OPENING AND APOLOGIES The president (Sandra Menpes) opened and chaired the meeting. Apologies: Carrie Trembath Steve Mackie Craig Barnes Andrew Thomas 2. ORDINARY BUSINESS a) Previous Minutes Members were referred to the Minutes of the 31st Annual General Meeting held on the 13th April 2014 at the Mercure Grosvenor Hotel. Sandra Menpes moved that the minutes be accepted Simon Brealey voted acceptance, Terry Crabb seconded Vote: Accepted b) President’s Report The President presented her report via PowerPoint. The report included details on luncheons, courses, field trips, education, awards and social events held since the last AGM. The following list details the highlights of the year: The President started by thanking the committee that served for the 2014 period. The 2015 membership figures as of April 2015 included 165 active members. The President urged all non-financial members to renew their membership for 2015. 11 Technical Luncheon Meetings (3 joint with SPE) were held from April 2014 until March 2015 (inclusive) on a variety of topics which included: o Shale Plays (joint SPE) o Tidal Influence on Shorelines o Carbonate Faulting o Seismic and Marine Life o Fluvial Sedimentary Style vs Veg o Seismic Imaging o Australian Hydrocarbon Basins Inventory o Russian Black Gold o Shale Plays (joint SPE) o Successful Horizontal Wells (joint SPE) Overall attendance at meetings ranged from 35 to 90 with an average of 55. Marita Bradshaw (PESA DL) gave a 2 day short course on ‘Basin Analysis’ on the 16th and 17th October 2014. 18 people attended. KC Oren gave a 1 day workshop on ‘Exploring the trade-offs in drilling the perfect horizontal well’ on the 6th March 2015. 11 people were in attendance. The PESA SA-NT Field Trip on the 1st June 2015 led by Dr Nick Lemon (Santos) titled ‘McLaren Vale – Geology of Wine’. The President thanked the organisers, and particularly Alex Ross. The AAPG Student Chapter ran the annual field trip led by Bob Dalgarno to the Otway Basin. Entitled ‘Rifting, drifting, and lifting of a Continent: Geology of the Otway Basin and Limestone Coast.’ The trip was attended by 25 participants including students and industry representatives. The President thanked the industry participants for their giveaways. The joint PESA-SPE-ASEG booth at the ‘Science Alive!’ show, as part of national science week, was a huge success. The President thanked the industry sponsors for their giveaways, and the organisers, particularly Carrie Trembath (PESA) and James Griffiths (SPE). The following PESA SA prizes and bursaries were awarded in 2013, or for work during 2013: o Graduate Scholarships ($1,000 each) – Bonnie Lodwick, Sally Gregerson, Michael Dello-Iacovo and Jonathan Conti. o International Travel Bursary ($1,500 each) – Michael Gray (travel to Decatur Project, University of Illinois, USA) and Jonathan Conti (Myanmar AAPG conference). o Petroleum Excellence Prize ($1000) – Matthew Gard for the highest score in the energy component of the Minerals and Energy Resources III Course at University of Adelaide. o Sedimentology Excellence Prize ($1,000) – Yuexiao (Mandy) Shao for the highest score in the Sedimentary Geology II Course at University of Adelaide. o Geology Field Club - Brian Daily Prize ($500) – 1st Georgie Virgo, 2nd Jessica Greenstreet, and 3rd Lachlan Furness for a 2nd year field mapping course at the University of Adelaide. The President thanked the scholarship sub-committee of Craig Barnes, David Grybowski and Alex Ross for their work. A number of PESA SA Social Events were run during the year: o PESA hosted the Joint Industry Quiz Night (PESA-SPE-ASEG) at Burnside Town Hall in September 2014. Attended by around 70 members, and raised over $3,000 for the RFDS. The President thanked the social committee and in particular Tim Cotton for the planning of the night. o Annual Christmas Breakfast was held on 5th December 2014 at the Navy and Military Club. In total, 46 members attended this event, which was sponsored by Beach Energy. The President thanked the sponsors and particularly the organisers Carrie Trembath and Naz Saunders. o The annual HICCUP (Hydrocarbon Industry Cricket Cup) was run between January and February 2014 in the South Parklands. Simon Brealey stood up and gave the roundup of events. Extreme weather conditions again played their part, but the trophy was eventually won by the DSD, on run-rate from the Santos Engineers (only by 0.03 runs per over). The joint PESA and SPE Young Petroleum Professionals (YPP) met six times during the year with 4 technical presentations and 2 social events which were well attended. c) Financial Report & Budget PESA’s financial accounts run as a centralised federal system. As a consequence the detailed individual state account will not be presented at this meeting. The centralised accounts will be presented at the federal AGM to be held at the APPEA conference on the 17th May, 15:30 – 16:30 at the Hilton in Melbourne. The following table presents the rolled up accounts for the South Australia- Northern Territory branch from 1st January through to the 31st December 2014. There was a loss of $9,356.29 (up ~$1K from 2013) against a budgeted profit of $5,989.94. The short course profit target was missed substantially. These numbers include GST, where applicable. * Includes sponsorship of a ‘Science Alive!’ booth to promote the petroleum industry, costs of which were shared with ASEG # A record sponsorship and playing year for the PESA-SPE Golf Day produced A RECORD DONATION OF $33,000 FOR THE RFDS + new PESA & SPE Scholarships Changes to the 2015 Budget: A stripped down 2015 PESA SA-NT budget aims for a loss of ~$16,155.00 that incorporates a significant cut to the usual scholarship and sponsorship commitments. The PESA-SPE Golf Day in 2015 was smaller than in the previous two years (~120 players) but it is anticipated that the final donation amount to the Royal Flying Doctors Service will be ~$15,000. The final number will be known once outstanding sponsorship and auction commitments are settled. Expect news around mid-2015. d) Acceptance of Reports Sandra Menpes moved that the Presidents Report and the Financial Report be accepted. John Kaldi voted acceptance. Stuart Jones seconded. Vote: Accepted. e) Election of Office Bearers and Committee The President thanked the outgoing committee members for their work: Alan Carey, Ros King, Scott Mildren, Tim Cotton, David Grybowski, Adam Bailey, and Matthew Pfahl. Tim Cotton voted acceptance. Brenton Frears seconded. Vote: Accepted. 3. OTHER BUSINESS The President thanked the PESA SA sponsors, members, committee, and all others in making the year successful. 4. ANY OTHER BUSINESS Simon Brealey moved a vote of thanks to Sandra Menpes for her work as President. Sandra Menpes declared the Annual General Meeting closed at 12:45pm 5. NEXT MEETING The next AGM will be held on a date to be advised in early 2016 .
