonn. The bus stop is located at Terminal 1.): Seite 1 von 5 • Express Bus SB60 to Bonn-Markt (the penultimate stop) This takes 27 minutes and the price for an adult one way is 10,90€ total oneway fare, consisting of 3,10€ (surcharge only for the express bus, ticket can be bought on the bus) plus 7,80€ for the VRS ticket (available at the ticket machines) that is valid for the journey Airport to Bonn. • from Bonn-Markt bus stop: • follow Stockenstraße south through the University building and turn left • follow the footpath left around the University building into Konviktstraße, turning right • the Uniclub is located opposite 2. Dusseldorf Airport: The bigger airport is Düsseldorf (DUS). Take the Sky Train to the airport train station. From the airport you can take several trains to Bonn central train station. There are some direct trains but also some with 1 or 2 connections. Tickets for the train can be bought at Düsseldorf Airport train station. The average costs for a ticket is 18 to 40 Euros, depending on the type of train. You can contact us for best connections as soon as you have your travel times, if you need help. Then proceed from the central train station: • from Bonn central train station you can take a nice walk for approx. 1 km along the “Hofgarten” (public transport will not save much time and walking distance) • follow Maximilianstraße, turn left into Regina-Pacis-Weg along the University building and the park “Hofgarten” • follow the footpath along the complete university building till the end and turn left • turn right into Konviktstraße, the Uniclub is located opposite Seite 2 von 5 3. Frankfurt Airport: From the biggest international airport you can take the fast train (ICE) to Siegburg/ Bonn (approximately 30 minutes) and from there take the U66 (underground train) to Universität/ Markt (26 minutes) with a 7 minutes’ walk to the Uniclub. Again, if you need help finding the best train connection please get in touch with us! • follow Regina-Pacis-Weg east along the University building and the park “Hofgarten” • follow the footpath along the complete University building till the end and turn left • turn right into Konviktstraße, the Uniclub is located opposite Seite 3 von 5 Arrival by Train from Luxembourg, Belgium and Netherlands: There are several train connections direct or via Cologne to Bonn central train station. From there please proceed • from Bonn central train station (basement) as described above. How to get to the Hotel Garni Jacobs: From Bonn Hauptbahnhof / central train station: (Walking distance 3 km – 37 minutes approx.) By tram No. 61 or 62 direction Dottendorf / Quirinusplatz (every 5 to 10 minutes): • the tram stops in front of the station building on the street • ride for 8 stops • get off at “Kessenich, Bergstraße” • turn right into Bergstraße and walk up to No. 85. By tram No. 61 or 62 direction Oberkassel Süd / Auerberg (every 5 to 10 minutes): • Take tram from “Kessenich, Bergstraße” for 7 stops • get off at “Poppelsdorfer Allee” • turn right take underground passage to the other side of the rain tracks • cross Kaiserplatz and Am Hofgarten • walk through Hofgarten-park along the university building • cross Stockenstraße and Adenauerallee • behind university building turn left into Konviktstraße, opposite is the Uniclub. The collaboration of the judicial system and lawyers with the Nazi regime has meanwhile been well documented in academic studies. Previously, however, it had been an open secret that many lawyers who were guilty of crimes returned to Heiko Maas West German government service after Federal Minister of Justice the foundation of the Federal Republic of and Consumer Protection Germany in 1949. The Independent Academic Commission set up to investigate how the Federal Ministry of Justice dealt with its Nazi past, the “Rosenburg Project”, undertook an intensive study of the continuity in terms of personnel and its consequences. Our Ministry allowed researchers full access to all the files for the first time. I would like to express my great thanks to the two Heads of Commission, Professor Manfred Görtemaker and Professor Christoph Safferling, and to their entire team for their committed work. The results are depressing. Of the 170 lawyers who held senior positions in the Ministry between 1949 and 1973, 90 had been members of the Nazi Party and 34 had been members of the SA. More than 15 percent had even worked in the Nazi Reich Ministry of Justice before 1945. These figures highlight why the prosecution of Nazi crimes was impeded for so long, the suffering of the victims was ignored far too long and many groups of victims – such as homosexuals or Sinti and Roma – suffered renewed discrimination in the Federal Republic of Germany.
